I bought this on the recommendation of my nephew who is a film producer. He uses these My Books to store all this digital video files. I bought this to store my iTunes library and my photos, and am using it with a Mac Air.
The My Book was simple to install, and very intuitive to use. The equipment itself is sleek and streamlined, although I was kind of hoping for something smaller that would be a little more portable.
So far I have had no issues with this external drive. I am very pleased with the purchase.

I use the My Book for Mac to backup my iMac quad core i5 using Mac's Time Machine.
The "Book" is unobtrusive, sitting behind my Mac in such a way that I can see its status if I wish. But, otherwise it goes unnoticed. The set up was very simple even for a novice.
The only thing missing is a FireWire connection which I had with my previous back up hard drive. Aside from this, considering the cost, this WD drive is a terrific value.

I have it backing up my IMAC. I have lots of images. It works great, was easy to use, just plugged it to the USB and the power. I would definitely recommend it so far. I have only used it for a few weeks.

Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book for Mac External Hard Drive:
Out of the box and up and running in minutes. Not the fastest hard drive, but for the money and for my needs, does just fine. Can now turn Time Machine back on; my iMac is again backed up after my LaCie hard drive failure (which thankfully did not happen all at once). This WD drive is quiet and efficient.
Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book for Mac External Hard Drive:
works great but now with so many devices being streamlined in size I find this one a bit clunky.

Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book for Mac External Hard Drive:
I wish I had paid the bit extra and gotten a light weight, small, much more portable wireless back up drive that would automatically back up without needing to attach cables to the USB port.
WAY too heavy, bulky to be a reasonable traveling companion. Would have rather do without the TB size for the convenience. My fault really. I didn't understand the difference.

Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book for Mac External Hard Drive:
Nice backup drive for the Imac since it comes pre formatted for Mac. Works fine the Mac backup program "Time Machine" or you can use the backup routine that comes with the drive. It is also a nice compact size so it fits nicely on the desk next to my Imac. Had this about two weeks and so far so good. If you have a lot of stuff to back-up the initial backup can take some time since the drive is only USB2 compatible. Would have given this 5 stars if it were USB3 or firewire compatible.

I have a 2GB WD drive and two of these. It has a thin profile, its quiet and so far, very reliable.
Just a tad bit too slow...I use it to store photos and a similar one to back them up. Its very slow, but that should be expected from a USB 2.0

This a great backup for all your digital files. Seemless setup, works with Time Machine on your Mac. My only issue is that it won't automatically backup other harddrives you may have. This needs to be done manually.
Still happy though!

Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book for Mac External Hard Drive:
I am new to the iMac and was looking for a simple storage device that worked with Time Machine. Essentially, all I had to do was plug-in the hard drive through the USB port, point Time Machine there and everything worked flawlessly.
I especially like the feature that it turns itself off when the iMac is shut off. One less thing to think about.
I did not use any of the included software since I am depending on Time Machine to work.
It does seem a little pricey given that you can find 2TB storage for roughly the same price.
