The PRS600 Sony Reader Touch Edition (Red) is a svelte 6 inch touchscreen digital reading system that holds up to 350 books at once; and even more when the expansion card slots are utilized. Page turning is a breeze with the touch of your finger and highlighting and annotation is made simple with the included stylus. You'll also benefit from the easy-to-read E Ink Vizplex screen technology which looks more like a paper display and is readable even in direct sunlight.
A single charge, using the included USB cable (can be charged via optional AC adapter), powers the Reader for up to 7,500 page turns (BBeB Book). When it's time to recharge or transfer eBooks, the included USB 2.0 cable allows for both. Formats supported by the Reader Touch Edition include the industry standard formats of ePub and PDF. Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Digital Editions are all also compatible. The Reader also supports unsecured MP3 and AAC audio files for playback.
Other features include a built-in Oxford American English Dictionary, adjustable font sizes, and quick page turning for reading at a natural pace. And last but not least, Mac and PC compatibility make the Reader a solid choice for anyone looking to build a digital library that can go anywhere they go.

Comments about Sony PRS600 Reader Touch Edition (Red):
I really like this ebook reader. It is light, easy to use and if you want you can increase the memory
What I like least is the transition from one page to another, but after reading some pages you get use to it.

Comments about Sony PRS600 Reader Touch Edition (Red):
I am from Russia and I use this reader to read english books and newspapers.
The construction of the book is very solid, I am like how it lays in my palms.
As a drawback I can say that there are some glares on touchscreen and image is quite faded. And about dictionary - when some word is not found it's impossible to change it and find another form of the word, instead of this you should find another word and then delete it and find that word you actually want to find.

Comments about Sony PRS600 Reader Touch Edition (Red):
I wanted a reader for a long time, but waited and waited and waited, until I couldn't wait no more. I combed the internet for the best one (although best one of course doesn't exist), read reviews, tests, forums,... I chose prs600 because its cheaper than Bebook. And it is more open than Kindle (and bebook) (which I found strange, because Sony isn't exactly famous for being open, but...)
eh, back to the gadget. it is well built. feels nice in the hand. there is quite a lot of glare because of the touchscreen, but it is manegable (would prefer the "non-glarness" and the contrast of non-touchsrceen though).
I wish in time ebooks will be easyer to find and that the sony(and others)will read amazon(and others) format. And most important - that ebooks will get cheaper (for now its usually cheaper to buy real books!?!)
Overall ebooks are slowly getting where they can be very usefull and comfortable. But (sadly?) I think that Amazon is winning the race (kindle is great - but a bit bigger and i don't like it being so closedformat - but...)
my partner also uses it too read&correct the students essays...

I bought this for my wife and she loves it. She wanted to be able to downloaded free protected ebooks from the local library website and the Sony Touch does it easily. Loading the software was no problem on both an Apple and Windows computer. The unit's construction is first class and not cheesy like some of the other brands. I highly recommend this product.

Comments about Sony PRS600 Reader Touch Edition (Red):
I looked at several e-readers before buying this one, and I am glad I did my homework. Not only is it very user-friendly, but I am able to download e-books from multiple sources, including free downloads from my local library. I also love the weight of in my hands - it's feather-light. I did have to call tech-support to get directions for "calibrating" the e-reader when I first got it (use the stylus to click on the "X" five times if you get a calibration error). There is no manual that comes with it, other than a "quick start" guide, which neglected to tell me how to do this. Other than that, the only thing I can find fault with is the battery life, which is not even close to what is advertised. I am a heavy reader and have to charge the e-reader every 5 days or so, but this is a minor thing in my opinion. Overall, my experience has been terrific so far, and I strongly recommend this reader.

Comments about Sony PRS600 Reader Touch Edition (Red):
I bought it for its versatility, slim design and light weight. It does a number of things well that Kindle does not. Most important to me: I don't need to OWN every book I read and the Sony can rent e-books from the New York Public Library--Kindle can't.
You can also play audio, write notes with either the virtual keyboard or use the stylus for handwriting and drawing. Supports a number of popular formats--including Word, so you can read your own documents. Text is scalable (five different sizes) and you can rotate it sideways if that's more comfortable (I do this occasionally). Plus, a dictionary automatically provides definitions for highlighted words.
Tons of classics are available for free download at various sites. (But beware Google-scanned books. Sometimes words with foreign characters come out wonky, illustrated books don't always work well, and some titles are not what they are supposed to be. I downloaded a Google version of Hugo's "Notre Dame de Paris" and it was actually "Les Miserables!")
I recommend the device with one caveat. The screen contrast could be MUCH better, and there is sometimes a little reflected glare. Otherwise, it's well worth the money and has definite advantages over Kindle, IMO.

I use this Sony Ereader Touch Edition to read books that I have downloaded from the internet. It is a stylish classy unit that is well made. Feels solid. Very simple to use and the touch screen responds quickly. The user download program was easy to install and to use. I did a lot of researching before deciding on this brand and I am certain that I purchased the best one on the market.

I LOVE my Sony reader! Its so easy and straight forward to use, its light but feels really strong and sturdy. Going from using an iphone to the reader is made so simple because of the touch screen. I did a lot of research before I bought the Sony, and I am glad I did, because there are many different types or readers that just aren't as versatile or good value as the Sony.

