I use this 2TB LaCie External Hard Drive to back up data from my desktop automatically every day. In fact I use an array of LaCie HDs to keep daily redundant backups.
The LaCie is quiet, fast, and the bonus of LaCie USB Boost Software makes it even faster! Not only is the LaCie a great hard drive, its sleek, shiny black exterior make it a very attractive unit and it stacks beautifully.
I now have four LaCie External Hard Drives and they are not only functional, but pleasing to see! I have been using LaCie external hard drives for years without any failures, and there is nothing about them I don't like.
If you need an external hard drive, LaCie is a perfect choice.

... but that was the only good thing one could say about this product. Plugged it into the Mac, formatted it (HFS+), started a backup. Failed with disk errors. Formatted it again. Succeeded creating a backup. Subsequent backup failed with disk errors. Disk repair failed with fatal disk errors. Formatted it again. Failed with disk errors.
Meanwhile, the thing sounded like an aircraft taking off & wouldn't put its disk to sleep. Defective by design. Sent it back for a refund.

I'm using this drive as a time machine backup drive for my iMac. Its design is simple yet elegant and unlike other external drives I have it doesn't look cluttered. Very quite drive.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk:
Hard times seem to be inconsistent. I started with Lacie, switched to Western Digital until they failed and am now back with Lacie. I have 7 2TB Lacie drives (this USB only version and the Firewire version) and have never had a problem with any.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk:
I am very happy with this drive (as a mac user since '88). I am experienced enough that I let the drive run for two days, and copied large files back and forth, before I partitioned it into 2x 1TB volumes. Am using one volume as a time machine backup.
Style and ease of use of the drive are great, packaging was fine. FYI I also have two other WD drives used as full backups in rotation... NEVER rely on only one drive for the safety of your data.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk:
The drive was very easy to connect to my iMac and the Intego Backup Assistant software was also easy to install and configure. I have tested the restore feature and that also worked very well. I would recommend this to anyone that has need for quick and easy backups and restores. A great product!

I use this for backup and big, extra files that I dont want in my laptop. I use this on my mac and is working perfectly so far. I only have 1 month with it so I will have to wait and see if it still performs well after a year or so because this things usually start to deteriorate after some time, but so far, so good.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk:
This is my second pair of LaCie Poulson black box drives. I have 7 LaCies in all, including D2s and a Porsche design model. None of my LaCie drives, dating back to 2002, have failed. All are still running though I have since retired my older drives to secondary scratch drives. I use my LaCie drives for backups, archives and scratch drives. My only complaint about this model is that there is no power on/off switch on the front. This is an annoying flaw, and you've got to fork out the bucks for the more expensive D series to get this functionality. This aside, these drives continue to set the benchmark in consumer reliability and design without going pro.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk:
I've used Lacie hard drives for years. Most reliable drives, so naturally I ordered one for my Time Machine backup on my iMac. I went with this model because of the price/size. It's great for archiving and backing up everything, and I know it'll last because of the Lacie quality!

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk:
Somehow, the picture makes the drive appear as if it is quite large, but it's not that much bigger than a typical external drive. 2TB for a little over $100 is quite a bargain, albeit its only interface is USB 2.0. Since I'm using this drive as a network drive via AirPort Extreme for backup only, USB is adequate for my purpose. Too bad that it is hidden in the "server room", which is the downstair closet, because it's understated design is actually quite beautiful. As for the drive inside, it does seem to get warm when I copied 100GB worth of data via the backup software, but since I'm not constantly reading and writing to it, I'm not too concerned with the heat issue.
The drive came with some sort of proprietary backup software, but I didn't care for it and reformatted the entire drive.
