Well, I really LIKED this little unit while it lasted. In this day in age, it would be expected to be able to make MIDI controllers small enough to fit inside a plastic USB plug, and Alesis did it. I plugged it in to my Mac and it just worked: easy to see indicator lights as well. For some reason, the IN and OUT cables are reversed. I thought that this was a mistake on my cable, but now I'm reading the same from other reviewers. But as long as you know to reverse them, it works great. I had an M-Audio Uno previously, but that was always finicky, and I could notice some latency, so I wouldn't recommend that.
I've been using this cable for the past 7 months for heavy live use, keyboard/laptop VI stuff, and it's been SUPERB. Until last week when while at rehearsal, it just died, and stopped receiving midi IN signals. I'm willing to give this thing the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to some strange glitch. I'll probably buy two of them just to be safe in the future.
Emu has a similar cable, but 0 latency is really important to me (even my MOTU Firewire unit has some noticeable delay), and this one definitely delivers, so I may just stick with it.

The device drivers auto install (plug and play) when you plug in the cable but on my windows xp music system the interface could not be found by any midi aware programs. I tried it on 4 computers and it worked on one of them.

I'm running Logic Pro 9 rewired into Reason 4. I have electric drums with Midi out. This worked perfect! I plugged it in and instantly it recognized the Midi and worked. No setup required.
