Windows 7 Ultimate from Microsoft is the long-awaited successor to the ubiquitous Windows Vista operating system. Building upon Vista's impressive feature set, Windows 7 adds many features which simplify the way you use your PC, as well as the way that your PC connects to the world.*
The Ultimate edition of Windows 7 is designed to meet the needs of business and home use alike. It omits none of the features that are found in the Home Premium or Professional editions of the software. These include improved desktop navigation, improved speed, the Internet Explorer 8 web browser, Windows Media Center, and HomeGroup networking.
Other carry-over features include Windows XP Mode, which allows you to run legacy applications in a true virtualization of Windows XP. You'll also be able to join Domains, which is often a requirement for connecting to corporate networks. Finally, the Professional edition adds the ability to backup your system to a home or business network.
The Ultimate edition adds BitLocker, which allows you to encrypt data on your hard drive and other storage devices. Encrypting data is critical in environments where it is imperative that sensitive data does not fall into the wrong hands. You'll also be able configure the OS to use any of 35 languages, making the Ultimate edition an excellent choice for multilingual users.
Both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of the operating system are included on the disc, allowing you to install the edition which best suits your needs.
Note! *Service Pack 1 has been released for Windows 7 Ultimate, so it is recommended that you download this from Microsoft's website, if you purchase Windows 7 Ultimate.

I purchased the Ultimate version (32bit) because I wanted to try all the bells and whistles on the recommendation of a beta-tester who thinks highly of the software. I have no disappointments to pass along! The program was easy to install and it just seems like its faster than XP Pro. No program freezes like in Vista. So far there has been nothing to dislike. One particular feature that is neat is the folder on the task bar that allows quick access to all the drives I have on the computer: an extra internal and two external USB backups. One thing that wasn't so great was my frustration with connecting an external mixer to the line-in and speakers out but, after some experimenting, I figured it out. The point is the problem solving was much easier than I thought. One bit of advice. Windows 7 can make use of READY BOOST and I'm using a 4GB flash drive. A word of caution: check with your vendors to determine if your old software is compatible with Windows 7. I have a few that aren't but my main digital editing and Photoshop programs are good to go. So far, so good.

This product works well for media which is my primary use. Boots faster than Vista from which I upgraded. Still clunky compared to latest linux.
Buying form B&H is always a treat. Easy, fast and fair priced.

I purchased the OS software at the recommendation of my big brother and after conducting discovery on CNET.com. The Vista Ultimate took a long time to load and it consumes a large amount of resources. What's great about the product is that not only does it seamlessly installed but also it is everything that Vista was intended to be and then some. The only thing I do not care about so far is that it does not improve the audio output even on high end computer speakers. I can live with that but the overall purpose was achieved. Thanks Microsoft!!! Let's see what you will come up with NEXT!!.

The OS is fine so far, but after 12+ hours attempting to complete an upgrade from Windows Vista Business Edition I gave up and did a clean install - not convenient. And no error messages or progress messages at any point in the process - screen went black and stayed black. The clean install, after reformat, completed in a reasonable time.

Painless upgrade from Vista, and the computer operates so much faster and easier. B&H had the best price on this upgrade; no reason to shop elsewhere.

Installation onto OCZ's RevoDrive went great! You will need to driver for the drive on a flash drive before you get started, because the installation will ask for any drivers you may need to add. It will not be able to install to the drive without them. Win7 64-bit boots in 10 seconds with it this drive, and that's without optimizing.[...]

Just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, "Night and Day difference". I use the language portion extensively and have truly found it invaluable. Cruising through the Windows 7 software is like swimming in the ocean with goggles on, so much easier to "see" the view of the product as it was developed for. As noted above, it is Truly the Ultimate software to experience.

Nothing like trying to do business on a laptop that keeps crashing. Every moment waiting on the computer to reboot, or complete a task when it is frozen, is money out the door. I searched all over the web for the best price on upgrading my Windows Vista business ed. so as to stop the down time, and found the best deals with the company I trust more than any other out there. The upgrade took a little longer than I was hoping, but my laptop is up and running, not waddling, for the first time in a long time.I would recommend going to Microsoft's site first and running a compatibility test before purchasing, which I did as well. Overall, I have not had a crash yet, knock-on-wood, and all my software has run great.[...]I would recommend not only this upgrade, but B&H to anyone, even my mother.

While pricey, and taking up half my day to upgrade (dealing with upgrading old drivers for one Xerox printer, long file conversion times, etc.), Windows 7 has a few things like Live Mesh, for synchronizing files with your laptop, a MUCH better taskbar operation, windows handling, and the wireless Homegroup setup for networking locally, that I feel Windows 7 was a wise investment. I'm already saving time, and that's the one thing I am always in short supply of. Four stars only because I wanted Home Premium or Professional, but once you get into Ultimate, Microsoft only allows you to upgrade to another Ultimate; I don't speak 35 languages, nor need Bit-Locker when I have Norton Ghost, and I did not like not being given the choice to get the Home Premium 3 pack... as I have a desktop, laptop and netbook, all of which I use. So, hint... stick with Home Premium if you can.

When it comes to Windows/ Windows 7 I like it and have no problems with it. But I also like Vista so 7 is still easy to use. The only problem I had with upgrading is the programs I had to remove first. Windows 7 tells you what you need to Uninstall so it makes it easy.
When it comes to recommending this to a friend I'm not sure if I could. If you are like me and have no problems with Vista then no I would not but this upgrade was for my Wife and she like vista and Loves Win7. So coming from her, she would say yes buy this.

I upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit) hoping to solve problems with my Vista installation. I found the upgrade easy to perform, and it did solve the problems. I did have to rebuild one RAID array afterwards, but other than that it was painless and successful. The new interface is intuitive and loads more quickly upon boot. B&H's price was at the low end of the spectrum, aside from the "branded" software, which is not worth the risk.
Happy customer.

I was running Windows Vista Ultimate but, over time, the PC slowed down to a crawl. I even gave up on web browsing (until I found Google Chrome, that is) under Vista. I'd heard Win 7 would speed up my PC, though. When EVER does an OS upgrade SPEED UP a PC instead of slowing it down? Sure 'nough, it worked! I'm back to using Internet Explorer - amazing.

The headline says it all.
Windows 7 is a worthy successor to rock solid XP (lets not mention the OS that shall not be named after that!).
64 Bit also gives you more ram options to use for power hungry multitasking.
The only thing really missing is a virtual desktop utility, but there are some good freely available ones that are available.

I use the Windows 7 operating system for a lot of things: I listen to music, play games, write book reviews and post them on my web site, maintain three web sites, and I even operate my ham radio tranceiver through the operating system on my PC. So the OS has to be good. With Vista I could count on the system locking up and needing a hard reboot at least once a day. Windows 7 Ultimate is very stable. All my os problems have gone away and happy days are here again. Microsoft should have completed the Vista product before releasing it. It seems that every other os from Microsoft is a bomb. In my opinion the company releases the new os way too soon - the goal being to make lots of money and to heck with consumer satisfaction. It is a wonder that Microsoft has done as well as they have. Well, they have a good product this time and I will not switch to the next one. Skip the next one and wait for the one after that and you will probably be wise.

I chose to perform a clean install of the Windows 7 upgrade and re-install all my software. I have been using Windows 7 for a few weeks now and have had no problems – all of my VISTA headaches are gone. Since I am a graphic designer, photographer and systems programmer, I have a broad collection of software installed – including Photoshop, SQL server 2005 and Visual Studio (to name just a few) working seamlessly. Windows 7 auto upgraded the drivers of my existing hardware including printers, scanner, tablet etc with no hitches.
