The TD-4SX from Roland is a complete electronic drum kit that's been designed to sound and react just like real drums & cymbals. It delivers the full Roland V-Drum experience in a more compact size and at a more affordable price. The drums on the TD-4SX are all patented multi-layer mesh V-Pads. The snare, floor tom, and cymbals feature dual triggers; the cymbals can be muted with your hands, and stomping on the hi-hat pedal creates realistic foot-splash sounds.
Each component is fully velocity sensitive. You can adjust the tension of the V-Pads with a standard drum key. This makes the V-Pads feel and react like real drums. You can have a super tight head on the snare, and a loose head on the floor tom. Banging on the TD-4SX feels like you're playing a real kit, not just hitting a computer pad with a stick.
The included MDS4 drum stand is very solid, yet occupies a relatively small footprint. Placing and positioning all of the drums and cymbals is very flexible, so you can set up your kit exactly how you like it.
The TD4 Percussion Sound Module features 25 different drum kits with 125 percussion instruments. There are sounds that suit a wide range of different styles of music. It features a built-in metronome, several practice functions, and an automated rhythm coach. You can adjust the parameters of the drums to your liking, plug in headphones for private practice, or hook up to a sound system. There are MIDI outputs that enable you to trigger external devices, or sequence on a computer. A mix input allows you to plug in a CD or MP3 player to jam along with your favorite music.
The KD8 kick drum pad is large enough to accommodate a double kick pedal. Because the KD8 gets beaten like a real bass drum, you can use the kick pedal of your choice (a kick drum pedal is not included with the TD-4SX).
If you're looking for the ideal electronic drum kit that can can be used in the studio, in the rehearsal space, on the stage, and in your home, the TD-4SX is an excellent choice. Whether you've been playing for years or you're just starting out, the built-in rhythm coach can help you become a better drummer.

Comments about Roland TD-4SX - Electronic Drum Set:
I bought this set so that I could learn to play the drums despite living in an apartment. I've had it for about two weeks and it is doing its job perfectly.
You're hitting plastic with sticks so it's not going to be silent but it's definitely inoffensive even if you hit it pretty hard. I'm in a first floor apartment and I haven't had any complaints. The kick might be a bit loud if you're on the second floor but it's not as loud as I expected it to be.
The learning functions are also great. It's got a couple of different modes built into the coach function and they're all great for practicing. You can also record yourself and then play it back with a meter that shows how far off beat you are. The metronome is nicely customizable. There's also an aux in jack so you can plug in your mp3 player. This is great if you're playing on headphones because your mp3s and your drums will both be routed to your headphones.
On the downside, the cymbals are pretty limited and some of the drum sounds aren't so hot. There's no USB out so you need a MIDI controller or a converter if you want to hook it up to your PC. I believe the TD-4 is Roland's low end module so most of that is to be expected.
I love my TD-4SX and I don't think I'd trade it for any other set in the same price range. If you want a set to learn on and you have a decent budget but you don't want to go all out on high end equipment, look no further.
