Comments about Creative Light Softbox Speedring for Portable Speedlights:
I purchased this speedring along with the CL 3' Octa soft box. I could see no problems attaching a shoe mount flash to the flash mount but I only used it once with my SB800. I primarily use this speedring with my Quantum T5DR. This requires the removal of the flash mount from the speedring otherwise the flash would be too tall. I then use the knurled knob 1/4 20 thread and the included spacer to attach the T5DR directly to the speedring. Care must be taken not to drop the bolt and spacer when removing or attaching the flash as they are loose and can easily fall to the floor.

I use this with the Octabank and have been very pleased so far. I have not seen the problems others write about the unit spinning. Be sure to tighten it down and it works great.

Hello folks. Here to update you on the design woes plaguing the speedring. Creative Light has obviously listened to customer complaints because the issues surrounding the speedring have been, as far as I can see, resolved. Just received my new speedring, along with a 24" square softbox. The speedring coldshoe has been changed out with one that allows you to tighten the flash so it doesn't fall off (be careful not to overtighten). Also, it would appear that the problem with the nuts coming loose when turning the softbox has also been resolved with a much nicer set of plastic sleeves over the bolts. Also, if you're wondering just how big the speedring is, it's big enough to accomodate a Canon 580EXII flash with a Pocket Wizard TT5 underneath it, and still fit into the hole. I am really glad that this company has designed products to cater to the speedlight crowd. We love our softboxes!

Comments about Creative Light Softbox Speedring for Portable Speedlights:
I use this all the time when I randomly just need some low power soft fill light with my 580. Things I do like about this is that its one of the only heavy duty ways to mount a small strobe on a softbox. However the hotshoe on this is thing is absolutely worthless. One of my biggest annoyances with this thing is that it doesn't have any way to change the angle that it is at. I have had to use one of the knuckles I have for my c stands to be able to do it. Being able to turn the softbox is a great feature but when if loosens the screws every time i turn it then the softbox randomly falls off in the middle of a shoot...not good. However this was easily fixed my putting lock nuts on the screws but its still frustrating because this should have been done at the factory.
Anyway this is still the best way to mount a strobe to a softbox so I can live with the faults and hopefully they will improve upon their next model...hopefully

I returned this item as I had a couple issues with it.
1. Bulky and heavy. I purchased this for use as a speedring for a compact travel kit using speedlights.. Mounting to a compact Manfrotto stand made the unit so top heavy it was unwieldy. Better suited for a normal light stand for stability.
2. It was nice that the speedring permits you to rotate the softbox, however I found the act of doing this consistently caused the nuts to loosen on the speedring. As this setup was intended for a light weight travel kit, having to bring a small wrench to deal with this was not an option.

Like the above review stated, the hotshoe mount is useless....its milled flat and all contact points touch on the SB-800 I was going to use on it. I had another mount that I installed, replacing the included mount.
I love the rotating mount...its great! Lots of room for the SB-800. I am now using it primarily with my Q-flash....its perfect for this mount!
Lots of money for a mount...but its sturdy, rotates, and doesnt look like something homemade.
I use a 24X30-ish sized interfit softbox on it.
Comments about Creative Light Softbox Speedring for Portable Speedlights:
I haven't used this for work yet having just received it today but this speedring seems to be a great option for using speedlights with softboxes and works perfectly with the few tests I have done. However, the shoe on this is really loose. My Nikon SB 800 slides in with so much room to spare that I immediately replaced the shoe with another closer fitting adapter I had lying around. The minute you pick this up with the original shoe you run the risk of your speedlight falling off and crashing to the ground. Not good. If you don't have a spare shoe adapter lying around then make sure you add one to your cart when purchasing this product because the one that comes with it is useless (at least for Nikon..)
