The PM 300 PictureMate Show Compact Printer by Epson is a study in contrasts. On one hand it's a handsome, well-built little clockwork of a mechanism that prints beautiful photos which are absolutely indistinguishable from quality 35mm film prints faster than you can say 'Jack Robinson'. On the other hand it's burdened with a user interface that is annoyingly unrefined, utilizing what would appear to be a first draft of firmware intended to appeal to lowest common denominator wally-world consumer bubbleheads.
That said, the interface functions well once you learn it. And, in fairness, I didn't buy this model to use as a digital frame, I bought it so that my old eyes could see the photos clearly on a giant screen. And my grand-daughter enjoys the penguin theme, penguins being her favorite animals, so I'll grin and bear the computer generated nonsense as the price for great photos at a moments notice.
Kitschy interface aside, the Picturemate Show scores serious bonus round points for its inclusion of a port for CF Cards. The fate of CF Cards seems to be sealed at this point, with a 'Betamax' redoux waiting in the wings. Apparently the surest way to fail in the marketplace is to offer a technically superior product. A number of other photo printers failed to even be considered by me because they chose to delete CF Card functionality.
The crop and image adjustment features free me from having to use a computer to accomplish these tasks and the sepia tone option produces an excellent example of this genre. If it had a more refined interface and skipped the kid stuff I'd gladly give it a '5 Star' rating, even with its relatively high price.

I am a proffesional Photographer and purchased this item for big gatherings. Such as parties and dances. I do alot of gatherings and people like having their pictures printed right there. So this little machine is great for that. It prints fast (about 40sec for any pic quiality or color). And the quality is AMAZING. skin tones almost dead on! Love the large viewing sceen. Makes it easier for clients to pick their picture.
Why I gave it a 3 is because it's confusing to use. It only can be commanded by remote. There are no buttons to do the commands on the machine. If you loose the remote or the battery dies on you than you can't do anything. so don't loose the remote. also for this price it should be touch screen. And for this price you have very basic extras. Like b/w or sepia. That's it. No keyboard to add writting to the pictures, no boarders for creativity. I think they should have added some more extras. It does take compact Flash and all other cards. The other printer I wanted was a third of the price, had touch screen and tons of extras...but did not accept compact flash. so I went for epson.
It does crop. And you have the choice of 2,4,or 8 on a 4x6 card. that is fun for gatherings. It also does slide shows....but I have not explored that setting.
The biggest thing that I really struggled with on getting this printer was that Epson is notorious for their printer heads drying. I don't use this printer everyday...or week. And with Epson you have to print atleast twice a week to avoid the head drying problem. So I decided that I will print something off of it twice a week, just so my investment is secure.
I love the quality, the speed and the large screen. And that was my requirement for why I bought it. I would not use it for scrabooking because it lacks ALOT in the creativity. And If you have kids the remote will get lost.

I purchased this for my Mom who wanted something easy to use to print her digital photos. She likes how easy is is to use,the bigger screen and the ability to edit photos on the printer. She doesn't like how you have to buy the paper when you buy the ink cartridge and thinks it could use a few more photo editing options. Overall, she is very happy with the purchase.

Comments about Epson PM300 PictureMate Show Compact Printer:
The only way to operate the printer is with a remote control. What happens if the remote control gets lost or broken??? The unit transforms from a picture printer to a paperweight. Why the printer even needs a remote control in the first place is a headscratcher... Are you going to sit on your couch and print pictures from across the room??? It would be a great product if the buttons to control the device were actually on the device.

I used this little printer to hand out family portraits for a Cub Scout Blue & Gold banquet. Everyone loved the commemorative photo of the evening. The quality of the photo was outstanding and the ease of use made it a hassle free night.

just for personal use, my wife loves to take pictures. It works good and is easy to use.only problem is that you need an adapter to use a scan disc chip, witch is in every camera I have ever used. oh, by the way the adapter is very difficult to find.

Printing digital photos. Easy, great quality photos. One annoying feature, you print one photo and instead of taking you back to your photo gallery it goes back to main menu.

I got this photo printer "kiosk" style for my mom and not only does she LOVE it, she had it set up and was viewing photos very quickly and easily! She doesn't really like to upload photos to the computer so this is perfect. She can keep photos on SD cards, label them, and then put them into this machine to look at photos on the digital frame. If she wants a fresh print, it is at the touch of a button - SO GREAT!!!

Bought this printer for my wife because she has a hard time seeing on the other LCD's. The 7" screen is perfect for her. It is also very easy for her to use which is great.

Very impressed with the picture quality, as good as any retail developing I've seen. My wife is not a "techie" so the fact it didn't require a computer and was easy for her to figure out was a huge plus.

Good for taking on location if 4x6 or smaller pictures will be needed. Prints good pictures fairly fast. But lacks battery rather than 115 Volt operation for on site use, which was available on the previous model.

Comments about Epson PM300 PictureMate Show Compact Printer:
Prints great pictures. Cost per print (materials cost) is good for doing it yourself. Purchase a replacement plan to keep cost of printer from making the overall cost per print high if printer fails in a short time.
We print from a number of shared cameras with shared memory cards. Unlike earlier models it is impossible in standalone use to select a group of pictures to print unless you want all, or all from a particular date. We have to print from a computer hooked up to the printer and this slows down the speed of printing, and makes no use of the printer's big screen or memory.
