Having a UV filter over any lens is always a good idea. I've got one on all of my glass and Hoya manufactures some of the best. This one is no exception.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I use this filter for its intended purpose for UV light filtration, and for added protection for the expensive optic behind it. Hoya filters are of known quality, while not quite OEM, it's quite close but without OEM's higher price tag. It's good value for the money.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
Short story.
Over the last year or so, I noticed on certain images that there was a smudge or dirt in the pic. After cleaning the sensor, lens and filter, everything seemed ok until my last trip where the problem had returned. The cause? I'd destroyed my UV filter, probably at Yellowstone with a bit of spray from the geysers (dilute sulfuric acid, I believe). On closer examination, the lens and camera came thru unscathed but the filter was ruined. While I like filters for polarization, UV filtering or special effects, a key need is to protect the lens. My prior Hoya did so in spades.
This is my standard filter for cloudy outdoors and indoor shooting. What can I say? The glass is clear, undistorted, and protects the camera lens at a modest price. For those reasons, I gave it 5 stars. There may be better filters for more money but this looks like good value at this price point.
