I got this so I wouldn't use up battery power while transferring my photos to the computer. I use it for a Pentax K-x, and it fits diagonally into two of the four battery slots. The main plug has a larger black unit that the cord to the camera plugs into, and then the part that goes into the battery slots can also be detached from that, which is a nice feature (it prevents you from knocking the camera over, etc. while you're unplugging). I read another review of this adapter that said it doesn't fit well into the battery slots with the cover closed, but the K-x has a little hole for the cord, so it closes and functions well.

Finding that this item is not listed at Pentax USA bothered me, because the K-x is still an active product in their lineup. Having been down the road of being unable to find/afford accessories before when not bought around the time of the main product they go with, I felt a bit worried.

B&H Photo to the rescue. They had it listed, had it in stock, and within a few days had the AC adapter in my hands.

Three simple pieces, power cord, transformer unit with cable, and battery-compartment adapter. Which adapter, by the bye, in a K-x camera goes diagonally across the two center battery-slots of the camera. I first used the unit when installing the K-x firmware update, and am quite satisfied.

As the headline says; it's cost versus cost in the case of the Pentax power adapter. I didn't have a power adapter for my Pentax K100D, so when I upgraded to the new K-x, it was time to spend the money and save myself additional time and cost. The adapter is a definite necessity if you are going to use the camera any amount of time. Downloading a 32 Gb SD that full of photos, or a a lengthy video from the camera to your laptop/PC can take a toll on those expensive Lithium batteries. Also, using the K-x in a studio environment, really requires you go with an adapter.The adapter will eventually pay for itself, at least in my case. The reason I gave this product fours (4) stars is twofold; first, I feel the cost of this power adapter is somewhat higher that it should be. Pentax should have set the MSRP 25% below the current selling price.The other issue is somewhat minor, but does impact usability. The battery compartment adapter, once inserted into the compartment with the battery door closed, forms a small sharp edge, in conjunction with the plastic adapter cable door. When you place your right hand in the natural position to grasp the camera, regardless if it is on a tripod, monopod, or freehand, the sharp protrusion cuts into your middle finger making it very uncomfortable to hold and/or take a shot. You could of course use the optional remote, except in freehand shooting. Additionally, the design of the battery compartment adapter, and the adapter cable door on the K-x is a poorly thought out, as I can see the cable eventually snapping the small plastic piece off in normal use.Other than the relatively high cost of the adapter, and the potential issue with K-x batter cable door, the unit works flawlessly.For anyone planning on using their DSLR extensively, for large groups of images and/or lengthy video, the power adapter is a must. It will pay for itself eventually, albeit, not as quickly as one might expect, due to the [$]price tag. The long term cost in Lithium batteries will pay for the power adapter, as the Pentax K-x tends to fall short of the advertised battery life, by a significant amount.

This adapter is a must for shooting any indoor video. All D-SLR cameras are notorious for draining batteries fast with video. I shot an entire workshop presentation all day long with the K-x and used the power adapter. No way I could have ever done in on batteries.

Pro's
A well constructed product and works perfectly to supply the camera with an uninterrupted power supply for shooting stills, video, etc.

Con's
The system of a battery chamber adapter rather than just a power port on the camera is a little strange and more a goofy design of the camera, but no big deal at all.

When in the house shooting, or im my case just
learning how to use this K-x LOL. the Live View
eats up battery's quickly. Now I can just leave
it on while trying to figure out what I am doing,
or have to do next.
GIANT PLUS for this.
Con: needs a 200 ft extension cord with 12 volt car lighter adapter. LOL but then I would probably want a longer extension cord.

Used first to conserve batteries when transferring images from camera to computer storage. Wife is professional artist so I end up photographing watercolor paintings for promotion, inventory and record. This may take some time and involves a LOT of pics. Adapter allows me to leave camera on without worrying about battery use. Product is easy to use and works quite well with my new Pentax Kx.

Haven't tried household or family photos with this. Suspect the cord will tether me to one location. Too bad they haven't devised a system with a belt clip for the transformer that can be plugged into an extension cord.

Upon receiving this unit I immediatly connected it to my new Pentax K-x camera. It works perfectly. Specifically, I used it while updating the cameras firmware, something I did not want to rely on batteries for.

My only surprise was upon close examination noting that it is identical to the older Pentax D-AC10 AC adapter, which I purchased when I got a Pentax *ist-DL camera several years ago. So if you already have that, you shouldn't need to get this.