I was in the market for a reliable ereader and did my homework. After all of it, being in South Africa, i narrowed it down to the Kindle and Sony Ereader. The Sony one came out ahead especially being able to read google epub documents. Touchscreen along with notes and audio capabilities made it even better.Lastly, the price drop at [$] made it a no brainer. As for usage, it's working great. Arabic script also renders clearly (i have a pdf copy of the Quran loaded and it display 100%)

Convenience and ease of use in a top quality product. I love my new Sony Reader PRS-600. The controls are easy to use and the in built dictionary used a number of times. Quick to upload books into. Has a great battery life - one charge easily lasts me one week of reading in the evenings and mornings. No more trying to juggle books and folding down corners on pages as a bookmark.

Comments about Sony PRS600 Reader Touch Edition (Red):
I recently received my sony touch e-reader after doing months of research on the best one to purchase. I went with Sony because of the ability to download from different sites including the library. So far I love it. My only gripe is the initial charge takes forever and I found that I can't charge using the USB port and a wall plug, so I had to go buy an additional adapter.

Japan has written.
In Japan, because there is no where to buy, I purchased from this store.
EPub is used primarily in the form. 「ChainLP Software」 conversion uses.
Is slow, and does not correspond to the Japanese, complaints are generally happy there.

This was a perfect gift for me. Books are easy to download and quite a few are free. I plan to join the local library so I can download from there, as well. I can download pix and music. The only thing I would improve would be the glare. However, I never have a problem repositioning it a bit to get rid of the glare.

The Sony PRS600 (Touch Edition) eReader is a good eBook reader that allows you to make notes on the documents you are currently reading. It also includes audio playback and a built-in dictionary.
Strengths:
- Good page loading speed.
- Support for various document formats.
- Hability to put marks and write notes on documents.
- Easy to use.
Weaknesses:
- Some PDF images/tables are not accurately displayed.
- There is a little glare on the screen, easily avoidable by changing reading angle.
- Battery duration is good, although not as good as announced (drained to half after three days of heavy reading). Audio playback consumes a lot more.
- Although cheaper, it may face competition by the iPad due to benefit/price ratio. Not quite the same use, though.

Comments about Sony PRS600 Reader Touch Edition (Red):
It's a nice compact, light-weighted device, perfect e-paper display - I didn't expect such brightness and contrast, meanwhile it does not make your eyes weary.
users friendly interface - no need to read the manual!
recognises PDF, but does not recognise Word documents (though Sony claims it should)
their genuine e-book format works really great!
also good for listening to music and viewing pictures.

Comments about Sony PRS600 Reader Touch Edition (Red):
In a burgeoning market of ebook readers, I had to decide whether to plunge into the rising tide of products or wait to see what another year would bring in terms of technological advances. I took the plunge. As a graduate research student, I need to read a lot of articles. Online journals give great access to articles, but I struggle to concentrate on reading from a computer while I have notices coming up on the screen about incoming emails and twitter updates. Considering the majority of my articles are available for download in PDF format, I decided that a dedicated reading device would help me. When reading scholarly writing I like to engage with the physical text as much as possible: underlining, circling, annotating. I chose the Sony Reader Touch Edition because it seemed to simulate this experience better than other readers on the market. I knew of the limitations regarding PDFs and screen size, images, etc. This has not proven to be a problem for me. Most articles published today are created from the source documents and are not simply image scans of hard-copy journals. This means that I can alter the text size, highlight, look-up dictionary definitions, as much as I like. When I cleared the online transaction for the purchase of the reader, I had imagined that the annotation process would be fairly arduous. I thought it would involve many button presses and saves to make each mark on the page. I was wrong. Once the note taking mode is open it stays open until you close it. You can read through a whole article, underlining, marking, etc., without leaving the note mode. I have been very impressed with how easy notes are to find once made. Every note is added to a database, you can skip straight to the articles and pages that you have marked up. The reader is a good compact size that I can easily carry with me most places. I have found myself taking it everywhere with me, which means that I am never without something to read. Although the Daily Edition would no doubt make easier work of image-based PDFs, its size would keep me from considering it. There are many fantastic ebook stores out there which are actually quite competitive with [...]pricing and stock. The fact that Sony's Reader supports such a large amount of file formats is a boon. I did not realise how many public domain works I wanted to read until I had a look through those available. Classic works of poetry, philosophy, and literature are all available at no cost. I am now able to read articles without being distracted by the internet. My hardcopy books do not have a wifi connection and I do not miss one in this device.I do have some reservations regarding the reader. Sony advertise compatibility with Microsoft Word documents. This is not quite true. The PC Reader Library software shipped with the reader converts Word documents to RTF format, which is compatible with the Reader. And this only if Microsoft Word is installed on your computer. I have not been able to get this feature to work on my iMac, although this restriction is not noted in the documentation. I had imagined that I might be able to read Word documents directly on the device. A licencing deal with Microsoft coupled with a firmware upgrade would make this possible. I will not, however, be holding my breath. Another reservation regards the Sony eBook Store. The Sony store is not available to most international users. As an importer, I have had to shop around for any books I wanted to buy. As I said earlier, there are many great ebook stores out there. However, it is hard not to envy the simplicity of a large centralised storefront like that of [...]. I imagine that we will see the market landscape of ebook stores changing dramatically in the next year or so which may render this reservation moot.Overall I would (and have) recommend this product over others – such as the Kindle – for researchers and other readers. Nonetheless, those who are uncertain or who do not have a pressing need for a device such as this may wish to see what the next 12 months brings to the market.
