I bought the Sony CD Walkman instead of a dedicated MP3 player because I didn't want the hassle of constantly having to charge the battery, and worry about limited battery life.
I have had the Sony Walkman for about two weeks now, and I use it primarily to listen to audiobooks.
I am very satisfied with the sound quality when playing MP3 CD-R disks that I have burned on my Mac (both audiobook and music files) and commercial music CDs. The range of sound settings is sufficient for my use. I use the megabass setting when listening to music, and find the sound to be full and rich. For audiobooks, I use the first default sound setting, without any added bass.
I also bought the AC-E45A AC Adapter, and it works perfectly. As long as I keep two AA batteries in the Sony, I don't have to leave it plugged in and the resume function works great. It goes back to where I left off in the audiobook. I haven't used the bookmark feature, and really don't need to with the resume function.
I've only listened to the FM radio for a short time, but it seems adequate.
I like the sleek design of the unit and the rich silver color. The unit is very lightweight. The controls are easy to use. The only complaint I have is that the slider that opens the unit could have been designed better. It is harder to open the unit than it should be. Also the print on the instruction sheet is ridiculously small. I found it helpful to download the instruction sheet from the internet and view it on my computer screen, where I can enlarge the print.
I don't use the unit while jogging or exercising. It is stationary when I listen to it.
So far, I'm very happy with the unit and highly recommend it.

Comments about Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman MP3 w/FM Tuner:
I bought this player based on previous reviews that stated use for audio books. It has a memory when engaged and turned off it will remember where you left off on the audio book, which was the feature I was looking for. I've only had it for a few weeks and so far so good.I don't use the remote but it fits in my pocket and goes where I go. So if you listen to mp3 audio books this walkman is great.

Comments about Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman MP3 w/FM Tuner:
Sound is fine on this, and it seems steady as I walk. Not the most intuitive to operate (I know, Iknow--I could read the directions...)
I do wish Sony still made the sports models that were bright yellow and seemed much sturdier than this one, though.

Comments about Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman MP3 w/FM Tuner:
Nice player with simple controls. Good skip control. This player withstands lots of bouncing and bumping without losing track of the disk.
Has a remote, but the remote doesn't have a clip so it just dangles loose. It needs something to clip the remote onto your clothing so you can quickly find it. Otherwise, the weight of the remote tugs on your earbuds.
Easily fixed on your own, which solves the biggest problem this player has.

I use the Walkman to play books on disc while I work on an elliptical exerciser. I have a set of 4 rechargeable AAs so that two are in the Walkman and two are fully charged. I really like the remote control that plugs into the ear buds.

Use this product to play praise & worship music.
Have had a steady performance out of the sony brand portable CD players including this one so far. Other brands have had skip problems (not good for praise & worship :)
Note: Has no line out - use headphone out.
One negative is no power adapter included.

Comments about Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman MP3 w/FM Tuner:
Exceptional studio sound quality, digital Mega Bass sound system, solid build quality, attractive appearance, shuffle, repeat, resume, and bookmark program play modes. Just another excellent product from Sony. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-NF340 is without question the absolute best portable CD player that Sony offers. This portable player offers an extensive feature set. Those features include a 1-bit D/A converter for outstanding sound, 3.5mm headphone output jack, skip-free electronic shock protection, digital volume control, LCD display, battery level indicator, automatic shut-off, hold switch, radio on, radio off, display, play mode controls, FM tuner, FM mono/local selection setting for clear reception, FM headphones cord antenna, 40 FM station presets, MP3 CD playback, CD-R/RW playback, AMS music search sensor, remote controller, 5 direction CD control key, play, pause, stop, forward skip, and reverse skip CD transport controls. The Sony Walkman CD Player also utilizes a two position on/off user selectable Automatic Volume Limiter System (AVLS) volume distortion reduction system. All of my CD's sound fantastic on this portable with clear vocals, detailed midrange, and well defined bass performance. The FM tuner receives my favorite stations with accurate, drift-free reception day or night. I have not been able to make this Sony Walkman CD player skip during playback under any circumstances with the shock protection enabled or disabled. This Sony Walkman CD player D-NF340 is a great companion for the morning exercise routine, walks in the park, outings at the beach, listening to audio books, late night at home private listening sessions, or when you're sitting poolside taking a sip from that refreshing cool glass of lemonade. In order to achieve audiophile quality sound reproduction from this CD player, you should disable the electronic shock protection system during non-active use. The supplied ear bud headphones offer average sound quality. However, the audio playback of this portable can be improved upon dramatically in my experience with an upgrade to the Sony Extra Bass MDR-XB500 headphones. These Extra Bass headphones produce copious amounts of detailed dynamic bass when combined with the playback precision of the Sony D-NF340 Walkman CD Player. The Sony Walkman is powered by 2 AA batteries or can be powered with an optional AC-E45A AC power adapter. Unfortunately, the Sony Walkman CD player D-NF340 does not offer an AM tuner for enjoyment of news, talk, weather, and sports programs. Good Luck. Enjoy.

