The Holga 120 Medium Format Camera Starter Kit from Lomography. This famous medium-format dynamo, has been upgraded with a built-in flash and color-gel filters. The Holga helps create unusual pictures day or night. The flash opens up new worlds of low-light images with Holga effects, soft focus, double-exposures, streaming colors, intense vignetting and unpredictable light leaks. A "B" setting keeps the shutter open for as long as you like, and new tripod thread allows for smooth tripod mounting and sharper images.

The Holga owes its extraordinary images to a few factors: a simple semi-wide plastic lens, professional-grade medium format film, a long exposure option, the ability to shoot multiple times on the same frame and advance partial frames, a somewhat-not-light-tight body.

Included in this starter kit is the book, "The World Through a Plastic Lens", put together by Lomography which shows the Holga's capabilities. In addition to the book, the kit includes black opaque tape to seal the camera seams against light leaks, a poster, and instructions. The kit does not include film or batteries.

Note! The manufacturer recommends professional film lab development only.

Plastic 60mm F8 Lens
The Holga's heart and soul. A dead-simple multi-element plastic lens that makes colors radiate and makes total image sharpness take a holiday. You can also expect a bit of vignetting (darkening) around the edges - especially on a sunny day. The focal length is approximately equal to 38mm on a standard 35mm camera - so it's a little bit wider than the normal perspective.
120 Medium Format Film
At four times the size of 35mm film, a typical 120 print has incredible depth, richness and colors.
Built-In Colorflash
With the built-in Colorflash, users can turn a little wheel around the flash unit. Choose red, yellow, or blue filters to tint your burst of light.
Uncoupled Advance and Shutter
After shooting a Holga image, you can choose to advance it one full frame, a partial frame, or not advance at all. 120 film shows its exposure count through a little red window on the cameras rear door. This feature allows you to shoot limitless times on the same frame and advance only partial frames to create semi-panoramic, overlapping images.
Variable Shutter Speeds
Choose the standard daytime speed of 1/125 sec, or the long-exposure B where you can hold the shutter open for as long as you want. The B setting will capture night images at night with out a flash, or pair the B setting with a flash to freeze action and use a tripod to get a sharp image.
Variable Aperature
Choose f/11 for sunny shots, f/8 for cloudy and nighttime shots.
Zone Focus
The lens has four focus settings: portrait, small group, big group and infinity.
"The World Through A Plastic Lens"
The Holga's pristine square shots led a select civilization in a cult following of the plastic-lens camera. In honour of this obsession, we pooled up the greatest Holga fanatics to create a book that celebrates the global pursuit of Holga mastery. Edited by Adam Scott, Holga aficionado extraordinaire, "The World Through A Plastic Lens" contains a packed 308 pages of over 500 images submitted by members of the Lomographic community, edited into a stunning stream of soft-focus, x-pro, light-leaked, multiple-exposed and pseudo-panoramic dreamscapes - all in 120mm. Sprinkle on top of that packed list tips and tricks.

Comments about Lomography Holga Color Flash Starter Kit:

This is my first experience with medium format photography. It has been a good experience so far. This kit is perfect if you don't plan on being too serious. The color wheel in the flash has produced some very interesting pictures. Definitely not what I expected. Definitely a lot better.

Comments about Lomography Holga Color Flash Starter Kit:

Being a Holga, you can do pretty much whatever you want with it and get really creative in your photography. The whole idea of the Lomography aesthetic is to shoot, shoot, shoot and play, play, play! So, that is exactly what I did! And I have seldom been so creatively satisfied. All the features of the camera work very well and are easy to understand. Without being complex, they still allow you a great deal of creative maneuvering which point-and-shoots do not.
I THOROUGHLY recommend this to anyone who wants to do film photography and get organic special effects in their photos.

Comments about Lomography Holga Color Flash Starter Kit:

I was SO excited when I received my Holga! If you follow the instructions, everything is easy! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the back plate that comes off can EASILY bend the metal sliders on each slide if you don't put it on carefully. I may just have jumped the gun putting my film in, but I put the plate on upside down and it bent the metal sliders immediately and the back doesn't fit right! After some messing around I luckily got it to fit ok... so BE CAREFUL!!! I haven't even developed the film yet... so no comment's on how the pictures turned out. But if you follow the directions, the camera is easy to use. Just keep in mind it is a toy camera... so be careful and treat it with delicacy and care!
