With a player that's less than two inches thick, the Audiovox D1998PK is a miniature entertainment system you can take just about anywhere. In addition to watching DVD, DVD+/-R and DVD+/-RW discs you can listen to music and view JPEG pictures recorded on CD, CD-R, and CD-RW.
Plus you can watch DVDs created for any region (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and ALL) and you can watch both NTSC and PAL DVDs on the D1998PK. You can even output PAL DVDs to an NTSC TV set and NTSC DVDs to a PAL TV set.
The D1998PK features a 9" LCD screen that presents a bright, clear picture. For your listening pleasure there are built in stereo speakers and dual foldable stereo headphones.
The "PK" in the D1998PK is a "portable kit". This model takes the popular D1998 portable DVD player, adds foldable stereo headphones, an A/V cable and an ingenious carry bag that converts into a cradle that you can strap on to a car seatback so backseat passengers can enjoy all of the entertainment possibilities the D1998PK has to offer.
You can still place the D1998PK on the picnic table and relax on a chaise with your favorite snacks. You can control the set with its tiny credit-card sized remote.
You can also use the D1998PK as a DVD player alone when you plug it into a separate television. That's a great convenience when you want to watch DVDs in a room that has a TV but doesn't have a player.

- You don't have to sacrifice control for convenience. Parental Control enables you to limit children's viewing to appropriate content.

- Of course if a few people want to gather around the set that's no problem either. The stereo speakers allow you the flexibility of sharing your movies and music with more than just one other person.

- If you're got a room full of people to entertain you can use the D1998 like a conventional DVD-CD player by using an RCA-type AV cable (included) to connect the player to a larger TV or home theater system.

Bought 2 of these players to keep the kids pacified on long road trips. Players play well and units seem decently constructed, but the headphones are pretty cheaply made and broke within 15 seconds of being in the hands of my 5 year old.
Integrated carry case / backseat hanging display case is poorly conceived and just asking for trouble -- I'm waiting for one of my kids to grab the case and have the unit fall out onto the cement (which is 3 feet away when stepping out of my Ford E-350 van).
Buy the replacement policy.

The unit came with a weak battery. Could only charge it once. So after just two weeks the (new?) unit does not charge at all! Found on Audiovox website:"Battery has to be recharged every two months or it will become weak and will not recharge". How long it has been in the store since was last charged?[...] I'm sending at my own expense for warranty repair to audiovox. It was originally intended for an air trip with kids, now we have to go without entertainment. Very disappointed!
