The Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer is a printer, copier and scanner all rolled into one unit with built-in automatic duplex printing. To create images that retain clarity and detail when enlarged, the MP990 puts out documents and photos at resolutions up to 9600 x 2400dpi. It is fast, producing 4 x 6" borderless color photos in about 16 seconds. The Pixma MP990's scanner delivers clear and precise digital files up to 4800dpi and can handle documents up to 8.5 x 11.7". The scanner includes a Film Adapter Unit to enable digital conversion of 35mm film and slides.
The MP990 has built-in Wi-Fi capability that lets the printer work unfettered from almost any location within range. It can also connect to a wired network via a built-in Ethernet connection. For PC-free operations, it is compatible with 20 memory cards, USB Flash Drives, IrDA (for printing from a compatible mobile phone), and PictBridge for direct printing from a digital camera.
The MP990 uses a six individual ink tank system that includes a photo black and gray ink which adds contrast and clarity for professional-quality color and black & white photos.
It has easy to use features that work in conjunction with its 3.8" color LCD and an Easy Scroll Wheel. The control panel enables photo selection and editing, plus activation for the printer's special modes. These modes include Auto Photo Fix II, for optimizing image exposures, and Auto Scan, which automatically recognizes the type of original then scans and saves it at appropriate settings.

I was looking for a new printer and after reading a lot of reviews I settled on the MP990 primarily because it would do what I needed - - produce quality documents, the occasional photographic print and the ability to scan slides and films. With thousands of slides to scan, the MP990 gives me the ability to start that process. The scans I've done to date have been outstanding and while it may take a while I can at least start before deciding on a dedicated scanner.
The feature set on this printer is very extensive though I haven't tried them all. I was especially pleased on the two sided printing option. It has been very easy to use every feature I've tried.
While not tiny the overall dimensions make this a relatively compact model for my needs and it looks very clean on my desk.
The help information included on the disk is very good and the Canon technical support people helped me solve a minor setup problem I had. I couldn't be more pleased and would recommend this product highly.

I'm a non-professional photographer hoping to get into a few local shows as well as print photos for around the house. The quality is great, especially for the price. I enjoy being able to print good photos with several options while also being able to scan & copy. This was the best multi-purpose printer I could find on the market.
6 ink wells make the color quality better and you don't have to replace the 3-pack when only one is low.
It takes up a bit of floor space and can be slow on start up, but I'm pleased with the overall printing quickness of even photos at 8.5x10.
Installing drivers was easy, but comes with too much software. Not sure which pieces you actually need to get the printer to work versus all the extras they think you need. Doesn't detract from the overall product though.
I had it up and running on my wireless to my Mac laptop and then Ethernet PC desktop within 15minutes.

Comments about Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer:
I have owned the product for only a month and do not do high volume printing or photo copying. Having said that, I have not noticed the high volume ink consumption mentioned in some reviews. Additionally, I do not find the printer to be noisy as is mentioned in some reviews. The two-side printing is a new feature for me and an obvious plus. This product is a definite upgrade for me and so far I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Great printer, does everything advertised. It's a bit pricy, but I got it for 70% off so I'm happy. Not sure about the expense of ink yet. Do your research

Comments about Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer:
This is a great printer, and that would have been true even if I didn't get such a great deal on its price from B&H. The printer is a bit bulky, but worth it if you have the space. I love that the ink cartridges have clear windows to be able to physically see the ink level inside. I bought this printer to replace an Epson CX4800 All-In-One, whose ink cartridges declare themselves empty after a certain period of time (~6 months) regardless of whether it really is empty or not. A class action lawsuit was filed against Epson for this, but they just ended up settling the case by giving all Epson owners a $25 coupon to the Epson Online Store (a ripoff). I wanted an advanced, reputable replacement printer and spent months comparing specs and pricing. Cannon looked best on paper, and it seems to be living up to its expectations.

i use the printer for extensive photo printing and document printing. it is great in color clarity, speed of printing for both prints and documents. the slow startup and noise prior to actually printing the first document can be annoying as well as the noise. the paper tray capacity is entirely too small for extensive printing/copying. overall, it is good printer for the price.

Pros: easy wireless set-up, double-sided printing, excellent photo quality, excellent value.
Cons: none yet.
I use this printer for printing text and printing photos. I have used a Canon i960 for years, and was always impressed with the photo quality. I am just as pleased with the photos printed by the MP990.

