Sony's D-EJ011 CD Walkman Portable CD Player plays back your favorite CD-R/RW discs. The D-EJ011 features Sony's Skip-Free G-Protection for quick recovery from horizontal and vertical shocks, 8 playback modes, and a bookmark playback function. Digital Mega Bass Sound technology fills out your music with deep bass tones and low harmonic distortion. There's also an Automatic Volume Limiter System that keeps output volume levels steady for clean audio. With two 'AA' alkaline batteries the Walkman lasts for up to 16 hours of playback.

I don't listen to/use music CDs anymore, but I'm taking a course that requires one to listen to instructional CDs. Since I want to relax on the sofa when listening to them (instead of sitting at the computer) and wear headphones to listen in privacy/at any time of day/keep out distractions (instead of using the DVD player), I decided to get a portable CD player. (I have an old one, but it is packed away somewhere and I can't find it.)
This product fits my needs. It works well. I haven't tried listening to music on it to really hear the difference in the sound modes, but I can hear a subtle difference in them with the spoken voice.
I use eneloop batteries (rechargable batteries that don't really lose their charge while sitting around unused) with this player, so the battery power it uses isn't an issue for me.

I use the Walkman for playing my cds...do that as much as listening to them on our larger cd playing system. I like the Walkman because I know from having owned one before, that batteries last a long time in it. (I had another brand once, and it seemed to use so much electricity to play the cds.)
One thing that I find frustrating is the latch to open the lid. Having a button set up would be easier.

I listen to my own customized cds. That`s wonderful, when you don`t have to worry with skipping tracks. This cd player is the last of the best out there. All the focus is on iPods. This product produces very good sound, as the other reviewer stated. CD fan for life. Get eneloop batteries and you`re set.