Comments about Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman MP3 w/FM Tuner:
I have used this player extensively for about three months. I listen at the Dog Park to MP3 CD-ROMs that I have burned on my computer - about a half hour four or five times a week. It has been dropped twice on hard surfaces, and a few more times on carpets or grass (I'm a klutz). Fortunately it landed flat on it's back on the hard surfaces. No breakage or problems of any kind from the drops.
The unit has a feature that was not advertised, but I was really hoping for: the ability to track backwards and forwards to find a specific place. For some reason the backward tracking is fast, about 10 seconds per jump, and the forward tracking is slow, about 2 seconds per jump. I guess this was to give you both fast and slow tracking without having a complicated double button for each direction.
The battery life is astoundingly good -- about 8 to 10 hours on two AA batteries - phenomenal in my experience, and a very pleasant surprise.
The readouts are clear and informative, including the name of the MP3 file you are playing, current track time, and total countdown time. You must cycle through the display with a button to get all the information.
Playback quality is good -- limited mostly by the quality of the earphones, as it usually is with portable audio.
I have never experienced a skip or mistracking. I usually keep the unit in my jacket pocket while walking, so it gets bounced around somewhat, but I am not a jogger.
You're not going to blowout your eardrums even at maximum levels. I usually have to listen at level 27 out of 30. This is not a problem as far as I'm concerned, but some people might be disappointed with the max volume.
The packaging has a place for an AC adapter, but that is not advertised as included in this specific model. The packaging is probably common to other models sent to other countries where the AC adapter is included.
I use better earphones than the buds given so I cannot comment on the ear buds. I dislike ear buds intensely.
Overall, I am completely satisfied and would buy the same unit again.

This is a beautiful music player that plays beautiful music. All the features and capabilities of this player can't be mentioned in a single review. Very attractive silver color. You can customize this player according to your preferences. Such as mega bass 1&2, local fm radio or distant. FM reception on mine is exceptional. Once you customize this player, it is just like your own little studio. The player can be inside a case, and you can switch from the radio, turn on/off, skip tracks, replay without ever touching the player, by simply using the included wired remote. This is a priceless feature. The lcd display, displays everything about a mp3 music cd or mp3 audiobook on cd. I love this more than my Zune. If you all love music, you'll love and treasure a machine like this. At present, it's the best still being made and sold. The sound, using the right settings can seem unbelievable. But upgrading your earbuds is a must. This is one purchase no one will regret.

Comments about Sony D-NF340 CD Walkman MP3 w/FM Tuner:
I use this product for listening to music while relaxing, reading or even doing housework if the player will fit in my pocket.
PROS: you can turn the player on its side and it continues to play well.
I love the remote control, saves on reaching for the player itself.
Sound quality is excellent, and includes a bass enhancer (2 settings.)
The player picks up where it left off the last time you played a CD, a very handy feature.
The clear plastic display is easy to read, tells you which track and how much time has elapsed.
Radio controls are easy to use.
CONS:
The ear plugs hurt the inside of my ears.
You open the player with a plastic slide on the edge and it's a bit hard to grip. It seems like a cheap and fragile mechanism on an otherwise well-made product.
The only ways that I found you can turn off the player when it is playing a CD is to either turn the radio on then off, or to pop open the player then close it. It would be nice to have a power switch. If you don't turn it off somehow the batteries will run down.
The unit does not come with its own DC adapter.

I use this mostly as an MP3 player of recorded old time radio shows (The Shadow; Suspense; Jack Benny; etc.) and attach it to a small AM transmitter to play the "shows" through an adjacent old time (circa 1946) AM radio. Great fun and entertainment.
