This lens was given to me as a Christmas gift from my father who's knowledge of photo equipment is limited so I was skeptical at first but the Bower 8mm f3.5 has proved to be quite an impressive little lens. The build quality is excellent for a lens in this price range (all hard plastic with a metal bayonet). The focus ring action is extremely smooth. At first I had trouble getting what I want in focus with such a wide angle of view but with a little practice I am getting beautiful photos and some truly unique video footage. When using the built in flash on my canon T2i I get a big round shadow at the bottom of my shots from the built in lens hood but I think that this problem could be solved with the use of a speedlight. I would definitely recommend this lens to a friend.

I was a long time user of the sigma 15mm for full frame (film) cameras. After making the transition to digital, I opted for the Opteka fisheye (exactly the same as Bower and Vivitar). My expectations were very high for this lens and it fell a bit short. Images are unacceptably soft at 3.5 (wide open) and still a bit soft at 5.6. f/11 looks pretty good, but that's getting awefully slow for me. Also the sigma 15mm has extremely tight depth of field for blurred background type shots. The opteka seems incapable of pulling off the "macro fisheye" shot that the sigma did so well. To be fair, I have not yet tried the sigma 10mm fisheye for digital EOS, so this review is not apples-apples.
Other notes: manual focus and apperature control (fine by me). Would be nice to communicate back the aperature to the camera for display in the viewfinder and also to record the shot settings.
Conclusion: good quality for the price, nice for landscape, not the best choice for artistic photographers.

Comments about Bower SLY 835C 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens For Canon APS-C EOS Cameras:
I bought this lens during a trip to NYC at the gigantic B&H store. It's fast, sharp and fun. This is slightly cheaper than the identical 8mm lens that Samson manufactures for Vivitar and Rokinon. It looks and performs EXACTLY the same as the others. The store clerk pounded this fact into my head in a kind effort to help me to not overspend. (I was originally aiming for the Rokinon.) Anyway, I have so much fun with this lens. I love getting full body shots of people, cool ceiling shots indoors, warped close-ups, whatever strikes my fancy. I don't know what else to say. Get one.

Comments about Bower SLY 835C 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens For Canon APS-C EOS Cameras:
I based my purchase of this lens on Ken Rockwell's review. My experience has matched his review quite well so far: it's a pretty impressive lens for the price.
It has manual aperture and focus. Focus is a non-issue (due to the ridiculous focal length). If you ever set your camera on "M", you won't find the aperture ring a problem, either; although this does mean that the image metadata doesn't automatically record your aperture settings for you. But these are pretty minor inconveniences. I'm not a very sophisticated photographer, so take my review with a grain of salt, but I really like the images I'm getting out of this lens.

Comments about Bower SLY 835C 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens For Canon APS-C EOS Cameras:
This lens is very sharp and delivers excellent results, with dramatic fish-eye views.
On a full-frame DSLR body the image is approximately rectangular, covering the central portion of the frame, with irregular edges. On a smaller sensor camera (1.6x crop factor), the image covers the entire sensor without those irregular edges.
Focusing and f-stop are fully manual, and no information is communicated to the camera.
Distance markings are correctly calibrated (checked using "Live View"). In practice, using hyperfocal distance, this lens doesn't require focusing: at f/8, everything from about 1ft to infinity should be in focus.
This lens is extremely sharp. Flare is well controlled. It feels well made, with smooth focusing and solid half f-stop clicks (except that there is no click between f/3.5 and f/5.6). Its bulging front element needs to be protected from damage. A metal lens mount is attached to the plastic lens body with three screws, adequate but not very strong.
An excellent lens.

Amazing delivery time...lightning fast. Seriously. I mean, when was the last time anything was delivered to YOU in less than 24 hours...for FREE? Perfect for a last minute birthday gift that arrived before our joint bank account was even charged! Surprise! Thanks to B&H for making me look like the perfect spouse! Oh and my product was found at B&H for less than anywhere on the net.

Comments about Bower SLY 835C 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens For Canon APS-C EOS Cameras:
I always wanted a wide angle lens for landscape photography, but for now, I can't afford one. I'm not a big fan of fisheye, especially the ones with a lot of distortion, but this one is really neat on a APS-C sensor. It can almost replace a wide angle lens in some situation, like for some landscape. I have a friend who have one and he's doing awesome thing with it. That's mostly after seeing his shots that I've decided to buy one too.
Also, the construction is strong, all metal with a really smooth focus ring. It feels solid and very high quality.
The only negative side, and I already knew about it before bying, is that there is no electronics in that lens, meaning that you have to go in full manual mode. Also, The plastic caps feels really cheap, but it's not very important. It change nothing to the quality of the lens, do that's not really a con.
I really enjoy it.

I shoot video with this lens. Great for the scenes requiring "fisheye" effects.
Of course some abberation in the corners, but for this price, you have to expect that. Overall I'm really satisfied by this lens !

The bang for the bucks of this lenses are pretty good for the uses I currently do with it (climbing shots). For the price the image quality is pretty good and the distorsion is not too bad. The only big downside is that the apperture and focus are manual, but the DOF on the lens is less than 6ft, so I pretty much never had to play with the focus and if you are used to pose in manual mode, you still can get the info on the light exposure on the camera itself.

Good fisheye but I underestimated how wide this thing is. You have to be about 2 inches away from an object to fill the frame which is an issue since the minimum focusing distance is 1 foot. Overall happy with the purchase.

this is a great lens for the price. it is build very strong and i love having a manual aperture ring on the lens. my only complaints are that the lens doesn't seem to have a coating on it, as dust sticks to the lens like magnets. it won't just blow off with a blower, i'm constantly cleaning the lens. other than that it is sharp and has great colors and is worth the price.

I use it for landscapes, sports, architecture, family photos and fun photos in general.
Probably the best thing about it is that it´s cheap and delivers a great quality.
It´s strong and durable and fast enough for a fishe eye lens.
I found it excellent for landscape photography. I just shot a timelapse of a beach with it... Amazing.
I just love it.
Manual focus and manual stops? That doesn´t bother a bit.

I've got this lens to use on my canon T3i, that I just got. Since I shoot skateboard, didn't wanna pay extra cash for a canon lens. But make no mistake, the bower 8mm is a great lens, the price is just right. the only down side is the aperture f/3.5 and being manual, but still a great product.
