Have you gotten an HDTV but you're not ready to replace your large collection of DVDs with Blu-ray Discs? The Toshiba XDE600 upconverting DVD player is the answer. It doesn't play Blu-ray Discs. It makes the DVDs you already own (and may continue buying for a while) look even better than they already do by upconverting the 480i images recorded on them to 720p, 1080i, 1080p or 1080p 24fps for display on your HDTV. (The XDE600 indicates in which mode it's displaying.) It's the next best thing to replacing all of your DVDs with Blu-ray Discs at a fraction of the cost.
You can select from three display modes. Sharp adds edge detail. Color creates richer blues and greens and Contrast enhances details in darker scenes.
The XDE600 can play DVD-Video,DVD-R,DVD-RW,CD, CD-R, CD-RW and CD-DA discs. And it includes all of the features you've come to expect from Toshiba DVD players including a remote control with English, French and Spanish onscreen displays, forward and reverse, slow motion and MP3 playback.
The XDE600 is the low cost, high quality alternative to replacing your DVDs with Blu-ray Discs.

Comments about Toshiba XDE600 1080p Upconverting DVD Player:
I reviewed this player for use as an inexpensive corporate unit. The first player I received would not read DVD's but read Blu ray discs fine so I had to return it to Samsung for repair, Samsung refused to replace the unit even though it was under 30 days. The region location was not the issue but with the unit itself. The replacement unit that I received did work with no issues. Testing the video output over HDMI was above average but did not have the smoothness of an OPPO BD-83. My test media was Kung-Fu Panda on Blu ray for animation detail and refresh rate. Smooth image during modest scenes but during fast action scenes image was starting to chop a little. Grad Torino on Blu ray looks overly grainy but is true to its original source. Standard DVD up scaling was average at best. Did not test HD audio codecs (not going to be used in my setups). Network features are great if you have a Netflix account was unable to test at this time and is not being used with my company's setups. Overall for the price I prefer the Panasonic BDP-60 or 65.
