i've been using this product to scan in images to my macbook pro, mac os 10.6.2. so far, i've only scanned b&w negatives but the results are fantastic. i considered getting one of the cheaper models on the market but the extra quality this product offers was worth the price.
the time it takes to scan is a downside but i set the software to scan and then i can surf the web or edit the images in photoshop while waiting.

Comments about Pacific Image PF7250U 35mm Film and Slide Scanner:
Bought this to scan b&w film that I've been developing as well as the family slide collection. I don't want super high resolution, so I've mostly been scanning at 1800dpi. Once you have the software set up the way you like, you can put in your film or slide, press the button, and wait. Once it's done (only about 30secs for 1800) you advance your film and press the button again.
Some people don't think the included software is versatile enough, and for them vuescan would probably be perfect. That said, I think the included software works better for image and color correction than vuescan.
It's much smaller than I imagined, and very easy to travel with. It's quiet and unobtrusive. Not nearly the greatest quality, but more than enough for most people.

Comments about Pacific Image PF7250U 35mm Film and Slide Scanner:
This unit will not do even an adequate job on Kodak slide films and is especially poor for older slides taken with low ASA film. For all color slides: monochrome areas such as sky have bands; objects have "ghost" outlines; shadows lose all resolution; even at high scan levels, even simple 4x6" prints have terrible resolution.
I also found it just about impossible to get quality positives from Kodak b&w negatives (that I know are high quality because I personally made prints from them in my own darkroom). Problems here include: extreme loss of contrast; severe loss of detail in darker areas of the negative; loss of sharpness.
The supplied software applications were of little or no help in resolving any of these issues; and, of course, Photoshop can't get blood out of a turnip.
I would not recommend this scanner.

Comments about Pacific Image PF7250U 35mm Film and Slide Scanner:
The scanner works as advertised, but the image quality is less than desirable. Finge color discoloration indicates color conversion low optical quality lens. The scratch correction software works OK for small scratches or dirt that would probably better be corrected in Photo Shop which would result in less impact to the overall image clarity.

Comments about Pacific Image PF7250U 35mm Film and Slide Scanner:
Beware, if you don't have Windows XP (I have Windows Vista) you wont' be able to download the Adobe program or the driver. No matter how much I tried, I kept getting a message that the adobe program download failed because of incompatability and my computer didn't recognized the driver. So this was a waste of money.

Comments about Pacific Image PF7250U 35mm Film and Slide Scanner:
Software and initial setup is easy. Directions warn that several settings need to be made before using. They were not kidding. Manual says it can do 24 bit color, but it only goes up to 16 bit. Has no settings for older film no longer made. No settings for Kodak B&W negatives. If you scan film with ASA lower than 100, it comes out with blotchy areas and a disturbing halo around everything. Still trying different settings to test, but looks like many slides and negatives will have to go to camera store.

Comments about Pacific Image PF7250U 35mm Film and Slide Scanner:
I've been using this scanner on a Mac with 10.6.4. The installation of the drivers was a little slow but worked fine. I initially used the scanner software included but eventually switched to vuescan. The dust and scratch removal feature works well in vuescan for color negatives. Note that it will not work with black & white negatives. The multi-exposure feature in vuescan is also available with this scanner. After some experimenting, I've been scanning film negatives at 3600 dpi. 7200 dpi didn't seem to provide any extra resolution, only bigger files. Scanning at 3600 dpi with multi-exposure mode is a bit slow, but overall, I'm happy with the quality of the scans.

A little slower than I had hoped but color and resolution are good and I can edit each photo while scanning the next. Used with Mac OS 10.5

I have thousands of slides, some of them are over 40 years old. Take the time to scan a few and get your preferences right and saved to a default and you can use the one button scan to get great results everytime. This is the third slide and film scanner I have owned and the best by far. A little slow at higher resolution. Tweezers can speed the process of removing the slide once scanned. A great product at a fair price.

This scanner does great scans of slides. It comes with Photoshop 5.0. It's very small and light weight.
It only scans one slide at a time and is a bit slow.

If I could install the product I might like it better. My XP Pro machine crashed before I had a chance to install the PF7250U. I then upgraded to win 7. It was, of course not recognized, and I could not upload new drivers--still trying. This written 1-22-10
