The Epson PowerLite 8100 Home Cinema Projector is engineered with one purpose: putting high quality images on the screen.

The heart of the system is a 3LCD optical engine which harnesses 1800 ISO lumens at a crisp contrast ratio of a 36,000:1 backed by a native resolution of 1920 by 1080.  The Fujinon 2.1x zoom lens, a brand favored by cinematographers, fulfills the promise of these specs with brilliant screen images up to 1080p.

A high-speed dual-layer auto iris function adjusts light output up to 60 times per second based on the gamma and black/white levels of your projected content, yielding perfectly adjusted images and the deepest blacks. Unlike other projectors, the PowerLite 8100 runs at a whisper quiet 28dB, ensuring that you won't be distracted from the on-screen action while the 4000 hour lamp life provides further peace of mind and greater enjoyment.

The 8100's seven remote-selectable color modes ensure that the 8100's output matches your unique viewing environment. Two HDMI v1.3 ports accommodate gaming consoles and DVD or Blu-ray players, while the 10-bit panel provides smooth rendition of colors. An energy-efficient E-TORL lamp completes the picture.

3-chip Optical Engine
3LCD technology goes far beyond ordinary color. "Clear," "rich" and "vibrant" barely begin to describe the incredible depth and brilliance it delivers. The impact is stunning. It's an astonishing level of realism you never thought. 3LCD technology offers extraordinary detail.

Moving up to 1080p is nice, although I'm a bit of a purist so I wonder if DLPs would look sharper. Mine has what looks to be a standard LCD panel misalignment, so up close you see a red dot above a black dot, which is above a green dot. I am going to enjoy it, but my lcd tv looks far better even though it's only 42". I don't like the remote as much as my old sanyo z-4.

Comments about Epson PowerLite 8100 Home Cinema Projector:

I run a business screening indie films in Phoenix AZ,and needed a projector that could work in low-light but also with moderate ambient light situations. I like the ability to choose through various levels of brightness depending on the situation, and really love the tilting lens for correcting keystone and placement.

This is not a small projector. For some who'd want portability, this may not be a favorite, but I really wanted the HDMI 1080p capacity and having it 3 chip seems to make things that much snappier.

Comments about Epson PowerLite 8100 Home Cinema Projector:

We use this projector to mainly watch movies in the evening. We did not mount our projector. It is connected to a computer rather than a DVD/BR player.

                Good:
                1. Bright. Won't be great but it's possible to watch movies in daylight.
                2. Quiet. We only used in eco mode so far. (This was OK for sports during a day.)
                3. Quality/Price. It is said to match in picture quality other more expensive models. Plus lamp life is rated to last 4000hours as opposed to 2500-3000 for other models.

                Bad:
                1. Large. If you are used to your office multimedia projector then you'll be surprised. It is still light enough to be taken from one room to another.
                2. Zoom. We only use it at maximum zoom. At 1:1 picture is very small. So, zoom ability is probably irrelevant unless you like to watch movies on a less than 40" screen.

                Other thoughts:
                - If you watch primarily DVDs then buying not a full HD projector makes a lot of sense: smaller, cheaper, same picture quality. (Bluerays would also probably look not terrible unless you are obsessed about picture quality.)

Comments about Epson PowerLite 8100 Home Cinema Projector:

I primarily use this projector to watch Blu-Ray movies and some OTA TV shows and sports. Although I did a lot of research before buying, this was my first projector purchase, and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from a lower priced 1080p projector. But, so far I am very impressed with the image quality. It is projected onto a 120" screen with seats positioned about 15' from the screen. At this distance, it looks nearly perfect. At 1600 lumens, there is plenty of brightness, even in "Eco Mode." Looks a bit washed out in the daylight coming into my living room, but the projector's "Dynamic Mode" is enough to make the image quality reasonably strong.

It's been 5 years since I bought my first video home projector, an InFocus LP70+, and I had no idea how much better they are now for the same price ($1500 - $100 rebate). I did my homework and decided on the Epson 8100. From the moment I turned it on, my eyes were glued to the screen. Not only was it possible now to view it in a sunlit living room, the colors were fantastic! The LP70+ was never a match for the brightness and colors of the TV in the same room, but the 8100 matched it in both! Plus, there are simple settings for night time that allow you to obtain darker backgounds for even richer colors. Add the fact that the picture can be projected in high definition (1080i) up to 10' diagonal without noticable loss in brightness or color saturation, and you can see why I'm totally amazed. Video projectors are no longer a compromise between projection size, luminosity and color. The Epson 8100 provides all three as well as easy set up and adjustment features. Take the plunge - you won't be sorry.

Great product for the price. Installed it along with a 92" screen and with digital cable the resolution is rich and the color spectrum is awesome. The setup instructions are clear and easy to follow. I would highly recommend this product to family/friends.

Comments about Epson PowerLite 8100 Home Cinema Projector:

I bought the Epson PLH 8100 to replace a Sharp X30 DLP that I use in my home theater. This projector was a huge improvement in every way. The colors are rich and vibrant with very good detail and contrast. And there is NO RAINBOW EFFCT! I was also impressed with the lack of screen door effect and range of image shift which eliminates the need for a keystone adjustment option (which this model lacks). And the light output in it's brightest mode is exceptional. The only complaints that I can muster are that the convergence of the red LCD panel is slighty off on one edge of the projected image and the color balance of grey is tilted toward green (Which I think I did a pretty good job of correcting using my AVIA setup DVD). The last thing that I think needs to be said is that you definitely will only want to watch HD program material on this projector (analog looks TOO SOFT on a 100" screen)! Oh! I almost forgot. I had to set the HDMI output on my Panasonic DMP BD60 to 1080i in order to see a picture even though it does allow me to set the resolution of my homebrew HTPC to 1920x1080P! I need to investigate this further. But that is still a minor quible for such a fine product at this price point. PS: I got this in time to enjoy the Super Bowl with some freinds and family and the all said it felt like they were there.

Bought to replace an older Epson model that was a 1080i. Boy have costs dropped in 5 years. This projector is brighter and has a sharper picture when viewing sources like the XBox 360 that can support 1080p. Noticible difference fromt the older model. Only problem was that the ceiling mounting holes were different from the previous model.
