The affordable Canon PIXMA iP4700 Photo Inkjet Printer yields impressive print resolutions up to 9600 x 2400dpi (color) for sharp, detailed images and can produce a 4 x 6" borderless photo in about 20 seconds. Combined with 5-individual ink tanks (4 dye-based and 1 pigment based black), and a print head that fires ink droplet sizes from 1 to 5 picoliters, the iP4700 delivers beautiful borderless photos up to 8.5 x 11", web pages, and business documents.
This stylish printer is also enabled for computer-free printing from a PictBridge-compatible digital camera, DV camcorder, or camera phone (with a compatible mobile phone and a USB cable). Adding even more creative versatility, the Auto Photo Fix II feature within the popular Easy-PhotoPrint EX software (included) enables images to be automatically categorized into one of five types: Portrait, Scenery, Night Scenery, Snapshot with Scenery, and Snapshot with Night Scenery, then applies optimal image and multi-zone exposure correction.
For those who want superior photo quality and built-in automatic duplex printing at home, the easy-to-use and environmental-friendly Pixma iP4700 is a great choice.

Bought the printer for home use, replacing a Canon i9100. While giving up the ability to print 13x19" size, the new iP4700 offers so many improvements - it is amazing how much the inkjets have advanced in six years. The print head alignment is automatic versus manual in the older i9100. The photo print quality is superb, better than the i9100. The text print quality is also notably better than the i9100, partly thanks to the higher resolution - and you need a magnifying glass to see the subtle difference compared to a laser printer. It is also much faster in both photos and text. Plus auto-duplex and other new features. The special B&H pricing made this buy a steal.

Great regular color printer. Two sided printing saves paper. Prints fast but the individual color cartridges have shrunk from my old Canon, but not the price.
From the box I could not get accurate color photo's. Called Canon and spent 2 hours with tech support while we tried many options. They sent me another unit. Red seems to predominate the color. I tried various manual settings and could not get a true color using Canon's Easy Photo Print or direct through Adobe Photo Shop.
I will have to look for another printer. My wife is an artist. I like to create reporductions of her work. This is not possible with this unit. Forget it for your color photos.

Ok, I realize that my review headline is extremely cheesy, but this inkjet printer is outstanding!! It says that it prints 4x6 photos in 20 seconds but it actually took less time than that. I havent gone any bigger than 4x6 so I couldnt tell you those times but I'm sure cant be too bad. Overall, the quality of the images are excellent. And with the PictBridge, you really can't go wrong with this printer :)

Just a few things you should know.
1. Of course the drivers on CD are out of date. No matter, you need to install them to actually install the printer. Getting new drivers and only running them will update the driver files, but will not complete the process of installing the printer.
2. The collapseable paper tray. You should know before you start that the paper tray must be stretched or lengthened to accept regular size paper, and that it will remain extended out front of the printer. It's best to install all the software and then view online manual, the "basic guide," to get a better feel for how it works. Those with prior experience may think this is rudimentary, but those that haven't dealt with personal size paper trays could be in for a rude awakening.
The initial awakening of the printer is a long process. Go out and have a coffee or paint the bedroom, then when you get back it may be done. Or may it may not.

I'm a semi-professional photographer, and want the sharpest photos with accurate colors that I can get. This printer does it for me surprisingly well, considering its cost. However, if I want something printed for a show, especially if I want it on larger than 8x10 or on canvas, I go to someone with a professional printer that uses archival ink. Canon says these inks last, but I don't think they can be called archival. I do not print many photos, fortunately, because the ink is ridiculously expensive. With this printer I can get a good idea how the final print will turn out.

I previously used a Canon iP3000 for over 5 years and loved it, so when it got tired I turned again to Canon. This was a breeze to set up and has worked even better than the older model.

We ordered this printer after doing extensive research. It was well reviewed by a number of online tech sites, and we use non-name brand cartridges - to save money - because there are no computer chips in the cartridges. It has good per pay costs too.[...]Worked great right out of the box.

We've owned this printer for only a couple of weeks, so I don't know yet how long the ink lasts. I print in "Fast" (draft) mode most of the time, & the print quality is quite good and amazingly fast. I printed an 8x10 photo in photo mode on photo paper, and it looks like it was professionally printed. Skin tones (caucasian) are perfect! My only quibble is that the shiny black finish attracts dust.... a very minor dislike compared to how much I love the printer otherwise!

Comments about Canon iP4700 PIXMA Inkjet Photo Printer:
I prefer Canon printers to almost anything else I have owned due to the quality, separate cartridges for each color, and being reasonably priced. As a professor, I often don´t utilize some of the features included on a higher-end printer, but DO need quality, speed and ease of use.
The printer is of average speed when using single-sided printing, but quite slow when using the duplex function. Of course, it is an advantage to not having to manually turn over and reinsert the pages.
The printer is not easy to initially set up, but once that issue is resolved, then very little has to be done for everyday use. It's worth mentioning that the top of the printer can remain closed and thus keep the functional parts of it clean.
There are no real negatives to this printer as it does exactly what you would expect of a budget printer. However, I am planning to upgrade to a printer that is designed for heavier use with a faster output.

mostly use for home photos. set up nice and easy. No usb wire included which was irratating, so, make sure you have one hand, Pictures clear, prints fast.. Only have it a month, so, cant let you know how long the ink lasts based on amount of picutres. Ink seems to be more reasonable than the usual HP larceny. FAST EASY dealing with B&H, VERRRRY pleased with them

Own several cannon printers,IP4500's and 6600d's. Bought this to replace printer. Canon has shrunk the ink cart size considerably, but still cost's the same. Printer cassette can ONLY USE PLAIN PAPER, not photo paper. This is NOT noted anywhere in the product info

I purchased this to replace an older ip4300 that was dying. After doing some research I found the ip4700 on sale at B&H for [$]. Even with the negatives items listed below, this is a very good printer for the price!Pros: Slightly smaller footprint than the ip4300, photo quality is excellent, print speed is good, paper handling is good (2 trays), the Canon software for picture printing is goodCons: Makes more noise than the ip4300, ink tanks are noticeably smaller, printer does NOT come with its own USB cable, 4x6 photo paper can only be used in the top tray (my other printer could use both trays)

I use this printer for photographs and photo-cards, printed on fine art matt paper. The printer was super easy to set up on my Mac Pro and performed fantastic out of the box. The only con that this printer has is the build quality, a little flimsy here and there and the small ink capacity.

Comments about Canon iP4700 PIXMA Inkjet Photo Printer:
My second Canon printer.[...], reasonably priced, reliable merchant. The Canon 4700 was quick and easy to setup, easy to use, two paper sources. Included several useful software applications, on-line manuals, and a screen print utility that allows selective areas of the screen to be selected for print. I especially like the duplex print option that automatically prints on both sides of paper. A little noisy on power up, but acceptable. Ink cartridges have been redesigned with metal contacts on each cartridge rather than having the contacts on the cartridge carrier. Cartridges are readily available and are less expensive than for my old Canon. Sleek looking cabinet. On-off switch is on the right side of the cabinet, for my computer layout, furthest away from the key board. Inconvenient, but acceptable.Prints crisp documents and excellent photographs.Very satisfied with my Canon iP 4700. If/when this Canon printer goes out, I will be shopping for another Canon printer.

As a self-employed designer / photographer, I found this inexpensive photo and business invoice printer just the right fit for me and my business without shelling out a ton of cash. It's color and speed are excellent, ink refill system is pretty inexpensive and quality of the photos are amazing, better than Snapfish or Shutterfly! Great printer for a great price, thanks Canon.
