Bescor SA-1 Universal Swivel Shoe Adapter
Bescor's SA-1 Universal Swivel Shoe Adapter can be attached to any camera's shoe mount for attaching external microphones or lights. It comes with a mini hot shoe adapter that's designed specifically for use with Sony camcorders. The SA-1 also features a 1/4" 20 thread screw and a swivel function with a locking knob.

Easy of use
Cons: You need to be very gentle when taking it out of the hot-shoe. It seems like the plastic part that goes into the hot-shoe is the weakest part on the adapter but as long as you don't rip it off your camera it should hold up just fine. Just be careful that's all.

The plastic shoe mount on the bottom is very low quality. As you tighten the screw, the metal rails of the accessory shoe scrape the cheap plastic construction of this mount, shredding the plastic as you tighten it. I currently have it permanently attached to a bracket while a new, better adapter comes in the mail. If I detach the current adapter from the bracket, the process of loosening it will literally cause it to fall apart. Spend the extra few dollars to buy something better.

I have a canon hv400 and wanted to mount an Azden wireless mic receiver. The base mount which attaches to Canon mini shoe is too small. It will slide no matter how tight you adjust it. Might work with other brands but not Canon.

-i was trying to create a way to pan my microphone on top of my DSLR without moving the camera. it moves, but the groves in the ball head don't make the movement smooth
-if you are using it to mount lights or give a little more height to your stand still microphone I RECCEMOND, but if your trying to create a microphone panning mechanism i would go with something else.

I am a professional news videographer and use this adapter for my LED light on top of the camera. I like the fact that I can point the light down a little when I'm interviewing someone - the light washes over their face more directly.
So far, this has been a good buy. The adapter locks tightly and my light has remained solid on top of the camera.

It works for light weight LED lights but I would not use it for anything where you expect it to stabilize a heavy light and not swivel a bit or shift, like on a run and gun video. Not that it doesn't work, it is just not designed for rock solid steady performance in that situation.

This horrible, horrible product absoultely does NOT fit securely on my Sony HDR-CX550V Handycam. The adapter cannot be tightened so that it does not wobble on the the camera shoe. This would be absolutely disasterous if used for an external microphone and extremely annoying if used for anything else, such as a light.

I would NOT recommend this for a Sony camcorder. Yes, it does have an "adapter" for the small shoe, but it does not lock down. This means whatever you have mounted on it will wobble and rattle. I bought this to use with a Rode microphone and the banging noise it creates is beyond unacceptable.
It is an "ok" product if you have a standard shoe as the standard shoe has a locking ring. Just make sure the shoe on your cam is in no way recessed into the body as the locking ring is rather large.
I give this 2 stars only because it has adequate utility with a standard shoe.

Plastic, but sturdy. Mounts an LED Lamp atop the Canon XF 305 and allows for 360 deg. swivel, but more importantly- a tilt upward. Side clamp knob could be a bit smaller, and the top tightening nut is a tad bit cumbersome.
