The CFD-G700CP Xplod CD Radio Cassette Recorder from Sony provides you with a powerful listening experience that's as loud as its design. Xplod has a 130mm power drive woofer (PDW) and 20 watts total output power, in addition to 5 preset sound modes for optimized listening.
You can crank up the AM/FM radio, CD-R/RW discs, or cassettes. And, if you're in the mood to mix it up, the radio also records from CD to cassette for some good old-fashioned mixed-tape action. Other highlights of the CFD-G700CP include a remote control, audio/PC input, and compatibility with D-Light Sync Pak Stage Lights (optional).

Propelling the quality and functionality of the boombox product category forward, this Sony XPLOD CD-Cassette Recorder CFD-G700CP is in a class by itself. Whether it's a classical sonata, jazz, country, classic rock, or punk fusion and everything in between, this Sony boombox will make your music come to life with its deep bass performance, detailed midrange, and super clear vocals. Be prepared to revel in the high fidelity world of Sony portable audio with this music machine at your next house party. This Sony boombox, because of its full range speaker system and Power Drive Woofer backed by a discrete 20 watt (RMS) power amplifier system, can successfully compete in sound quality with much more expensive component stereo systems. Since this Sony boombox features the ultimate aggressive power design, I no longer have a need for that large stereo system in my home. In fact, it is almost a slight of this product to call it a boombox because of its unique and powerful sound that it produces. The large and beautiful red speaker system consists of two full range 4 inch speakers, two 0.8 inch tweeters, and a 5 inch Power Drive Woofer with three distinct levels of bass adjustment. The Power Drive Woofer lights up in bright red when it is engaged. The Sony XPLOD boombox feature set is the best that I have ever seen in this product category. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox comes standard with a high-performance, drift-free digital FM/AM tuner, 30 FM/AM station presets, telescopic FM whip antenna, built-in AM antenna, two auxiliary line input jacks, built-in 3.5mm audio cable for connection to your MP3 player, digital volume control, cassette player/recorder, soft touch cassette tape transport controls, adjustable sleep timer, CD/Cassette synchronized recording, CD-R/RW playback, MP3 CD playback, a connection for DJ lighting equipment, CD player with a 1-bit D/A converter for outstanding Sony sound, CD transport controls, resume, program, shuffle, and repeat CD playback modes. A full function remote commander is included for convenient control of the unit from a distance. A headphone jack for private listening and 5 preset sound modes to suit your musical tastes are thrown in as well. The stereo operates on 8 D batteries and 2 AA batteries for the supplied remote control. AC power is also available for the unit. A detachable AC power cord is supplied with the stereo. The boombox is heavy and therefore, not easily portable because of it. The LCD display is small and should be backlit. I do wish it had even more amplifier power and an HD radio tuner built-in. Of course, this Sony boombox has a sturdy carry handle. You can also play tunes from your iPod/iPhone or any other MP3 player via an auxiliary line input jack. This Sony boombox is reasonably priced for the audio quality and features that you get. Once you listen to this boombox, you will realize that Sony has redefined the boombox product category for the foreseeable future. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP portable stereo has a sturdy construction to it and should last for many years with proper care. Good Luck. Enjoy.

I bought this unit to play my cassette library. Great sound with CDs and stereo radio, BUT Sony forgot to upgrade their cassette technology! You can't play type II and type IV cassettes without damaging the head, and the LCD readout on the front of the unit is impossible to read unless the unit is at eye level in bright light. Sony should have put an LED readout ON TOP of the unit. I would NOT have purchased this unit had I known in advance about the limited cassette usage.

Comments about Sony CFD-G700CP Xplod CD Radio Cassette Recorder:
My Brother-in-law needed a new sound system that had AM-FM bands and a CD player. My old Sony CFD-G55 fit his needs very well.
I bought the Sony CFD-G700CP so I would have an up-to-date portable music system to use at my rent house shop. I have a semi-dustproof enclousere for the old player, but will have to build a larger one now.
On first use I had the preset AM-FM stations set. I have a large selection of CD's made from MP3 files that fit in 7 boxes of 60. The CFD-G700CP plays CD's and MP3 files on CD's All of the MP3 files fit on 40 CD's so I can now carry fewer disks and have more songs to listen to with me.
I have found that the sound on the new unit is better than the Sony CFD-G55 (which is very good). The base reflex system produces solid sound at 3 levels (Off, Boost 1, Boost 2). Futhermore, the added high-range drivers add crispness to the sound. This unit also has 5 buttons on top to set Sound Characteristics: Flat, Rock, Dance, Salsa & Reggaeton.
The Remote does not have number button (like the old unit), so it is simpler and more complicated to use. The preset stations must now be scrolled through. It will take a little time to learn the whole system, but it is well worth the effort.
The one BIG disappointment is the still too small display screen. Not only is it small, it DOES NOT have the backlight that the old unit had. Instead, it uses a reflector behind the LCD display. This makes it impossible to read without a bright light reflecting off the display background. I have "solved" this at my Computer Station by placing a flourescent night light with a white reflector close to the display.
The Power Output in Rated at 20 Wats RMS (FCC: 12W Total Output Power). This is plenty to brosdcast to a large party outdoors. (be sure not to disturb your neighbors)
Overall, I would recommend it as a solid portable sound system.

