ASUS O!Play HDP-R1 Media Player
The O!Play HDP-R1 Media Player from ASUS is an HD digital media player that supports a wide range of digital formats. Connecting to your TV via HDMI or RCA composite, the player can access media over a LAN via Ethernet or from a directly-connected eSATA or USB 2.0 hard drive.
The O!Play can play digital videos, music, and pictures on your TV. It supports most popular file formats, and even offers support for video subtitles. A wireless remote control, with a dedicated shuffle function, is included.
- Can output Full HD 1080p video via HDMI to drive your HDTV at full resolution
- Supports a broad range of file formats, including exclusive support for RMVB
- Wireless remote features a dedicated "Music Shuffle" button, which accesses all music files on the an attached storage device and starts playing them in a random order
- Works with direct-attached eSATA hard drives, which are up to 6 times faster than USB 2.0 disks, and with files shared on a network via Ethernet
- Also supports USB 2.0 disks

O!Play can play all format of videos without any convertion. So far, I haven't had any problem with the O!Play, and it plays WM, RM, AVI and etc without any issue. It play on 1080p resolution. Also, it can play music, such as MP3; and Photo Picture. It is just great! I can say enough about this player. It has traditional Video/Audio connection and HDMI for high-res upto 1080p. It was working fine till last week. I have decided to upgrade the new firmware from ASUS website. First few upgrades went ok, the after the last final firmware upgrade, the device rebooted itself and showing only the ASUS logo. I searched internet forms and tried everything and finally gave up. BUYERS beware that only way you can upgrade the firmware using USB thumb drive. If anything goes wrong then you will lose this player. Manufactures warranty is 1 year only.

Plays nearly all files. Good picture. Volume on remote needs to be turned down for some media files as it is very loud and may overload your TV. Lacks Angle Switch key on remote thus not able to change angle on a dual angle disc. You need to go to the main menu of the disc to choose angle and than restart the video again.
Durability unknown as the item was just purchased. My Mediagate M2TV lasted for just somewhat over a year.

After reading about this i ordered one and it is very easy to set up and use. I have a USB Seagate drive hooked to it playing movies and photos and some music. So far it has only not played one movie format a strange MOV format. For our business i can see buying a few more for playing photo ad slide shows to HDTVs in our store. I have the audo output from the back going to a home sound system making for much better sound then from my TV.

I tested the following files; mkv (hi def) , xvid, divx, h264, rm, mpeg 1 …..and it plays them all, rewind and forward works fine. My Pioneer dvd (divx) player get stuck on few media files that O!play played flawlessly. I have my CRT tv connected to this player. All my media files are stored in Ubuntu/samba server and O!play plays them from network (Ethernet). It's shows the LAN speed as well which is kind of neat. I haven't tested this player using external storage yet. If you have files saved on your computer or server and want to watch them on TV this player is your choice.