Comments about Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer:
I'll start off by saying this is easily one of the best color printers that I have ever owned. The combination of a scanner that can handle documents, film, and slides with ease, and built-in 100megabit Ethernet and WiFi (not N, but G) makes networking a breeze. Setup was relatively simple. It took me longer to get the network set up due to the fact that my home network is behind a firewall, and every networked device has to have a static IP address. The print quality is superb, having a gray ink tank makes blank and white photos noticeably nicer. Reviewers have said that it runs through ink quickly, but I cannot comment on this, because I haven't printed a huge amount of pictures yet. If you are looking for an all-in-one printer that prints high quality photos, but cant stomach the price bump to the PixmaPRO 9000, this is the perfect printer for you

Comments about Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer:
For me, this was the perfect printer in terms of function, form, and price. You're really getting an amazing piece of technology for this price point. I read multiple reviews about other wireless printers requiring you to connect to a PC to setup first. Not the case with the Canon Pixma MP990. Wireless setup was a breeze.
After installing the drivers on Windows 7, I had to manually click on the printer in the network browser before it detected it, but after that every computer recognized it and was able to test print.
I managed to print some color, as well as some black & white photos on Canon's Pro Platinum Plus photo paper and the results were stunning. Photos printed on the included samples of Canon's Pro Glossy II paper were equally great. Colors are rich and blacks are true black. Granted, I've seen better black & whites from a lab, but I can't mark it down for that. So, I think the print quality is exceptional, provided you use good photo paper. Also, borderless printing is truely amazing: effortless to setup and print from Lightroom 3. I wish it did the larger format prints, but you will not find a printer that can do that even close to this price. Also, it was very easy to teach my parents to print borderless photos directly from windows picture viewer.
The only flaw I have found was the initial boot-up time from power-on to print. The first photo after a power-on takes 2-3 minutes because of the internal cleaning procedure. After that, however, each photo came out very quick.
It is quite large, but that is completely negated by the fact that it is wireless. I have it set up in a corner in the basement out of the way.
Ink consumption wise, I don't think this printer will be worse than any other inkjet on the market. After three 8.5x11 full color photos, two 8.5x11 B&W, and five 4x6 full color - the grey tank reads about 85%, the rest are still up in the 90's.
It's a cost I'll have to eat regardless of what brand I choose, short of a laser printer.
I'm very happy with this printer and would buy it again. I have also recommended it to two coworkers.

Comments about Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer:
I needed a printer for both text and especially photos that gave excellent quality up to 8.5 X 11in. For the very infrequent larger print a local or online source was more economical. Once the printer is setup with custom print profiles it is extremely efficient with excellent color and detail and no evidence of "banding". The only negative, which I was aware of, is that it can be slow(especially with duplex printing and the occasionally head cleaning), but that is a minor inconvenience compared to the other qualities. For the price I think this is an excellent AIO printer.

Comments about Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer:
I ordered this on sale after a bit of waffling on which printer to get. It actually has two feed trays, something I didn't realize before. The back feed tray is like a normal inject printer where the paper stands up. This is meant for photo paper, while plain paper goes in the bottom "cassette" tray.
The pictures it prints are amazing, especially from a very large image printing on a smaller format like a 4x6. Like the other comments said, these are print lab quality, especially with the included photo paper sample.
I think I'll need to buy more photo paper for this printer, because it really brings it out. I really cannot tell the images came from an inkjet!

So far I have been impressed. B&H sold for an unbeatable price and Canon put up the quality. Installing the ink was simple and setting up the wireless took only a few minutes. I was ready to print 30 minutes after taking it out of the box. I look forward to printing those great photos.

Product was easy to set up with a MAC. Photos are outstanding but the ink is used up fairly quick compared to the Canon Pixma MP600 I was using before. Would recommend buying extra ink at the same time as the printer since it was cheaper here than in any stores where I live.

Comments about Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer:
The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the enormous size of this thing. Check the dimensions if you have a small desk! Setup and wireless printing worked on first try. Print speed is faster than I would expect of a non-laser printer. Double sided print is not simultaenous - it works by printing one side of the page then rolls it back to flip it around inside and prints the other side. Clunky but it works, hands free. Lower paper tray doesn't hold many pages and is pretty flimsy plastic.

Comments about Canon Pixma MP990 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer:
I had to replace my Epson RX620 photo printer, so I bought an HP wireless, only to return it since it would not communicate with the Apple wireless router I use. And, of course, the seller did not tell me of that problem, nor did HP, only after an hour and a half talking with their tech support. The Canon installed perfectly and easily. The only negative is that the colors do not match what the Epson delivered. Screen color to Epson balance, but the Canon shifts to red and darker. So I still have to calibrate between the two.
