I am using the Epson V600 scanner to turn my old photographs, color slides, and color negatives into digital photos that I can store on my computer and external hard drives and show on my TV. The scanner was easy to assemble and connect to the computer, and the software took just a few minutes to install.
The scanner did a superb job in restoring color to old wedding photographs and slides. It was easy to insert the slides into the frame and scan them. The dust removal and backlight features also worked well.
The software included a detailed user guide with a lot of illustrations and handy references to click on that will take you to a specific subject. It was logically organized and written in clear English. I would have liked Epson to have included a paper copy of the user guide instead of making it available on line and with the Epson setup software, but Epson did not do so. I was tedious to print out each section of the user guide so I could turn to the correct instructions while using the computer. While the user guide has ample illustrations and gives a lot of detail on "what" to do, I would have liked more on how to decide which choices to make. For instance, when you scan a slide, you can chose 300 dpi, 600 dpi, etc., but which one would be the best choice? Obviously, the higher the dpi, the better quality, but a higher dpi takes longer to scan & uses more drive space. Nowhere did the manual explain that, for instance, if you want to make 5x7 prints, then choose, say, 900 dpi, while if all you want to make is 4x6 prints, 300 dpi will be fine. My Canon digital camera guide told users how many megapixels to choose if you want a certain size photo (e.g., 8x10), and I think the Epson scanner user guide should provide that information since most users aren't professional photographers. Nobody I talked to including the sales people could give me a good answer, and looking up dots per inch (dpi) on the Internet didn't give me a good answer either.

This is a very respectable desktop scanner which I use to scan a variety of media from color transparencies to gray level figures and text. The scanner has a high hardware resolution and in nearly every way that I have used it, it has performed well. This is why I tend to purchase Epson scanners. However, the primary reason for me to upgrade my old Epson Perfection scanner for this one is to get a model that supports MAC OSX Lion which the advertisements said it did. When I installed the scanner, I found that the only support that Epson has for Lion is through the native MAC Image Capture utility. There is no current Epson developed user interface for this scanner under Lion. The result is that the MAC Image Capture utility crashes in some instances and it does not allow the user to exploit the maximum resolution of the scanner. After talking to Epson user support, I came to the conclusion that their advertisement of support for Lion was premature and false. I still like the scanner and use it, but fairly disappointed at Epson for leading me down the wrong path.

Comments about Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner:
I got this scanner for digitizing/archiving a bunch of photos and negatives. It's great as expected from Epson, but it seems bigger (physically) than it should be. The film holder is a bit flimsy, and takes forever and a day to scan film.

I am using the V600 to scan the thousands of color photos I have taken over a life time to my MAC digital files. I find the clarity of the scanned photos as good as the originals and far better than those i had "professionally" done. It is easy to use and makes the whole tedious process easier.

Haven't used all the features, just gearing up but so far FANTASTIC!! EAsy set up and easy scan, I haven't even read the instructions yet, but have done scans on Auto Scan with the press of a button. So much easier than the one it replaced. Love it

I had been deciding between this scanner and the V700 for much time. The specs on the V700 led me to believe that this V600 would not fit my needs one bit. Quite the contrary. This scanner scans my 35mm film with little needed adjustment and wonderful quality. The 120 film scans need a little bit of work, but that is expected and come out wonderfully after a few edits. Highest rez scans take about 10-20 minutes depending on what you're scanning. If you aren't a pro and need semi pro results while saving a few hundred bucks then this is the scanner for you.

Comments about Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner:
I am a previous owner of a Epson Perfection 4180 scanner, one that worked great for many years until recently (track drive broke).
The Perfection V600 is my new replacement, seriously looked at the V700 but could not justify the price delta for my needs.
Pros: *Great end product with slides/negative, *Does a decent job of standard options for starting up and scanning out of the box. *Multiple slides and negatives can be batched at same time.
Cons: *Included software slows down scans significantly. *The Epson 4180 software interface with scanner was simpler and easier to use. *The included Epson software to run the scanner is main reason for only 4 stars.
I scan mainly old slides/negatives from the 1950-1980's. I also have a couple of other scanners that do print photographs quite nicely.
My need here was for Negatives/Slides. But it does print scans quite well too. The included ICE software (optional to engage and use when scanning) requires way too much patience and time for my needs. Doing a higher resolution scan without the software is time consuming enough, having the software also running, for already nicely preserved films, is not necessary for me. It would take each scan 4-5 minutes and that does not work for over a couple of thousand slides/negatives.
I also own an ImageBox that does slides/prints/negatives and is under $100 on line. Great tool for just posting old photos to FaceBook for example. In comparing the V600 to the ImageBox, really no contest, the Epson offers better colors/intensity and higher resolutions for small photo book publishing. Plus, you don't have to do each scan separately, the Epson allows multiple slides/prints/negatives on the bed to scan at the same time. Well worth the added cost for the V600.
Epson makes a great product for the price.

Comments about Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner:
We haven't used it too much yet, but the few scans made were an improvement from the photo we scanned. We bought the scanner to scan old photos to make a slide show of a couple for their upcoming wedding.
We also want to do some copy and restoration projects.
We had a few problems with setup, our Windows 7 PC had trouble recognizing it. We just have to work with it more and get a system set up.

I needed a scanner to digitize my collection of slides, photos & negatives. After a lengthy search I coice the V600. It was easy to install; had one problem, but Epson help desk talked me through it (was a problem I had created). The results have been great. Very cost effective.

I'm converting all my slide shows to DATA and creating Blu Ray disks. We watch them on a 60" TV and they look great! I have about 1000 slides to scan and I've done about 500 of them and the Epson Perfection V600 Photo is working great. I'm scanning in the "Professional mode @ 4800 resolution and it takes about five minutes to do four slides, a little slow but the end result is fantastic.

Overall a good scanner. I have done nearly 800 slides and had no problems. The only comments are 1.) the slide holder is plastic and a little frail. 2.) the slide dpi is adjustable but there is no adjustment for color or contrast. Many slides come out too light and have to be post processed to make up for it.
