This external is connected to a Mac. It is partitioned to 2 1TB partitions and one is holding reference data such as photos, parts, models, etc. The other partition is holding backed-up data from 6 other partitions as the first copy.
The data transfer rate is very good. There is virtually no noise from this drive. The new corrugated sheet metal design for the body does help heat dispersion. It is sitting beside 4 other LaCie drives and it is less warm to the touch. The quad interface is very nice to have. Although I am no planning to move this drive to another machine, alas it is the only way to get FW800 on an external. The footprint is small and using its included stand very sturdy. ALl the cables and needed parts even an allen wrench for the stand is there. IT comes with SilverKeeper software for backup which works great and simple for scheduled backup.
I always consider a drive to have about 3 years of life. This drive comes with a 3 year warranty. So the cost as an insurance for my data in 3 years is very reasonable.

The d2 is an external hard drive. I bought it for its size (2TB) and the eSTAT connection for its transfer speed relative to FireWire and USB 2.0.
As fate would have it, the eSATA connection only partially works. After a few minutes of disk drive inactivity the first application to try to access the drive locks up (failes to respond). The only way to close the locked up application is to restart the computer. (Task Manager will not close the application.) This results in the computer locking up and only a power off and power on brings it back to life.
The FireWire and USB connections work fine on the d2.
When I contacted LaCie about my eSATA problem I was informed that the eSTAT problem is known to them and it also affects eSATA products of other companies. They also say that it is a driver problem connected with Windows 7 operating systems.
LaCie's solution was for me to buy a thrid party eSATA card with its own drivers or use USB. NICE.
So, I paid for eSATA and got FireWire/USB. Definitely not a bargin for me, but LaCie is laughing all the way to the bank.

I use this for long term storage of photo RAW files on my home iMac. The previous one was for Time Machine back-up of my work MacBook. It is simple to set up out of the box and took less than five minutes to be up an running. No downside evident to date.

I use this disk as a remote backup (at work), and it is a great disk for this purpose. It is well constructed and solid, and is a very peppy drive. The display is large and visible, and the on/off switch is a real plus. I just wish that it were less money :(.

Comments about LaCie 2TB d2 Quadra Hard Drive:
I use external drives for editing wedding videos and this is my second Lacie d2 Quadra Hard Drive. I have had problems with Western Digital and Maxtor external drives failing. Then I saw how my work uses the Lacie d2 drives. They move them around, fill them completely and emptied them and the Lacie HDs keep on going. That's what made me try them and now I've bought my second one. They are built to last.

I have been using LaCie drives since 2006, and never had an issue. I still have a working 320GB LaCie d2 Quadra drive. d2 is a nice product with solid support. I would highly recommend this model. It's easy to use, good looking, and works well.

I use this hard drive for active video editing. Although it is a bit larger than the portable drives and needs to be plugged in, it really just works better when it comes to moving hd footage in final cut. Works great, I have many of these and use them all the time. Stable.

Comments about LaCie 2TB d2 Quadra Hard Drive:
I have several LaCie drives - 500GB, 1T, a 300GB Rugged, and this 2T. This drive is great. It has all the Firewire ports that I need at this time period and plenty of them (the thunderbolt port is making it's way to town). I have never had a LaCie drive unexpectedly dismount, fail, or become corrupted. The only thing I tend to be conscious of with these drives is that they need to be stood up and running, but that can be a bit wobbly if you bump into it, so make sure these drives are in a safe place while in use.

Comments about LaCie 2TB d2 Quadra Hard Drive:
I use this for 1920X1080 high-def video editing in Final Cut Pro 7 on my Macbook Pro. When the hard drive is connected via the firewire cord, it runs smoothly and flawlessly. (The high-def footage has a little trouble when the hard drive is connected to the computer via the USB 2.0 cord). Love this hard drive. It's quiet and relatively small!
My computer initially had compatibility issues with this hard drive. But I called LaCie's tech support, and they had it taken care of in less than 5 minutes. Great customer service.

LaCie d2 Quadra works very well, fast and silently. The unit is extremely easy to setup, it worked basically out-of-box. I love the versatility of connection options: eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0. The design is cool and very solid, and blue light multi-function button is great.

Bought LaCie 2TB d2 Quadra for pro level video editing and extra storage. Very happy with the performance, the drive looks cool and works very decently with USB 2.0, and even faster with Firewire and eSATA. The device is plug and play. It runs cool and with any noise. 0 glitches in a year of usage!
