At just 0.8" thin, the ultra compact Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 fits seamlessly into your pocket and digital lifestyle. A newly developed Leica lens offers a 4.6x optical zoom while remaining flush with the camera body. Stylishly slim and easy to carry, you'll always be ready for the moments that matter. From portraits of friends and family to cityscapes and street scenes, the advanced 12.1 megapixel sensor ensures the highest image quality possible. Panasonic's Intelligent Auto (iA) Mode delivers high speed AF tracking for moving subjects, optical image stabilization, scene mode selection, and auto ISO to make great pictures as simple as point-and-shoot. Concentrate on the subject in front of you - let the camera do the rest. HD Video Recording even allows you to capture breath-taking, broadcast-quality video of everything from birthday parties to concerts. With all of these features and more, the incredibly slim Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 lets you enjoy making great photos and video right out of the box.

Leica Wide Angle Zoom Lens
Leica optics are world-renown for their high quality and exceptional value. Coupled with the Lumix DMC-FP8, the 4.6x Optical Leica Vario-Elmar lens provides convenient wide angle to telephoto coverage. This range represents a 35mm equivalent of 28-128mm. From landscapes to portraits, macro to action shots, this optic ensures first-class image quality in an ultra-convenient focal range.
POWER Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.)
Boasting Panasonic's newly developed POWER Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.), the DMC-FP8 automatically detects and corrects for camera shake. With twice the shake suppression of MEGA O.I.S, POWER O.I.S provides consistently sharp, crisp, photographs you can be proud of. The technology works seamlessly at any focal length or focusing distance.
Intelligent Auto (iA) Mode
Taking great photos should be as simple as point-and-shoot. That's the philosophy behind Panasonic's Intelligent Auto (iA) Mode. Combining face detection autofocus, AF tracking for moving subjects, image stabilization, scene mode selection, and auto ISO selection, the DMC-FP8 delivers consistently beautiful photographs.
Illuminated Controls
The back of the DMC-FP8 features illuminated controls to help navigate camera settings - even under dimly lit conditions.
Shoot Faster, Longer
The DMC-FP8 boasts high-speed 0.95 second start-ups, AF speeds of approximately 0.3 second, and up to five consecutive shots at 2.3 frames per second at full resolution. Highly energy efficient, you can also take up to 380 photos on a single battery charge.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 Digital Camera (Red):

I have only had the camera a couple of weeks, but I can tell you this: It takes great pictures, the time from turning it on to snaping a photo is very short. Nice size, easy to use. Nothing bad to say about it. I used it last weekend at a party in a fairly dark bar and it took great photo's in limited light. I did get a smodge on the lens because it is not protected though, so make sure you keep an eye on that. A simple lens cleaning cloth will work. I also took a couple pics of my finger because of the lens location.

I use the camera on a daily basis.
It fits in my purse, nice design, easy to use.
The only thing I could complain about is that I have to resize the pictures in order to email them. But that's pretty simple to do.
This was a real good deal for the camera compared to a hundred dollars more on other sites.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 Digital Camera (Red):

There is a great deal to be said for having a supremely small, simple to use camera. You never feel like leaving it behind - it'll fit in any pocket. If its photo qualities aren't up to those of an EP-2 or Leica X1, so be it. This camera has a number of things that really make it useful. And good. One's the lens. It's a Leica. The extra bit of wide angle is great for shooting interiors. The "intelligent auto" mode is great for most needs. Second, it starts up almost immediately, and is ready to shoot again in an instant. Third, colors are accurate, autofocus is fast, and the image quality is superb for what most of us need; web shots and an occasional 8 x 10. Panasonic's problems with higher iso numbers (i.e. 800) are much reduced compared to earlier Lumix models I've owned. Fourth, battery life is really superb.

In some ways, this reminds me of my old Contax T2. And that's high praise.

And always remember, the best camera is the one you have with you.

The only negative is that you need a special adapter (not included) for charging the battery while still inside the camera.

The camera was faster than expected and did well in low light. I was disappointed that there was no explanation for the different preset modes. Why I would ever need the food mode I have no idea. Pet mode was really cute.
