I got this monitor for my home computer, which I usually use for gaming and video playback as well as limited photo editing. The brand was a primary attraction. While ASUS may seem like a "no name" brand to some, it is actually a well known and highly respected manufacturer of computer motherboards and other components for the build-your-own PC crowd, especially computer gamers and other computing enthusiasts. This panel also has generally favorable reviews at many other internet sites. The three year warranty is a substantial advantage compared to other brands.
Overall I am very happy with the monitor. It is very sharp and clear with vibrant colors and no bad pixels. I like the fact that a HDMI input is included along with DVI and VGA, which allows it to be easily used with HDTV sources and game consoles. It measures a true 24 inches diagonally, not 23.6" like some other "24 inch" monitors. I also like the matte display finish. The backlight is very bright - some might say too bright. The default out of the box is 100% brightness, but I set mine to 40% most of the time. There is no hint of ghosting with quickly moving images.
This display is not perfect, although most of the "problems" are common to all low cost monitors of its type. Like pretty much everything else in its price range, it features a panel that uses "twisted nematic", or TN, technology. This results in a somewhat limited viewing angle, limited color gamut by professional standards, and less than inky blacks. (The blacks can be improved, however, by setting the brightness to a lower than default setting and adjusting the display angle for best viewing. Because of the very bright whites the display is capable of, overall contrast is still good.) The chassis is not of luxury car quality, and the stand is adjustable in tilt only.
If you are looking for a pro-grade display for photo editing and need a monitor capable of displaying an extremely broad color gamut with precisely calibrated colors, you will need to spend more money. For users looking for a general purpose display in this price range, I think this is a good one.

My roommate has the 236H, but seeing how the vw256h was manufactured much more recently under far better standards, I certainly expected a better picture. I've been using an older Samsung 2253bw LCD and was looking forward to something bigger and better.
Although, the vw246h does appear to have superior response time during gaming, the colors are very "splotchy" and videos look pretty darn bad on it, especially as far as dpi quality goes. Whereas, my roommate's OLDER 236h gets a much, much better picture.
Like also to note that there is no adjustment for color hue on this! Ridiculous! I have to go into my nvidia control panel to adjust that, but it blocks everything on the sreen (Nvidia needs to consider this), so you can't make reference to a picture or video to see if the colors are right. You'd think Asus would have incorporated hue adjustments directly into their lcd menu, but they don't.
Regarding hue, the colors are highly inconsistent. For instance, in one game a blue glow ends up looking aquamarine! If I change color settings via the Nvidia control panel I can correct this, but then this makes the colors of peoples' skin in photos and videos a little off.
Frankly, the colors look "runny" to me. I should have bought the older model for the exact same price or gone with a 22in instead. They have to cheat with 24in lcds, anyway, by stretching out the dpi resolution. This will be the last time I buy an Asus monitor that I haven't had a chance to test first.
I am a pro at spotting color differentiation as I've had to match color and textures as part of one of my jobs, not so mention I was raised by the highest paid commercial artist in my home state! Just because an LCD is a TN panel does not mean the color has to be abysmal, especially since it was first produced just over a year ago!

This is my second VW246H monitor. The first is being used as a PC monitor. This one replaces an old TV I was using as a camera monitor (with a cheap video to VGA converter) and also as a DVD player monitor using the HDMI connection and built-in speakers.

I have been very happy with this monitor so far.
Being a photographer and use to high end color correct monitors I was reluctant to purchase a monitor this cheap. As it is not used for editing photos it works perfectly for me. There's nothing amazing about this monitor, it has the back light adjustments and is good for photos. Videos aren't amazing but for the price I paid I can't complain.
Very good monitor for the price you pay!!!

This is the second ASUS 24" display I have purchased to use as an extended screen on my laptop.I am a fan of ASUS having had very positive experience with motherboard, GPU's, netbooks and laptops over the years.
PROs:
This is an inexpensive 1080 display that supports HDMI and has integrated speakers. It is bright and clean and runs fairly cool. The edge-to-edge luminance and color are good with no glaring hot spots and no dead pixels.
CONs: The color pallette and color adjustments are limited. Even attempting to calibrate in RGB left me frustrated and I find I have to settle for too warm or too cold.
Access to the volume and brightness control was not engineered with any forethought.
The resolution is good but too sharp resulting in a pixel defined image.
The monitor height is not adjustable causing me to crouch over my desk to be able to achieve the proper viewing angle. It can be tilted but then it doesn't properly align with the laptop's display and reflects glare from overhead. I've set it on a 2" thick city phone book.
I've used other 24's that render a much better image and more robust features and adjustments but they cost more than double the price of this item. This is a good monitor that does the job. Overlook the faults if they are not critical to your application.

Comments about ASUS VW246H 24" Widescreen LCD Computer Display:
I bought this monitor to extend my current laptop screen. My laptop only has VGA and HDMI port, so I check around all similar monitors and choose this one for it's rich ports. There are very few like this one, has VGA,HDMI and DVI(which I don't need for now), and also at this suprisingly low price!
I have been using this one for three weeks, not a single bad pixel and nothing else wrong with it. The color is definitely so much better than my laptop(last year model:Lenovo Y560), since this is my first LCD monitor I can't really tell it's better or worse than other brand's monitor, I can only say this is great.
People always complain how bad design of the monitor's control panel, I just want to say once it's tuned to its best, I would unlikely to touch the panel this life time ever after, so I really think it's nothing important at all, besides this one's has everything you need.
Regarding to the sound, you cant really expect a compute r monitor to have high def speaker(even TV dont have that great speaker). this monitor has a 3.5mm plug for the audio input, i can also use HDMI to output my laptop's audio onto the monitor speaker, my laptop has JBL speaker so they're definitely better than that of this monitor, but I still use the monitor's speaker pretty often, if you're so picky then just buy yourself a fancy stereo.
In conclusion, this monitor has all i need and expected and i don't regret paying this little to get such satisfaction.
PS. the VGA output into this monitor is already great! For computer-HDMI user, remember to google for how to set your graphic card to suit for HDMI when you set up, it's standard procedure.

Comments about ASUS VW246H 24" Widescreen LCD Computer Display:
This is my second 24" monitor from ASUS so I could have a dual monitor setup. Very crisp and clear image using the DVI port. Easy to setup and go. I would have given it 5 stars if it had a swivel base which it does not. It does tilt back and forth, but it does not swivel side to side. You have to move the base to do that. Also having two of these monitors side by side I realized they did not color match so I had to do quite a bit of adjusting to color match them and even after many attempts I came close, but never got them to match perfectly unfortunately. Overall a good monitor for a good value and very good image quality.

I got this monitor so I could use it with my PC and PS3 at the same time.
It was (as expected) quite bright out of the box, but a little bit of adjustment, and it's fine now.
Excellent overall picture quality, and it was nice to have the cables included.
