I chose this lens over the Canon EF 28-135mm IS USM as a general walk-around lens. The lens is heavy, but well built, with little play in any moving parts. Picture quality was on par with the 28-135mm when I compared both lenses. I chose this lens for a number of reasons. The 28-135mm starts at an equivalent ~50mm on my crop body camera and uses an older IS system. The 18-135mm has a superior IS system, UD glass to help control CA, and allows me a wider perspective at it's widest focal length than the 28-135mm. This lens lacks USM and FTM focusing as well as a distance scale. Autofocus is fast and seemed almost as fast as the 28-135mm, but not nearly as quiet.
Overall I would recommend this lens to anyone who wanted to carry a single lens for their 1.6x crop body camera.

My results with the 18-135 are the similar as in the reviews of the Canon 18-135mm at, [@]. BTW [@] the only one I'm of aware that do their lens tests on the lens itself -- not images taken with a camera. My overall rating of JPEG images out of the camera (T2i) is 2.5 due to the lens is quite soft at the edges of the image, noticeable light fall-off at the corners with max apertures, and distortion at 18mm.You can get good (3.5 - 4.0) images providing that you:• Have enough light to use f/8 ~ f/11. Lens is quite soft at the edges of the image, and noticeable light fall-off at the corners with max apertures.• Shoot RAW to get the best results of removing CA and purple/blue color fringing.• Will need to PP to reduce the 18mm wide angle distortion.• It is quite sharp in the center.• The IS works quite well, though according [@] its around 3-stops, not the 4-stops as Canon specs.WOULD recommend ONLY with above caveats, and to buy as the "Kit" lens or the "White Box" version.

I purchased this lens as an amateur photographer using it for mainly family photos and some video. The lens truly is great for all types of shots and makes framing a great shot very easy. Great purchase for my needs

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens:
Yes, you heard it correctly. I shoot video (mostly indoors) and the noise and color distortion on this lens at the widest aperture (3.5-5.6, depending on your zoom), is just awful. I just shot a home for a client, and I made the mistake of using this lens. I now have to rent a new lens, and reshoot the home, due to the poor quality of the image. I would never recommend this lens to any professional.

I like this lens it is reasonably priced. It works well outdoors. Indoors I would reccomend shooting with a flash. Overall it gives you a wide range to play around with. The only drawback is the bokeh is not the greatest.

I recently upgraded to this lens from my kit lens (15-55) and I'm loving it. Depth of field is much better and the wide angle is perfect for what I need in a "walking around" lens. This thing lives on my camera now, just need a vacation to take some stunning images.

I agreed to shoot a wedding and needed this lens. No one local had it in stock, and it turned out to be a blessing. B&H had it for $150 less. It arrived 2 days before the wedding and I got some amazing shots of the bride and groom's special day. The clarity of the shots are spectacular. It has great range and made my job as the wedding photographer so much easier. I would definitely recommend this lens!

Prefect all purpose lens. Great for wide angle and zoom. Had 17 to 85 and was not enough zoom for across a medium size room. the 135 zoom is perfect. Same size a weight as other small zooms.

Excellent zoom range if you want to travel with only one lens. Sure it's not an L, but the quality is good enough to get started and the zoom range is fantastic.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens:
I've owned a DSLR for only about 6 months; it is a Canon EOS D1000. I used the kit lens (18-55mm IS) to take hundreds of photos and found that it was a substantial improvement over my point and shoot camera. But over time I saw that I was a bit limited in what I could do which led me to purchase the 18 - 135mm lens. I feel that it is a very nice upgrade to the kit lens. The pictures just seem to be be sharper; the extra zoom capability is handy too. This will definitely be my main lens. I may just sell my kit lens because I don't see why I would go back to it.

I use my camera for general, non-professional photos. The image stabilization is a must for me due to tremors.
This lense is easy to install and use. I am extremely pleased and have found no negatives with either the lense or B&H Photo.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens:
In full disclosure I am a very new DSLR user (Canon EOS XS/D1000). I've taken about 1,500 pictures since the summer with my kit lens 18 - 55mm IS. Compared to what I had before I was quite pleased with the results. The more I played with it though I found that I was limited in what I could do. This lead me to purchase the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens. My hope was that I would get more zoom and some other improvements; the reviews showed that the glass was a bit nicer in this lens compared to that of the kit lens. I've taken about 100 or so shots with it so far and I have to say I am quite satisfied. It's met my expectations; this will be my all purpose lens going forward.
