No matter where you're listening the radio can be placed on a counter or other flat surface. And, of course it can also be hung from a shower head or other fixture, using the included strap. The radio also features a non-slip grip design that makes it easy to handle when you're hands are wet.
Aside from its aesthetic qualities, the ICF-S79W also provides you with useful control and listening features. You'll benefit from one touch weather band access, in addition to the AM/FM bands, and, 20 station presets. And when it comes to tuning, the quartz synthesized tuner ensures drift-free precision. A built-in clock keeps you apprised of the time, while count down and auto shutoff timers keep you on task. Everything comes together with the conveniently placed one-finger operable controls.

I bought this radio because I like to listen to NPR in the morning to wake myself up. It's easy to use and it sounds great. I don't have a light above my shower and the shower curtain blocks out a lot of light, so the clock is a little bit difficult to read, but it's nice to have. The one thing that bothers me about this radio is that is doesn't auto tune to channels with the best reception. Other than that it's great.

Needed a new shower radio. The last one I could only get a few channels and the sound was only OK for the first hour or two of new batteries and then it was terrible. This Sony sounds great in the shower, it was easy to set up and easy to use. I really like having preset stations for FM, AM and the weather and reception is very good. A few weeks into the same set of batteries and going strong. Don't expect it to replace the sound system for your house but in the shower it does ROCK!

This radio has good reception, surprisingly good sound, and easy operation. This is the second one I have purchased, as it is far better than anything else on the market, especially at this price. The only drawback is that it uses C cells fairly quickly. A redesign to use D cells would be an improvement without adding significantly to its size.

This digital tuner w/ presets is what makes this product far superior to all other shower radios. Waterproofing and construction is excellent and I am not afraid to change volume or stations with soaking wet hands or other appendages.
Con: Batteries
BatLife is low if you consistenly listen at high volumes. Also, 3 C size batteries. I have yet to find a 3 pack of batteries, so always storing extras in my bathroom.

I needed a new bathroom radio as my last SONY - maybe 25 years old - finally bit the dust. This has presets which mean I don't have to try to remember which station is on which frequency. And a clock too. A useful upgrade. Hope I get another 25 years, although with today's quality manufacturing, I doubt it.

My daughter had been using an old portable radio of mine and blasting it so she could hear it while showering. I remembered that I had been given a shower radio many years ago, but the sound quality was poor. I checked ratings for currently available shower radios and this was listing as the best. The clarity of the sound is amazing; far superior to my old one. I love that you can program stations. My daughter is thrilled and has even left 2 buttons that she programmed for me. I would definitely recommend this product.

I use it during shower and on breakfast table. It is great to have a timer to control time in shower... All commands except volume are pushbuttons, which help keep it water resistant.. Note that there is a wire antenna hidden in battery compartment, which may improve FM tuning if needed, because some stations may get noisy signal.

Compact and attractive, the sound is good and reception also. Push buttons on top are easy to use with one finger, but if the radio is hanging by the (provided) strap, it can be a little dicey to get enough pressure to turn it off/on. Had a smaller, battery-eating, crummy one before this - to me, this is worth the extra dough.

This portable Sony radio is great for people like me who like to listen to sports or talk radio as they run from room to room in the usual course of the day. You don't miss a thing as the ease of carrying the radio lets you whip it into the bathroom and then to the closet as you get dressed.
The very smooth and easy presets allow for quickly going from one show to another keeping up with both.
I've always been impressed with the basic high quality reception and sound
while more expensive radios don't do as well.
Running on three C batteries, it operates for a long time without a battery change. The only feature that could be improved is the tendency for the
somewhat slippery case to slip from your hands and hit the floor with batteries flying and the back flap door having been forced off. This doesn't happen frequently to me, but often enough to warrant a comment.
I've had many of these Sony radios for years and find they suit my life style perfectly.
