I'm a klutz and I tend to drop things mainly my external Harddrives I went through 4 in the past year, I heard of the Mini G Drive by G-Tech and looked them up, made the purchase from B&H and I've dropped, Banged and Threw across the room (dont try this at home) and was still able to connect and access all my information. I purchased 3 just in-case but still only using 1.

I bought the 500GB 7200rpm version for the sole purpose of editing video on my MacBook Pro. Come to find out, you cannot connect a firewire camera to these mini drives! Connecting a camera unmounts the drive. G-tech claims they know this, but that the other firewire port is ONLY for connecting another hard drive. The problem is, that ALL new iMac's and MacBook Pro's have ONE firewire port. In other words, it's impossible to use this as a firewire connected scratch disk/capture drive. I asked them if I could trade this drive for a regular G-Drive which they said "has a different chipset and doesn't have this problem". They said no. I use the same camera daisy chained off my Drobo without any problems.

Died after 3 small data transfers. Gave off an odor of burning plastic. G-Tech is a shadow of its former self. Moving on to other drive manufacturers.

I recently purchased a g-drive mini to backup all of my files at work. What a lifesaver. I took it along with me on a recent business trip and it was like having my desktop computer with me at all times...even on the airplane! It's fast, easy to use, and comes with multiple connectivity options.

These is a great little hard drive. Perfect size and works really well. Ideal for Mac users and people that deal with video. My only complaint is that the new firewire 800 cables they send out with the drive can be easily unplugged. This is minor as you could get a different cable or something like that. What's important is the drive is durable and most importantly reliable. I have never had a g tech fail on me and because of that I will only buy g techs for work use.

Personally, I have not used the drive in a long-term or project setting, but my media team depends on them every day for their video and photo projects. This is, to my understanding, the best and most dependable drive for professional backup and storage.

This is a good, compact harddrive. Difficult to format with a PC. Required a call to customer service. Would have been easier with a mac.

Buying an external hard drive is usually a shot in the dark with much higher failure rates than internal ones. This one works for a week now, so I am pleased.
Other than that it has everything I need. Firewire 800, USB 2... all is good.

I purchased this particular unit for backing up my MacBook Pro. If you're a Mac user, these work right out of the box. Plug it in, no worries about power, point Time Machine to it, and you're done.

I liked this hard drive so much, that I purchased two more drives. The drives have two 800 FireWire ports, which you can daisy chain together. These drives a so quite and fast. I transferred 20000 photos in a couple of hours. I would recommend g drive to everyone.

I use the G-Drive portable 500GB drive to backup photo, video, music, and documents using firewire 800 for Mac.
I love the size and styling of the G-Drive, and the portability is great. I initially got this drive because all professional production companies that I've worked for have either used the G-Tech drives or LaCie drives; as they are supposed to be the most reliable. So far the drive has worked super-fast and efficiently.
I haven't found any problems with the drive yet, and I hope not to in the future!

I use this in place of a much larger HD. I love the fact that it just plugs in to the computer. Easy to take from one place to another. Carrying case is strong and well put together for good protection.

This drive was recommended to me by a photographer friend. I bought two as second and third back-ups for my photos. I am not a technologically comfortable person, but this drive is already set up to be used with a Mac, so I didn't have to do any formatting (or anything), really; you connect your other drive to the G-Drive, connect both of them to the computer through the G-Drive, and turn on the 'on' switch. Comes in a travel case and with several different types of cables. I haven't had them long enough to speak personally of the reliability, but the friend who recommended this drive says he's never had a problem with any of the G-Drive minis he's bought!

I read a lot of reviews that these drives have a high rate of failure and malfunction but I could not beleive that it could be so as they have been selling loads of them at the Apple store. To my suprise I could not get it to backup my drive even after 5 attempts. Am calling BH for an RMA on Monday. Buy another product.

I have a great deal of respect for G drives.I have used them for some time and really like them, however this particular drive refused to be installed on my E Machines netbook even though it was advertised to be compatible with both Windows and Mac.But I wont let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch.I will continue to use G drives.

I use this as a secondary drive for my Mac Book Pro and it's my 5th G-Technology drive. I've sold or recommended these drives to several clients and they are all extremely happy with theirs as well. G-Technology products are simply the best out there.
