Installing the upgrade from Windows XP was easy although time consuming, but then the real work started. The upgrade requires all your programs to be reinstalled (plus any revisions that have taken place) Then you find some programs cannot be upgraded - so do you buy the latest version or do you really need it becomes the question. The Windows Easy Transfer worked ok for the files which I had saved on an external hard drive - as suggested by Microsoft, although the upgrade automatically saves the original Windows programs and Files as Windows Old on your hard drive - which takes considerable space - so now you have to make the decision - what do I Trash? Some of the drivers have to be checked - I have a Sony VAIO and Windows 7 tells me the Sony MPEG Realtime Encoder Board is incompatible - so I go to Sony - they say your devices should work ok - so then I get on to the forums and find people who have complained that Sony ignored their problems when the OS was changed to Vista. So I still get the error message. The system has crashed a few times and I am not certain whether is the Encoder Board or something else causing it. Little annoying problems which take days of your time!
However, Windows 7 is definitely an improvement over Windows XP. I did purchase a new Laptop which came with the Windows 7 upgrade from the Vista program on the laptop, and that works well, which is why I decided to upgrade my Sony.

I didn't expect it to look like Vista. Disappointing. In Windows Explorer, the Search is not intuitive, to me. I couldn't get it to find files I know were in specific subfolders. Also in Explorer, the view mode kept changing from details to icons or thumbnails. Puzzling.
Win7 performs faster than Vista, though I haven't done any measuring. All of my existing photo software fit right in. As I said in the headline, it's better than Vista, but instructions could be clearer.

Comments about Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (32- or 64-bit) (Upgrade from XP or Vista):
I really like my current Dell computer but the software was Windows Vista and I needed more space and a faster run time. So I talked with a B&H computer person and they advised me to purchase the Windows 7 Home Premium. I did and it was one of the best buys I have made. It was very easy to install, my computer is faster, I have so much more space for the projects I am doing. I feel like I came out of this deal shining. Thank you sales people at B&H and Windows 7. It meets all my expectations.

Windows 7 is soooo much better than Vista that I'm amazed. Win Live, add on tool to download after loading Win 7, is a very sophisticated tool for photo editing and printing. This from a total Photoshop Elements user.

I purchased Windows 7 to upgrade from Vista. I am very happy with my decision. I price shopped on many different sites before finally pressing the buy button on bhphotovideo.com. They had exactly what I was looking for at the price I wanted.[...] the product was as advertised. I have no complaints.

Even though my first attempt to upgrade to 7 from Vista online failed and cost me [$], without remedy, I did purchase the proper upgrade after talking with a consultant. Installation went well and I am satisfied to date. The price for this proper upgrade was lower than other sources and that was the only good aspect of this deal. Windows 7 is a good upgrade.

Windows 7 is a big improvement over Vista and solved several issues I was having. Disk management and speed have improved. It is a shame to have to pay for an upgrade on a poorly designed Vista.

I purchased the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade for my 3 year old Dell Inspiron laptop. I was upgrading from Vista. The upgrade literature said I should be able to do a simple upgrade install w/o having to reload the entire OS. Well, that wasn't the case. What I thought would take me an hour or so ended up taking me days. I'm still in the process of reinstalling all of my 3rd party software and much of it doesn't work. I should have gone w/ my original instinct and bought a new Mac laptop.

I purchased this upgrade to escape Windows Vista and match the other machines in our office. I installed it on an HP p6140f with a Quad-core processor, 8 GB RAM, and a 1TB hard drive. The installation, though it took a long time, went pretty smoothly and seems to be working as expected. The usual updates to printer/plotter drivers was required, but was all accomplished within the dialog system.

Installed this OS on our kids computer. Had been using XP Pro prior to this upgrade as our exposure to Vista had not been positive. Overall I am impressed with the improvements that MS has made to their OS. Very smooth OS that works well for our kids.

I had already had the chance to check this out on a friend's computer and it was very smooth. I feel like there's a lot less lag overall, it never feels like it's slowing down like with Vista. The side to side window feature as well as the icons representing what you have minimised are definitely as cool as the commercials made them out to be. This was totally worth the money I spent (it was also the cheapest price I paid after comparing to a lot of websites before purchasing, which was also detrimental to my decision to buy).

I upgraded a windows Vista Home premium 32bit laptop to a 64 bit Windows 7 Home premium. It certainly improved the computer's performance and use. Now I can increase Ram's memmory. Used the CUSTOM upgrade and had to reinstall all programms. It takes good half of a day. I would not go upgrading windows XP Professional, but getting rid of Vista was the right decission.

Well, it is better than Vista, less crashes but Microsoft has lots to do to bring it to the level of XP. Thus it clearly points out that it was made under the pressure of the market.
