The 2009 Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iPod Speaker System is an update on the original. Just connect any docking iPod or iPhone and listen to your music, headphones-free. Should you feel the need to change things up, the speaker also doubles as an FM radio with 4 station presets. There's also an auxiliary input for connecting and listening to other audio devices as well.
But, no matter what you're listening to the system features a balanced enclosure, electronics, and drivers, along with an expanded sound stage for powerful sound. There's also digital signal processing technology for strong bass.
When it comes to the design of the system the built-in handle swings back to hold the speaker up on a table-top. The high-contrast LCD lets you see track, artist, album, and station information all in one place while the full-function remote control lets you manage menu and music options. When you're not using the remote simply store it away in the built-in cubby. In addition to these features, onboard controls, a rechargeable built-in battery, and an interference-free design round out the highlights of the updated inMotion Classic.

Very portable, clean and clear sound, nice looking. I would have given it a 5 star rating if: the rechargeable battery was a higher capacity and it would be readily available(no mention of the battery availability or price in the Manufacturer's Web site), It's not very easy to connect an iPod Touch G4 (does not come with the correct adapter). The iPod Touch sits too vertical and is easily prone to be damaged by anything touching it, (it would be better to have the iPod lean against the front of the player in a more secure way, to be able to carry the player with the iPod connected (Altec Lansing, you need a better ergometric design, after all, isn't this piece of equipment portable?), also the remote control needs to be better secured to the unit, so you won't loose it while transporting the unit, ( I added a small strip of velcro "loop" to the area where the remote slides into the player.

Bought the speaker so I could learn to play my violin with music. This fits the bill just fine. Small, simple design fits into my practice area unobtrusively. Good sound.

We purchased this for small room sound with our iPod Touch, and to use while traveling on cruises, stays in hotels, days at the beach, etc.
Why do you think they named it "inMotion".
We tested numerous products in this category before purchasing. Could not be more pleased with the sound quality, features like the remote, FM add on, etc.
Lets face it, it does not sound like my Denon amp/Infinity speakers home surround sound set up. NO portable docking station could possibly compare.
Nor does it compare with my computer speaker system (also Altec Lansing), which has better sound, but is a speaker set with separate bass and treble speakers. You can not compare the two as they are different systems for different purposes.
If you want superior sound and quality from a "portable unit" and for a very affordable price the "inMotion" is it. Altec Lansing will never let you down.

Goods:
1. My wife and I both have an iphone 4, it fits nicely onto the dock, even with our bulky Griffin cases. The speakers come with a few adapters for other ipods/iphones but we did not need them.
2. We use the speaker in our kitchen, which is about 20'x30' with 12', ceiling and tile floors and sound resonance is great.
3. The system is small and compact, but sound is surprisingly crisp and clear even at higher volumes. (very important to me)
4. We personally like the design, and don't really care about it's portability, but that's a nice option.
5. Small display also displays the song and artist playing, i thought that was pretty cool.
Bads:
1. No real base.
2. I am not the person to ask about battery life, but looks small, sorry.
Objective Overall Assessment:
5 star easy

We love to take this product out on our screened in porch and just listen to all of our tracks randomly as background music. The only thing is that even though we have over 200 CD's loaded, the shuffle doesn't seem to be a true shuffle. The remote comes in handy, especially for volume, but we need to mark it for better handling in the dark. The speaker quality is fantastic. One thing I noticed that I was surprised at is that when the charge runs completely down, you can't plug it in to continue listening with your IPOD. Not sure why, and this has only happened once so far, so maybe the IPOD was also run down, but it is supposed to be charging in the Alec Station, so this should not have mattered. I would suggest this product for around $100, we have enjoyed it's portability.
