The US-100 from Tascam is a compact USB 2.0 computer audio interface. When plugged into an Apple or Windows computer, the US-100 acts as the computer's soundcard and features inputs for a professional microphone, a guitar, a vinyl turntable, and line-level devices like CD players and keyboards. It features durable aluminum construction, and a very budget friendly price.
The rear of the US-100 features individual inputs for either XLR or 1/4" microphones. The stereo RCA inputs can be switched between mic, line, and phono level. The phono setting allows you to attach a vinyl turntable, so you can easily digitize records into your computer. A grounding terminal for the record player is also included on the US-100 for optimum sound quality.
The aluminum construction of the US-100 is both attractive and sturdy. Its compact size makes it ideal for studio and field recording, and the USB bus powering capability means that you never have to plug it into the outlet on the wall, or fuss with a power cable.

Overall I'm pleased with this product.
Setup was extremely easy. I plugged it into my macbookpro and used it with both Garage band and Audacity.
The D/A converter sounds great using this box as an external sound card to play music.
The guitar input worked well for me.
The Balanced mic input works fine, although I was not pleased with the signal to noise ratio. I wish the preamp offered more amplification before the hiss makes the signal unusable. If this is your first external sound card or you are using the mic input as an alternative to your computer's built in mic input, you will be very pleased with the quality of the mic in. If you are comparing this to other high-end mic preamps, you will be a little disappointed.
For mobile recording, this product offers the advantage that it's completely powered by the computer, so you can do mobile recording using only the laptop's battery.
I have not tested the Phono input settings.
The manual for this product can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. That was helpful in allowing me to evaluate some settings before buying.
I will keep this product and use it as a one-mic studio. If I need more than one mic, or a better mic preamp, I will use this product as a high-quality A/D converter to plug the mixer into.

Great little device for recording 44.1 / 16 bit audio with some basic ASIO support via 3rd party drivers supplied by ASIO4ALL. Unfortunately this audio interface lacks support and drivers from the manufacturer making it nearly useless for instrument recording in modern DAW applications such as ProTools, Reaper, and Cakewalk. If you're looking to use this device for multi-tracking and effects routing, you should look elsewhere.

I use this product to record original music on my laptop. The software recording studio wasn't producing good, consistent quality. I spent hours trying to figure out why. The great guy at B&H really explained this interface unit and told me it would solve the problems. It sure did. My tracks are clean, levels are great, sound quality excellent now. Great deal for the price and glad I got one.

I'm using this on a Dell Inspiron N17R with integrated sound & graphics. The latency was ridiculous but I found a work around called ASIO4all v2 (do a search). It brought the latency into a workable amount. Not perfect, but usable.

Comments about Tascam US-100 USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:
I bought this interface to provide a method of digitizing my Vinyl records that I have collected over the last 40 years. I tested the system on my laptop and digitized some "Thrift Store" records purchased recently. The recordings were great but there seemed to be some extra noise I could not account for. Investigating further I found that my very old turntable had a moving magnet cartridge that had cracked open producing some acoustic noise. The amazing thing is that the US-100 even digitized this noise too. It faithfully digitized all that it was provided. A new cartridge will fix that noise problem and the US-100 will be for many hours of work very soon.

Using the US-100 to connect my electric guitar to my Mac for recording and playback in GarageBand. Just plug in guitar, and pair of headphones and connect unit to USB port.
You will need to tell the Mac to use the US-100 as the source for Input and the destination for output.
I am really pleased with the US-100 and think it is really well built bit of hardward. Great value for the money.

I was looking for an inexpensive way to get a clean mic feed into my pc and this works perfectly. Works great with the laptop too without using the sound card input.
The only thing I feel it is missing is phantom power but I don't need it and I appreciate that it is powered by the usb which is probably why phantom power is not available.

I use the USB interface to feed line level stereo into a Realtek - Windows 7 equipped PC
I also use it to connect an external mic
I am not using the outputs
It works well at both tasks.
Very low noise level when properly set up.
No software needed; The included CD seems to contain only Audacity, a excellent program availiable free for other sources.

Needed a direct interface from a microphone to a computer to record voice work into a professional sound mixing program. It was extremely easy to setup. Plugged into the USB on the computer and plugged a microphone into the mixer interface and, Voila, that was it. Clarity of sound was of the highest quality. Simple, effective and completely does what I need it to do without any glitches or downside.

Comments about Tascam US-100 USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:
I bought the Tascam US-100 for the purpose of recording some of my personal projects. It does a pretty decent job for laying down a home made demo. I mostly just use the line inputs because the latency on the mics is pretty bad (idk if thats the audacity software or the interface), I prefer keeping it all digital rather than converting the analog sound, which makes the guitars I've recorded seem a little thin, but maybe thats just my inexperience in mixing. However, the drum machine I've run through it and the synth sound great. I don't really like the Audacity software because it doesn't work well with many plug-ins I've wanted to use. But for the simple/amateur recording I'm looking to do, I'm pleased with this product and would recommend it for anyone else in the same position.
