This is the real McCoy. If you're after a battery grip that is of the same high build quality as your Pentax K-7, then this is your only choice. Conversely, if all you need is the convenience and functionality that a battery grip provides, then you can save a bundle by buying a 3rd party clone grip. This OEM Pentax grip is, frankly, overpriced for what it is; on the other hand, none of the plastic alternatives presently on the market are as good, so, there's the rub...
The only negative for me with the D-BG4 (other than its high price point) is the lack of an internal slot to store my little Pentax remote. I upgraded to the K-7 from a K-10D. I really liked that I could stash both an extra SD card AND my remote inside the K-10D's grip. The smaller size of the K-7 - and thus, of the D-BG4 grip - is probably why Pentax designers couldn't make room for any remote control storage slot. Too bad: the remote is easy to misplace; having it at hand in the battery grip was a great convenience that I'll miss.
Otherwise, if the price isn't an issue for you, buy this grip. You won't be disappointed.

Cons It only holds one battery. You can put a battery in the camera also but then to charge that battery you have to take the grip off the camera to get to it.

Comments about D-BG4 Battery Grip for Pentax K-7 & K-5:
The battery grip, D-BG4 by Pentax is very much superior to any of the after market knock offs. What it has that the others don't is: weather sealing, easy to use, good feeling controls and seamless compatability with the K-7 or K-5. Highly recommended

I should not have waited this long to get a battery grip. It has re-balanced the weight of the camera and since most of my shooting is vertical the addition of shutter release and some other camera function on the top of the grip is brilliant!!
Highly recommend this battery grip to anyone who is on the fence about needing such at item- You will not be able to live without it!

Comments about D-BG4 Battery Grip for Pentax K-7 & K-5:
I bought this grip for two reasons. First, extra battery. I have several SDM/HSM lenses, and they are all battery hogs. Without extra batteries, you have to think twice about carefree shooting. Especially if shooting videos. But for that, packing extra batteries should be enough. Yes, if you do not mind changing batteries every so often. The grip allows you to shoot videos for a longer time without changing batteries. I do not shoot videos that much.
There is a second, and more important reason why the grip is always on my K5. It balances K5 for shooting with bigger lenses, and gives convenient shooting buttons for vertical compositions. I love having shooting buttons for such shots. The grip takes either the D-LI90 battery or 6 AA batteries. I have to keep some AA eneloops in my bag for the flash anyway, it is good that I can use them in the grip as well.
Price has to be biggest gripe about this grip. Pentax prices cameras right, but that philosophy somehow does not extend to accessories. Yes, we know other manufacturers do the same. But Pentax is supposed to be different, or is that just another urban myth?
I also think that the grip could be slightly slimmer, and do all that just fine. Just a wee bit slimmer will allow us to use so many more camera bags, especially the smaller, narrower bags.
I also bought the Arca-swiss mount for the grip. It is a Mestos PD-K5H.

The battery grip greatly enhances the overall utility of my K5 esppecially when wearing gloves. Portrait adjustments are a lot simpler with the second set of dials. Does not look like an ad on. I like the additional AAA battery clip in case you have 2 dead batteries and no charging nearby.

I do a lot of long days in the field shooting air shows and natural history. The extended battery life has been great and also the easy with which I can use the camera in the vertical with the controls on the grip. The extra bulk on the camera also gives much better balance when I am using my long lenses.

I have a K-5 , and am planning several camera trips, including one to Africa. This battery grip seemed to offer a perfect blend of form and function: extra battery power - and even a AA power option, plus better camera handling & balance. It delivers! Now I have extended power for ventures into the wild. On top of it, I really like the camera handling ease and convenience - all with great weather seals as well.

It fits the K5 body like a glove, and the camera becomes much more "holdable" for me. Highly recommend it.

I shoot a lot of sports where a portrait oriented frame is needed. Having a battery grip like this makes it so much easier. Also with a second battery in the grip I get a much longer period before having to recharge batteries. I am not using the tray for AA batteries, but it is nice to have it if necessary.

Comments about D-BG4 Battery Grip for Pentax K-7 & K-5:
I purchased this grip as I was heading away for the weekend and required additional battery support. I filled 2 32gig cards with more than 1000 RAW images and I am still showing battery as full. The additional shutter release and control dials are great, I would happily recommend this product as it turns what I would consider an already pro body into a truly PRO kit.
AWESOME - this camera + grip is a weapon.

I have tried 3rd Party "cheaper" grips. They work...for a minute that is! The Pentax brand has lasted...making it worth the extra money. I'm a handicapped photog and using this grip accessory gives me more camera to hold on to, especially for the vertical shots.

Comments about D-BG4 Battery Grip for Pentax K-7 & K-5:
This grip is excellent for use wherever extended battery life is needed, such as weddings. It also helps balance the relatively lightweight K-5/K-7 bodies when used with heavy DA* lenses such as the 50-135 and 16-50 f2.8. The controls are well laid out and precisely mimic those on the body itself, so it is very comfortable to use in portrait mode. The weather sealing is also a nice bonus and the storage compartments for the rubber plugs are well-designed and secure.
The one con I have noticed is that one needs to be very careful to not overtighten the screw when attaching the grip as doing so can make it very difficult to remove. However, I have found it takes very little torque to adequately secure the grip to the body, so that is no longer an issue.
Overall this is an excellent product and one that looks right at home on the K-5 and K-7.

Comments about D-BG4 Battery Grip for Pentax K-7 & K-5:
Much better quality item than after market grip, weather sealed unlike after market and better response from buttons and dials. Much longer power supply by using two batteries. Battery selection is selectable once the grip is installed, grip first, auto, body first etc. Handy storage for 2nd SD Card. Much more comfortable vertical (and horizontal) hold, especially for those with medium to large hands. AA tray handy but I wouldn't ever use myself. Holds tight to Body of camera and includes a tripod mount. Camera is much better weighted with grip installed. Only cons would be the camera does not access the SD card from the grip, merely a storage slot (not really a problem) Doesn't hold remote like K20D grip, but heh? Highly recommended. Great price from B&H of course. Don't bother shopping around!
