The Nikon CoolPix S70 is a compact, narrow-profile point-and-shoot digicam that along with its pocket-friendly design features a 12.1 megapixel CCD sensor and a bright, 3.5" OLED Touch Panel screen that allows you to adjust the exposure and tonal values, as well as focus the lens and fire the shutter by merely tapping on the camera's screen.
The S70's 5-way Vibration Reduction (VR) system compensates for up to 4-stops of camera shake when shooting at longer shutter speeds. The S70's VR system also increases the camera's shutter speed and adjusts the sensor's ISO sensitivity levels as needed under low-light conditions (up to ISO 6400). For trickier shooting scenarios, the camera's Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically captures up to 10 rapid exposures and selects and saves the best of the lot.
Aside from terrific still images, the CoolPix S70 can also capture 720p video clips @ 30fps with sound, which can be played back on your computer or TV for all to enjoy.
In the creative department, the S70 features an Auto Scene Selector, which can automatically detect up to 16 picture scenes and set the camera accordingly. And for shooting portraits, the CoolPix S70 features a 3-level skin softening mode, in-camera red-eye reduction, Face-priority AF for up to 12 faces, as well as Smile Shutter and Blink Warning functions to ensure everybody is smiling and wide-eyed in every picture.
By using the touch screen sliders in various scene modes, images can be modified as desired. You can also take advantage of Nikon's Best Shot Selector (BSS), which automatically captures up to 10 images, and then selects and saves the best picture of the bunch

I'm a casual photographer who likes to have a point and shoot in my pocket in case something comes up while out and about. This camera is perfect for that reason. I love the ease of use and the large touchscreen. I took this one on a trip recently, with my old one for a comparison, and it performed great! There are some subtle color differences (my old one is a Nikon Coolpix S7c) but overall I couldn't be happier with my choice to stick with the Nikon Coolpix line, this is my 4th in the group.
When I initially started taking pictures right out of the box I was not impressed with how the image looked on the touchscreen... but eventually came to realize that this was just due to the technology of the touchscreen - the pictures were still crystal clear once transferred to my pc. Keep that in mind if you see it and think it speaks to lower quality. A friend's Samsung touchscreen does the same thing.
I think the only complaint I would make about it has to deal with the HD video. The videos still come out clear, but you can see faint vertical lines in darker parts of the movie... pretty much in all of them.
A complaint that I've seen (not just for the S70 but it still applies) is that people hate hitting other buttons on the back with a tap while trying to take a picture... this didn't really bother me because that's the trade-off for a touchscreen. It's also relatively easy to avoid if you just handle the camera a little better. My 2 cents.

UI is a little sluggish and not designed too well, but the camera functions well and is easy to use.

Takes great pictures, the auto adjust seems to be able to choose the correct setting nicely. The video quality is very good. The camera itself is complex to navigate, not sure a touch screen is the best application, takes getting used to. The shutter proctector seems a little flimsy, it's a camera you have to be gentle with.

Awesome camera! Small enough to take with me everywhere, with a large screen to view the pics. The touch screen makes it easy to use. No messing with pushing the right buttons. So many great features, and settings. It takes awesome pictures, and video. Can actually take a true up close picture of something. I need to get a screen cover though to protect it, already got a small scratch on it. (I think they should come with a protective screen) Just be sure to read the manual to use it correctly.
I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone

Gave this to my Girlfriend for Christmas. She's in love with the camera and all its features. Use's it for pics at partys and events. The photo quality is not completely what I expected but is still pretty good. It's a unique camera with the large touch LCD Screen..I'm glad to say all her friends are jealous!

Buttons, knobs, protusions and extendable lens are all appendages that can break or bind.
Our new Nikon Coolpix S70 uses the latest technology OLED screen to put all the user selections at the touch of a large, very easily read screen. This camera is for my 22 year old daughter. It is attractive, compares well with other point and shoot cameras on the market and with HD Video capability and the touch screen is just fun to use.
