    Nice addition to EyeFi card

Comments about Aluratek 3G Portable Wireless USB Cellular Router:

I got an EyeFi card to be able to transfer images in the field to a bigger screen for review. The ad-hoc networking in the EyeFi card wasn't working well for me, so I thought a battery-powered wireless router would do the trick. Indeed it did.

I'd have given it 5 stars if the setup was easier. I'm not using a USB cellular stick with it. And I couldn't get it to connect to the internet using the EtherNet jack as a WAN connection. The EyeFi card normally wants an EtherNet connection to be able to be connected with a router, so not being able to share internet via the router's clients was blocking the EyeFi setup. I finally found the tip to connect the EyeFi card to the router marked as "not in reach". That did the trick. The Aluratek battery life looks good for what I want (2-4 hours). And it takes a replaceable battery that looks like a cell phone battery, so I assume getting more batteries if needed would be easy.

If they had half stars, I'd ding 'em another 1/2 for not answering my e-mail to support, before I figured out the setup by myself.

One final note: the size listed for this product on some sites seems to be the size of the box it comes in. The router itself is about 4-1/4" x 3" x 3/4+". It was easy to find room for it in my camera bag.

great for portable DSLR to iPad setup

Comments about Aluratek 3G Portable Wireless USB Cellular Router:

i bought this portable router to use as a Wi-Fi hotspot to connect my DSLR camera (with Eye-Fi SD card) to my iPad. i simply turn on the router and place it near my camera bag and it becomes the link between the iPad and camera

this unit works great, was easy and quick to setup, and has made my photo shoots much more productive since the creative director can review the photos on the iPad right after i take them

only reason i give it 4 stars is because i wish the battery life was longer (just under 4 hours) or a second battery was included. this was a minor issue that was solved by purchasing a second battery for those longer photo shoots

Comments about Aluratek 3G Portable Wireless USB Cellular Router:

I agree with the other reviewers that this router works well. I use it for mobile photography applications in combination with the ShutterSnitch app for iPad/iPhone.

The router is easy to configure once you get past the somewhat stilted English used in the web-based administration utility. Its data rate performance seems good and battery life is excellent -- I usually run down two camera batteries before the router battery gives up, and it's a standard size that's changeable in the field so you can carry a spare battery.

My only caution is to handle it somewhat carefully, the way you'd handle a camera or lens; don't bang it around. Mine recently quit working; on looking inside, I found that one of the battery contacts had broken off and jammed inside the contact block, possibly as the result of being dropped during a previous shooting session. The damage doesn't look repairable so I now have to decide either to replace it or to switch to some other product.

Comments about Aluratek 3G Portable Wireless USB Cellular Router:

If you own an iPad then this is a must have. It is very easy to set up and is small enough ti fit in a pocket.

I use it to transfer small jpg from a WFT to the iPad using shuttersnitch. After setting up (takes a couple of minutes) turn it on. Connect the iPad to the network, then turn on the WFT. Start shooting and within a couple of seconds images will appear. RAW files are too big to transfer but if you want to view images then small jpg is sufficient.
