I travel with strobes, portable power, etc for on-location photoshoots. I bought this stand to save some space and weight in my check-on bag. I just got back from a trip and must say that this stand was disappointing. I have it two stars because it is lightweight and compact. However, the craftsmanship leaves a lot to be desired. The very top extension rod slid back down into the compact position and no matter how tight I turned the knob, it wouldn't stay. This is inconvenient when it is holding a $200-$400 strobe. Also, the silver tip in that same extension would not stay in place and had a tendency to fall out. Once I modified the stand to serve my purposes on a temporary basis, I strapped my Vagabond II portable power pack to the base to keep it from blowing over.
What have I learned? I'd rather have the weight and height of a normal lightstand than use one of these again. When you are dealing with equipment that, if it breaks, your business is dead in the water, better be safe than sorry. It might be just for simple home or family trip use but not if you need stands professionally. One last note. Do not use more than a lightweight strobe and very small softbox on this stand.
