Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book Elite External Hard Drive:
I needed a secondary external hard drive to back up my important data. When I first fired up the hard drive, it was not working. I had to format it to use it for my IMac. It was a bit of a hassle to figure out how to format it, but google answered quickly how to do so. After that, everything is quick, reliable, and I like the product.

Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book Elite External Hard Drive:
I ordered two. Both arrived with the internal parts so shifted off center that I could not plug in the power cord or mini-usb without first sticking a screw-driver in and prying things back into place. If it had been just one, or if they had been opened, I might want to blame B&H, but as there were two and they were sealed-[...] Once I got the power cord plugged in--I was able to get the mini usb plugged in as well--however, if I unplug things--I have to go through the whole process again.

If you buy this drive or any other Western Digital external hard drive with the "Smartware" software dont not install it, my computer run as fast as a snail with this so called Smartware software. Western Digital needs to do something with there software. I do like like the auto shutdown feature.

Installs in seconds. I've put all of my music on this hard drive. I won't have to load all of my CD's the next time I buy a new computer. I can just attach this hard drive. 1tb will last a long time before it is filled. It is also a great way to store my photos.

Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book Elite External Hard Drive:
The cord on this 1 TR drive feels a little thicker than the last one I purchased, which is good. This one is also better in that it has little rubber bumpers to stand it up on edge (the last 1 TR My Book I lay flat on the desk, and it has no bumpers on any side). Like other customers, I have chose to not install the software on the hard drive, and it keeps asking to install it. I do not want auto backup, and read that others had problems when they installed the auto software. I need to do research and see if someone has figured out how to have it stop asking to install their software.

Comments about Western Digital 1TB My Book Elite External Hard Drive:
I use this spacious hard drive to keep my home video and photo archives.
Of course, I had to disable the annoying "virtual CD" partition containing the software. This "feature" really makes no sense, since a new version of SmartWare has to be downloaded from the WD website anyway.
The enclosure is pleasing to the eye and I really like the e-Ink label showing the amount of free space. Unfortunately, the only way to configure the label is to use the SmartWare program, so even those who do not want its backup functionality have to run it (and the tray icon cannot be disabled).
Hopefully the warranty term is indicative of the product's quality, but it is too early to tell.

I just connected the drive and I was done. It was just that easy.4 stars because I have only had it for two weeks.
