I bought this to replace a defunct HL-5140. My sense is that the 5140 was somewhat more solidly made, so time will tell on this one. The setup would have been easy, were it not that my parallel port card chose to die just as I was installing the new printer, and it took me a while to figure out that the fault was with the card, and not the printer. Card replaced -- now everything works fine. Auto duplex is a charm. Only envelope printing remains a problem, though no worse (so far) than the 5140; you are supposed to open the back, lower a couple of levers. Difficult if printer (as is mine) is set up against a wall. Choices are thus either to put up with slightly wrinkled envelopes; or to print envelopes on a photo printer which sits near it. Not much of a problem for the occasional letter; but if I were doing a vast mailing, it would be a major annoyance.
Brother service seems to be exceptional at least in one respect -- that you can get through a human being without a terrible long wait. Three cheers for that!

I am seriously thinking of returning this printer. Most reviews touted its "excellent" or "very" good print quality, one of the most important features of a printer for me, because my work and personal documents must look fine. A very few owners of the printer remarked on pale printout, but I hoped that was just the result of a few lemons. If so, I have one. In addition, for some reason BR-Script (Brother's PostScript emulator) does not allow duplex printing, one of the selling points of the printer. I don't care immensely about that, but if Brother knows that there are limitations to using duplex, that should be included in the description and specs of the printer.
I don't know whether I shall try another 5370 or just return this one and get a refund. There was a similar problem with the other Brother printer I tried, the HL-2270DW. I thought that by buying a more expensive Brother printer, and one that had a PostScript emulator (more than one, actually) and better resolution that I'd get dark print. Sorry to say I didn't.
Last, Mac users don't get all the bells and whistles on this printer, and customer support for Macs is spotty in terms of what the tech rep knows and can do. I worked with one person to try to fix the print problem and all he could suggest was getting another toner. The printer has been here for only a week, and the toner must be brand-new. He suggested sending the printer back to Brother, saying that they would examine it. Unless I was sure that the problem was in this one printer, I wouldn't want to have them send me another one, and their rules on returns are very stringent – only a few days. (He also said I should get B&H to open a new toner cartridge for me – at my expense or B&H's – to see whether the problem was in the cartridge. No way!) On the other hand, HP's tech support for Macs is no better.
One more thing (on the positive side): Some people said that these printers make the lights flicker. I put the printer onto a different socket from other electrical and electronic devices and had no problem with lights flickering, or circuit breakers cutting in.
I wish I could say more good things about the printer. I have nothing but praise for B&H. They have been informative and helpful in the past, and I expect they will be that way now and in the future.
I have not received any compensation for this review.

The printer was easy to set up and works well. A minor quibble: the user guide on the driver disc is annoying to access and use. The easy solution is to download the guide from the Brother website as a pdf.

I buy a lot of this brand of printer. Well worth the money. Always good, reliable, and decent TCO. This unit setup in a network was not as simple as previous models but finally got it.

This has been a great printer for me so far. Quite, prints great, uses little toner, etc. The only complaint is the great difficulty in setting up the wireless print capability with Mac OS 10.7 (Lion). The disk provided did not provide support, nor work with Lion- period...at all! The user/setup manual did not include instruction for wireless setup under OS 10.7 either. I had to dig through the Brother website to find an obscure FAQ section that provides instructions for setting up the printer "without a cable connected." After I figured that out, it works seamlessly. The webpage link is: http://www.brother-usa.com/faqs/static/ale_17466.pdf If the link doesn't work, go to their FAQ section for the printer model and type in a search for: "without a cable." Or clink the link for their top 20 FAQ's- it should be there also. Hopefully this will save people some major time in finding the information for OS 10.7.

This product is mainly used by my wife for her business, I used it occasionally and at tax time. We've only had this for a couple of weeks, but it was very easy to set up and get on the net. I have it plugged into the router, rather than WI-FI, and all of the computers have been able to print (after installing the driver). My wife's CD drive is broken, but the drivers were on the Brother site and easily found and installed.

I homeschool and have many b/w printables, the first day I got it I printed a 450 page duplex doc and it ran like a champ. Still does after a month of use. Very fast, no jams, easy to use. The only drawbacks are that I have an older router (3yrs) and couldn't set up the wireless without a USB cable which is not included. Also, the heaviest paper weight it does is standard 20#, which is to be expected for this price. Still great value.

