The Vivitar 500mm f/6.3 Mirror Lens is an ultra-telephoto manual focus lens which, due to its mirror design, is extremely compact and lightweight for its focal length. This is achieved by using an advanced reflex design. The drawback to this is that only one fixed aperture is possible, and only in manual focus and manual exposure modes. This lens is ideally suited for outdoor photography. It has a fixed aperture of f/6.3.
This lens uses a T-mount adapter (not included).

I use this lens for wildlife pictures. Focusing may not be easy but you get used to manual. You can use this lens only if there is good light.

Comments about Vivitar VIV-500-6.3 500mm f/6.3 Mirror Lens:
As a yearbook class we use 70-300mm lenses for all of our sport photos but found they were too short for some sports. As the adviser I needed to find a longer lens but was unable due to cost. I could have purchased teleconverters but opted to try this instead. For night-time football games it is too slow but we have had great success with daytime football, baseball and soccer games. Once the kids get the hang of having to focus they are excited about the shots they can take with this lens.
