The 12big Rack Fibre StorView Snapshot License from LaCie is an additional license for the StorView Snapshot data recovery software that ships with the 12big Rack Fibre array system. The software allows you to restore a logical drive to a certain point in time.
When used in Windows-based systems, it is recommended that you use the VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) to create and manage snapshots. Although you use VSS to take snapshots, StorView will still be used to create arrays, logical drives, and ODAs, and to perform Snapback operations. Mac OS and Unix systems will use the StorView snapshot functionality to create snapshots. This includes creating arrays, logical drives, and ODAs, and enabling and managing the Snapshot software to perform Snapback operations. To prevent slowing the entire SAN when using Snapshot, the volume on which one takes a snapshot of a logical drive must provide equal or greater read/write speed than the actual logical drive.