The sound is excellent.
We've enjoyed ours for a year and I'm about to buy a second one here.
Challenges:
CD player recently started skipping and hanging in an otherwise quiet, virbration-free room.
Cannot read black plastic button labels on black plastic frame.
Cannot read LCD display under most conditions or from most locations.

I use this in a loud art studio where I teach. It was time to update so that my kid classes could plug their MP3 players into a stereo. I didn't want to spend a lot, but wanted good sound, and this boom box was the perfect fit.

I am on large jobs quite often and small "boomboxes" don't cut it-This Thing Truly Rocks. Has SOLID bottom end, line in(MP3)and even a remote! One thing I find in most portable radios is a poor radio- the Xplod has a nice tuner to boot.

This thing is a beast, and the styling is a bit obnoxious. But, oh, does it pump out the sound! Subwoofer has it's own separate amp, so bass is certainly not lacking. Very pleased.

awesome box with great sound and bass. this is the 3rd sony xplod i have owned over the past 10 or so years and the best one yet. only a few things i would improve... more power would be nice, though it is loud by most peoples standards. Lose the cassette player, replace with cd storage maybe? BACKLIGHT the display...hard to read! Add a USB input and SD card input. Longer cord for the aux input. Other than that great product with great sound, thanks SONY and B&H

Comments about Sony CFD-G700CP Xplod CD Radio Cassette Recorder:
I bought this funky-looking bad boy so that I could listen to my nearly 1200-CD, computer-controlled music collection while I'm working or relaxing outside my swank pad, by way of a short-range FM transmitter connected to my roughly $20,000 sound system. I was particularly attracted to the Xplod's subwoofer/bi-amplification design, a feature that is typically incorporated in higher end audio systems. I wanted something that would sound good enough to satisfy my picky audiophile ears, even though I didn't expect it to sound anything like my system. But from the moment I fired-up the Xplod and tuned it to the FM frequency I was using to broadcast my CD collection, I was pleasantly stunned. The clarity, frequency range and definition are amazing - certainly not what you've ever heard in a portable music player, with the notable exception of the much more costly Bose Acoustic Wave. The bass output outdoors is astounding for such a small subwoofer cavity, even more so given that bass frequencies don't have the benefit of passive radiation afforded to them by the walls and floors of an indoor room. Percussion is crisp and clear, vocals are rich and articulated, woodwinds resonate brilliantly, pianos have stand-out attack and synthesizers are appealingly edgy but not shrill. The sound quality is so good that I intend to buy more Xplods as gifts for the electronically-challenged people I know who can't fathom the hook-up and operation of a home component sound system but who would appreciate quality music reproduction in their homes.

I use this boombox to learn songs with my bass guitar. For a boombox this unit has very good sound. Plenty of bass, mids, and highs are clear.
It is big, a little cumbersome to transport. The only issue I have, is the display is not lighted, and is rather small.

Comments about Sony CFD-G700CP Xplod CD Radio Cassette Recorder:
I am currently 35ish... My last "boombox" was the Sony CFD-703 Mega Bass System, which I purchased in 1994 for $250.00. That was a little investment at that time to say the least. To be frank, I was really unable to find any current system that produced clear rich sound with great (user selectable) bass.I looked at almost every system currently available... Bose, Soundfreaq, Altec Lansing, Dr. Dre Beatbox... etc. All produce very rich clean sound, but I personally wanted to have access to play/use all of the media types (I-POD, MP3, CD, Cassette and yes... FM/AM Radio). The CFD-G700CP gave me everthing I wanted, including clear rich sound, for a great price compared to the systems I listed above.Yes, the unit is large, but when you want a little bass for different types of songs you are going to need some air (space) to push in order to get some quality bass. My former Sony CFD-703 had controls that were all "digital" touch. This CFD-G700CP contains both "digital" touch and "push" touch controls. The "push" touch controls are used for the cassette player.I did not have to get another Sony again, but this system met and exceeded all of my expectations plus at a great price. And yes, the display is not illuminated, but no big deal... still able to use/see display in dark.[...] System sounds and plays every media type great... just as I had hoped.
