A Lente Zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VRII da Nikon é uma ótima solução de lente única para D-SLRs formato DX. Got this just before leaving for a week and a half on Maui and it delivered amazingly as a travel companion. You get what you pay for with t his lens. In the age of really not needing (or wanting) to carry around multiple lenses for the average photographer this lens is the ticket to photos that are amazing for beginners and good enough up to the intermediate/semi-pro. Would I like a 2.8 version, absolutely. I agree with other reviewers that I had to either step to a wider aperture, add some shutter time, or up the ISO to get certain shots compared to other lenses I have used without such a range. However, the VRII helps when using slower shutter speeds, a welcome offset. You definitely get some distortion out at 18mm up to 22mm or so, which is kind of a drag for someone like me who traditionally uses 18mm as a standard in primarily landscape photographs... It's not always obvious, but in those sweeping ocean views or level horizon shots you'll definitely see it. that can be a plus or minus depending on what you're going for. The range is great on this guy, however, and I have found myself exploring other ranges of compositions, including 200mm zooms. The VR is sick, not sure I will ever want a lens without it as I have got countless shots I never would have even attempted without having it.Bottom line: is this a professional lens - no. Did Nikon market and sell it that way, no. What it is the greatest all around lens money can buy. If you read deep, any complaints in reviews for this lens are from people who didn't realize what they were getting into and had expectations way above what this package has ever claimed to be. Pros may want to pass this up for bigger apertures, shorter ranges and better glass, but it would take much more $ to get this versatility for the average Joe and for those just grab the camera and go days...

I have owned the original version of this lens for over a year. The only problem with it was the zoom creep. The Nikon press announcement for this upgrade specifically indicated it employed an all new zoom mechanism to prevent zoom creep. The only change I can see is the lock at 18mm -- but I don't think anyone ever reported a problem with the lens creeping away from 18mm. The creep problem is between 35-150 or so -- and while this new model does seem somewhat more stiff zooming between 35-150, the copy I got will still creep out if set to 50 and the camera is left to hang naturally from the strap [no shaking necessary].
I was also looking forward to the improved contrast from the improved coatings also noted in the press announcement. In a/b comparisons with my original 18-200, I couldn't detect any difference -- even comparing histograms. Not to say it isn't better -- I just couldn't see it as better.
The one thing I did detect with the new model [I hope just a problem with the copy I got] was that out-of-focus pinpoint light sources are not circular, but rather, tear drop shaped. My original version, while not the best bokeh, is at least symmetric in this regard -- yes, somewhat darker in the center of the circles than at the edges, but at least symmetric. This is really annoying on high contrast out of focus horizontal lines which due to the uneven bokeh, appear to have ghosts drifting above them, as though the camera or object moved during the exposure. [Yes, VR was off for all these on-tripod, shutter-delay-on comparisons.]
I am somewhat surprised to see a re-design with this little impact.

I bought this lens as a gift for my fiance (and myself). It was taking amazing pictures right out of the box and we are very happy with it. We have used the VR quite a bit to help us take great low light pictures.
We are extremely happy with this lens and will suggest it to anyone looking for something similar.
Only draw back is the lens creep which is easily controlled by holding your lens while framing the shot. It is also controlled by the lock on the side of the lens so that it does not extend while carrying it around.

This is an excellent multipurpose lens. 18-200 means I almost never have to change lenses, and THAT means less dust and other foreign matter inside my camera housing. It's a bit heavier than my old 18-105 lens, but that's to be expected because it's really two lenses in one. Also, a word of caution if you use the zoom lock switch: don't forget it's on! It takes some time to get used to, but eventually it becomes second nature like taking off the lens cap. Overall, I'm very happy with this product.

I use this as my everyday lens for the D90. Its great versatility allows you to get the shot, which is the single most important consideration.
The obvious con, as others have noted, is the slip in the zoom. You can use the little locking mechanism, but it only holds the lens in the 18mm zoom position. Unlocking it can delay getting into shooting position (particularly if you forget and then have to fumble for it). As you walk around with the camera hanging from a shoulder strap the zoom will slip. Most annoying is when it happens as you are taking a shot aiming either up or down. When it is hard enough to control subjects, lighting, and timing, the last think you need is to be fighting with zoom slip.

At this point I have mostly used the lens indoors; both around the house as well as in the gym for my son's basketball games. I love the zoom range of the lens and the compact size relative to my longer lenses, but I have noticed that in certain situations it is slow to focus and at times seams to have a hard time finding the focal point. Of the pictures I have taken, most are very good and clear, but there are too many out of focus. As I become more familiar with the lens and its limitations, I think I will get better results; so at this point my positive recommendation is a bit cautious and would have actually chosen 3.5 if it were an option. My "buy rating" is also a bit cautious as it is a lot of money to spend for most non-professionals.
