Sony's compact digital book, the PRS300RC Reader Pocket Edition (Rose) features a 5 inch, paper-like display that delivers an easy-on-the-eyes reading experience. In addition to the natural reading surface, the Reader also has adjustable font sizes, quick page turning, and a high contrast ratio, which makes reading possible even in direct sunlight. Side-button navigation also ensures seamless reading with right and left-hand side page advance buttons.
Leave the dusty library at home; with 512MB of onboard memory there's enough space to store up to 350 books on your Reader at once. Sony also gave this digital book compatibility with both PC and Mac. Both systems support the easy to use eBook Library 3.0 software for managing your book collection. Supported formats include the industry standards, ePub and PDF.
On a full charge the Pocket Edition will last for up to two weeks of reading (or 7,500 continuous page turns). Charging, and transfer of eBooks, is done through your computer's USB port with the included USB cable.

Comments about Sony PRS300RC Reader Pocket Edition (Rose):
This is my third Sony eReader. I love the expanded memory and the bright rose color. It took me a day or so to get used to the smaller pocket edition size, but now, I really like the smaller size as it fits in my purse and/or briefcase much easier. The one disappointment, I miss the buttons to turn the page on both sides of the device rather than the center, large button.

I was looking for a perfect gift for Christmas for my elderly mother and this was it! I was concerned that she would have difficulty navigating the menus since she is 86 and not a tech-savvy person, but she learned how to use it in minutes and has read 3 books on it since Christmas!

Pretty handy gadget for my daughter who loves to read. I wish it had a light, so she could read it at night. Maybe it does & we just haven't discovered it yet. There is something to be said for reading directions!

Comments about Sony PRS300RC Reader Pocket Edition (Rose):
I bought the Sony Pocket reader because I wanted a new gadget to play with but it has really surpassed my expectations.
I've mostly been using it to read classic literature in ePub format (which can be downloaded free from sites like Project Gutenberg) and research papers and technical documents (usually PDFs).
I haven't used the Sony Software that came with it; instead I've been using Calibre (an open source eBook library software which supports the Sony Reader) which has made it easy to convert the public domain books and documents from work into suitable formats for viewing on the reader.
The eInk screen is clear and easy on the eyes in low light and direct sun, and the battery life has been amazing. When I'm reading, I barely notice that the reader is not a real book, except that it's a little heavier than your average paperback.
Compared to other eBook readers, I think the Sony Pocket Reader has a very stylish appearance (and I love the rose/burgandy colour!)
I thought that the 5" screen might be a little small, but on the small and medium text size it isn't a problem (I tend to avoid the large size text through).
When I first started using it, the start up and page turns seemed very slow, but either it's sped up or I've adjusted because I hardly notice them now.
The PDFs sometimes have layout issues due to the small screen size, but I expected this, and it doesn't bother me too much - I still find the documents to be quite readable.
The biggest con has been my lack of sleep since I got the Reader: I have barely been able to put it down, and I'm staying up far too late each night reading!

Comments about Sony PRS300RC Reader Pocket Edition (Rose):
I love my pocket ebook. I use this book a lot for traveling and just reading in bed. I like to read on my side and this book makes that possible. No more fighting to keep my book on the right page, it is always there.
I am a woman and have small hands and this one fits in one hand. It holds up to 350 books, which is great for traveling, especially if you are like me and read 5 books per week during a beach vacation - that's a lot less baggage to carry with you. I love all the paper that is saved printing books.
I do wish I could load pictures onto this one, like you can with the larger versions. I also wish you could lend out books to others in a simple way. You can borrow books from others, but it isn't easy to do.
Overall, the positives of this book, far outweigh the negatives and would purchase this for anyone in my family that travels or just likes not having to fight with holding a book open and cramping your hand.