Comments about Brother HL-5370DW Laser Printer with Wireless Networking & Duplex:
The Brother HL-5370DW Laser Printer replaces my Apple LaserWriter Select 360, which--after 18 years of reliable service--finally failed.
My home office is off the power grid, and this printer does fine on inverter-supplied power (from wind, solar, and a 12-volt-battery system) or generator supplied power.
As far as connecting the Brother HL-5370DW to my MacBook Pro: I simply unplugged the Apple LaserWriter Select 360 from its parallel-to USB-connection and plugged in the parallel connection to the parallel port on the Brother HL-5370DW. To my surprise, my computer recognized the new printer and I was able to print.
But my goal was to use the wireless connection via Apple AirPort Extreme and an Apple Time Capsule Wi-Fi Hard Drive. The WiFi setup was accomplished with the wire connection in place, which is/was the directions recommended approach, and then the wire connection was removed. WiFi printing has worked fine.
The directions that came with the printer to make the wireless connection were not that clear nor were they easy to follow. But once I realized that the directions were using fancy language to have me simply enter the password to the Time Capsule, I had instant success.
I use the HL-5370DW in my business and needed a monochrome printer for printing invoices and letters as well as printing on different heavy paper stocks, envelopes, checks, note cards, and various size labels. So far, this little laser printer has handled it all and has done it flawlessly.
When looking for a printer, what caught my eye with the HL-5370DW was the ability to "straight-through paper path" printing. This is just this ticket for what I needed. It works perfectly on heavy-weight paper stock and various size envelopes and labels.
However, please take note!!!
To successfully print envelopes, you must FIRST follow the steps to correctly set up the printer to handle envelopes. Otherwise, the envelopes will end up wrinkled, look awful, and you'll (unfairly) blame the printer.
But once I figured out how to CORRECTLY print envelopes, this little printer has rewarded me with perfectly printed envelopes every time.
Here's what to do:
1) Open the printer's back door.
2) On each side, push down each blue lever--down toward the envelope icon--until they lock into place (although they feel like they will break off, they do lock into place once you push them down far enough).
3) In the print dialog box, change the setting to "Envelope."
4) To make sure the toner does not rub off the envelope, I also select "Improve Toner Fixing."
The Brother HL-5370DW Laser Printer puts out outstanding print quality. And I am very pleased over its ability to successfully print on whatever I send its way.
However, construction wise--compared to the tank-like build of the Apple LaserWriter Select 360--the Brother HL-5370DW seems pretty fragile. So, I'll just have to be very careful with this latest generation of laser printer.
But that's okay. Given its two-side printing ability, faster output, and excellent print quality--on a wide range of items--the Brother HL-5370DW still offers lots of "bang for the buck."

Ater an expensive and then an inexpensive jet ink printer of other brands, that had much too short lives, I tried this Brother laser printer. At age 68, I am computer "challanged" with the usual life karma of "if it can go wrong, it will go wrong". Thus far, with the Brother HL-5370DW laser printer I am far ahead of my game. Set up was a breeze and I am totally satisfied with its performance.

Comments about Brother HL-5370DW Laser Printer with Wireless Networking & Duplex:
Printer is used at home. I bought the printer for the cheap cost per sheet expense. The wireless feature took a few attempts to setup. This was my first wireless component setup so I wasn't sure which method of setup I was supposed to use. Once setup, the printer connected wirelessly and holds its connection. The printer driver software is feature rich.
The printer is on the same circuit as my computer. When it turns on and prints it creates a VERY LARGE power drain which causes my APC backup to kick in and momentarily go into battery backup mode. My computer and LED monitor is the only other items on this circuit. I would recommend trying to put it on a different circuit than the computer if possible to avoid this problem.

I've only used it for a week or so,and so far I am very satisfied. I was looking for an under $200 high resolution monochromatic laser printer with wifi option. This machine fits the bill perfectly. The wireless setup is a pain. I had to go online and figure out how other people had done it, because the instructions on the cd-rom where useless. Once it's setup it works great! I don't know about toner consumption. I've read it is not the cheapest on a per page basis, but since I am not a high volume printer, that is fine by me. Durability is still something to see as time goes by. For the difficult setup and not knowing how the machine holds up with time, I am going to give it 4 stars.

I wanted and got a replacement for a smaller and much older Brother printer. It spits out those black and white pages quickly -- fits the bill very well.
Unfortunately for me, I could not get the wireless to work (hired someone ultimately and he couldn't either but maybe it was us) so have it connected. Again, may not be the fault of the printer but there you are.

Only time will prove the true measure of value. Installing was easy and the few printouts to date have been excellent. I set up this printer on a network (using a Cat5 cable) and it has worked very nicely in our small office. We have four people that use the printer and I like that fact that the printer can be set in a central location. We don't have very high print needs, so it is not a hassle for us to walk from our desk to the printer and back. I have not tried to use it on the network without the cable. It was easy to set up the printer on each of the computers (some XP and some Windows 7). So far I am very pleased. Great printer at a great price.

I just needed a cost-effective monochromatic printer for our home network, and this model fits the bill. The instructions were straightforward, and I was able to get the printer up and running quickly and easily. My biggest concern is that the paper tray seems flimsy. With careful handling, though, this printer should serve us well.
