The LPK25 from Akai is a USB-MIDI 25-key mini keyboard controller that is a perfect fit for use with a laptop computer. It measures less than 13 inches across, weighs less than a pound and will easily fit into a laptop case, backpack or messenger bag for extreme portability.
Keyboard players who want to work with software on their computer will find that the LPK25 gives their laptop the keys they need to express themselves anywhere. DJs can use the controller to trigger loops and samples in a live situation.
The controller contains an arpeggiator, which steps through chords automatically, assisting musicians with creating quick melodic ideas. Sustain, octave up and down, tap tempo controls and 4 memory banks for programming and recalling settings round out the easy-to-learn layout.
The LPDK25 works plug and play with Mac and Windows software and requires no driver installation or wall power for operation.

The LPK 25 keyboard more than satisfies one's expectations. I use this for home recording and performance, specifically producing dance genres and basically everything else that can be dreamed up. The keys feel exactly how they should - light, fast, compact and velocity sensitive. As a laptop performance keyboard, its 25 keys display a range of two octaves at once. The octave up and down function buttons sweep across an entire piano roll. The function buttons also include a built in arpeggiator, sustain, and program for four different scene set ups. The scene editor software is simple and fast. The keyboard and scene software takes minutes to learn for beginners, and is a quick set up for experienced users of midi controllers. It can be used for triggering beats and sending CC messages. The LPK25 works great, is built sturdy, and doesn't glitch or lag. The colors are also pretty stylish. It would be better if the arpeggiator had a midi clock to sync with the digital audio work station, otherwise arpeggiated notes get out of sync after a number of bars. The LPK25 keyboard is a great buy for anyone who wants a light, portable, and top performance midi keyboard.

I use this with my laptop for notation software entry. It is easy to use (plug and play) and its small size fits in a laptop bag or backpack. The only drawback is the range--I'd like another octave (though choosing between range and a compact size that fits in my laptop bag, I chose the size). There are octave up/down buttons that work fine.

Comments about Akai LPK25 - USB Laptop Performance Keyboard:
I use two DAW's in VST system link. I needed another controller to more easily trigger sounds from the secondary DAW because routing MIDI through VST system link isn't exactly swift enough for my workflow. All I needed was a way to trigger sounds from the other DAW and this controller did that and more. Plus, with USB plug and play, it was simple as can be to set up.

Comments about Akai LPK25 - USB Laptop Performance Keyboard:
Bought this to use with VST drums in recording software. Works pretty good, keys are a little small; but the upside to this is that it is small enough to store in a drawer instead of taking up space on the desktop. Seems pretty durable compared to the M-Audio controllers that I tested at the local [@] (those seemed like thin, cheap plastic). Still haven't figured out how to assign different drum sounds to individual keys on the keyboard, so don't know if that is done via the software or if you can program the keyboard itself. Bottom line is that this works for what I need it to do and is easy to store. Worth the money and B&H had it $20 cheaper than anywhere else with free shipping!

As an animator I learned that you get what you pay for. I bought the keyboard so I could make simple scores for animations.
For a cheaper midi keyboard it is simple and nice. I had no problems with the connection and installation. And there is no annoying delay. It works very well.
What I don't like is the size and the key weight. If you have bigger fingers I would look to something with bigger keys. Also when pressing the key the lack of weight just feels awkward. I would not recommend this for serious composers. If you need something simple and cheap then it is a great product.

First let me say that B&H is the place to go, it was a great price and fast shipping, worthy of 5 stars. The Akai LPK25 however, won't play on my Win XP Pro, SP3 system. It recognizes the device by name, but can't find the drivers to let it be recognized by any music software. I also have a Borg NanoKEY, which works perfectly. Borg also makes drivers available for the NanoKEY.

Comments about Akai LPK25 - USB Laptop Performance Keyboard:
I'm a recording artist/composer working on my second album. I purchased the LPK-25 to use as a MIDI controller for drums, but have taught myself how to play piano and synth with this awesome little tool. I use Mixcraft as my DAW, and Windows 7 64 bit OS...the LPK-25 is totally plug-and-play! It's so essential to my compositions and performance now that, after having my first one fall off the table onto the floor and breaking the mini plug off in the jack, I immediately had to replace it...this time with an extended replacement warranty!
The keys, while narrow, are weighted great and are very expressive by velocity. I just love it, and if somebody told this guitarist/bassist he would be playing piano and synth a year ago, I would never have believed it. But this Akai product is so much FUN to play...like I said, I cannot picture my work without it now.
Thank you B & H for the great price (20 bucks less than everyone else)and the fast and courteous service...you have my loyalty!

I use this keyboard (in conjunction with another controller) to play Midi instruments and drum sounds in Ableton Live. It takes very little space on my worktable, has some velocity sensitivity in the keys and basically does what I need it to do.
Nice little tool.

I use this midi to produce to produce electronic music on the go. Just one simple USB connection and you have full midi capability. You can navigate through the octaves easily with just the click of a button and have an arpeggiator on board. The keys are velocity sensitive which is a huge plus for a keyboard at this price. You can take this thing anywhere!
Comments about Akai LPK25 - USB Laptop Performance Keyboard:
I use this with ableton and its great. the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because the arpeggio is really disapointing. overall extremely solid small midikeyboard, well worth the money.

I am using this keyboard to learn how to play the piano. My Professor told me that I needed to get a keyboard, so I decided to go and get this controller. It works almost perfectly and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The only thing I don't like is how sensitive the velocity is...that's really the only con.

I use the LPK25 every Sunday in the worship band. It's perfect when you need a second key board to do leads or other fills. The tap feature is so easy to use and allows me to add arpeggios at the same tempo as the song we're playing.
