3 stars because the packaging suggests the radios can work in a building up to 17 floors. I think they should clarify that thats on a construction site where only the skeleton of the building is up (no walls and no floors). Then I'd buy 17 floors.
We tried to use these at a live event in a hotel in mid-town NYC. We stayed on the same floor within 200' of each other and were unable to maintain radio communication. Of course there were walls in between us, but our expectations based on manufacturer claims weren't met.

A cellphone or a Blackberry may not always be convenient to use in a school situation. By purchasing the Kenwood two-way radio, the administrative staff, the dean and the office are literally a click away whether in the basement (four floors down) out in the schoolyard, or on a fire drill, instant communication is the key. Great purchase!

We use the radios to communicate between coworkers in different parts of a large building. Previously we used consumer line products, but reception, clarity and battery life were never good. Since using the Kenwood we have not had any problems. The progaming of the radio could be improved, but I still give it 5 stars since once it is set, I have not needed to adjust it.

These radio's are great, we have 6 of them at our business and are about to order 2 more. We never get interference from other radios outside our business, they have good range, are very light weight, and great battery life. We have put these units through the ringer, they have been dropped and abused a lot and are still working just fine. I would highly recommend these to anyone I know.
