Don't listen too much to Dummies that write reviews without understanding how a camera works. I see a lot of people downgrading the reviews of this camera on things like poor in low light, no video, and poor zoom…. The camera is as it states "Entry Level" AND A VERY GOOD ONE AT THAT…. I don't have any problems using it in low light because I don't use cheap lenses, and if I did, I know how to use the camera well enough to correct low light issues as much as possible. Lenses that are 3.5 5.6 are generally the cheap ones although some are very good. On this camera I use the Nikon 18-70mm 3.5 4.5, the 10.5mm 2.8, my favorite the 105mm 2.8 and finally the 200mm f4. In low light the kit lens that comes with the camera may have some issues, but then again it is the lens not the camera; and I personally think this kit lens is outstanding. No video? Who cares? Did the camera state that it took videos? NO! You want video? Go buy a video camera !!!!! I unfortunately have video on my Canon 5d, and it's horrible….. But I don't care because I don't use it. I didn't buy the camera for this. I bought the camera to take pictures not video. Poor Zoom? Again, the lens the camera came with is 18-55mm. You want more zoom? Buy another lens with zoom. I have been using this camera for over 4 months, practically none stop. The camera is awesome. I bought it due to the size of the camera. I wanted a small sized DSLR that can take awesome pics and this one has far exceeded all my expectations.

quirks. This is my second Nikon D3000 18-55mm VR Lens package(one from B&H and one from another vendor)in the last two months with the same quirk. When I manually switch lenses (in the proper manner according to the user manual)with either various Nikon lenses (that are compatible for this model)or with my Lensbaby Composer Lens (that is compatible w/ this camera), the camera body does not recognize the lenses. The body doesn't automatically (or manually)focus in on any objects when taking a picture. After switching the lenses back and forth, sometimes the camera body (at random) will register the lens and focus on an object.[...])The good Stuff:This is a great camera (when it works) To take hiking (Not too heavy) Takes great 10 Mega pixel quality photos Has all the features a beginner to advanced users would need Very user friendly The Organizer/Editing software that comes with it, was a great bonus Camera body and lens are very durable

For a beginner, it has been easy to use the Auto function, and gradually get used to and learn the more complex functions. The manual is very clear regarding operation. Other users have been very helpful, as well. This was an EXCELLENT value with the lens package!!!

This is pretty good for those looking to get a "start" into actual photography (a step just above casual, whenever/special events photography...perhaps onto the hobby level). The images are crisp and clean.
The negative is that the camera is really sensitive to damage. Accident insurance is almost a must unless you're super careful.

Originally got this as a beginner DSLR to take portraits.
Love the auto settings. This camera is great for macro and scenery also. I will use this camera for many different types of photography after seeing how easy it is to use.
Only down side is there is no live view but I can immediately see the photo after I take it so not a big deal!

As a beginner photographer, I love this camera! I think the controls and menu systems are easy to navigate and the battery lasts forever. I honestly cannot think of anything bad about it, maybe that's due to my lack of experience, but I definitely would recommend this to a friend!

I absolutely love the camera I bought from B&H Photo and Video. I use it to take pictures of me and my friends and of my family. I can say nothing bad about this camera. I am very satisfied with the service and how quickly my camera came after I ordered it.

Comments about Nikon D3000 SLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens:
I purchased Nikon D 3000 to repalce a Nikon DX 40 which I dropped a couple of times and messed up. I also have a smaller camera that fits in a pocket. I missed the extra sharp pictures that Nikon SLR cameras take with little effort. I like the variety of settings depending on the conditions the picture is taken at . ie close up, moving, night etc.

Comments about Nikon D3000 SLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens:
Was planning on using it to shoot a wedding and reordered with a 55-200 lense for close ups. I liked the monitor views for shutter speed and lighting. The monitor was not great for reviewing pictures.
The manual and reference disk does not have an index which made it hard to quickly look up camera functions. The guide mode for set up, view, and shooting was not as easy as one would think. Setting the viewfinder focus was ridiculous since there were several warnings to be careful not to poke yourself in the eye while setting this focus. I ended up returning the product for a different camera - not a nikon - since I had used the other produt before and the settings were similar. Also ordered one 18-135 lense so I didn't have to change lenses.

The day this camera arrived, I was really really excited! I came home looking for it, opened as fast as I could to then realize that it didn't came with a memory card! I know people that buy cameras knew this but I bet first time buyers like me will probably skip that line in the review section (I didn't see it at all) but anyways... after I got the memory card I started shooting! Very easy to use!

DX-Nikkor lenses are engineered and optimized for use on Nikon DX-format D-SLRs and are designed to cover the smaller image area of the DX sensor. When a DX lens is mounted on an FX-format Nikon D-SLR, the camera's DX-Crop Mode is automatically engaged, introducing a 1.5x magnification (cropping) factor.
