Engineered for the serious professional, the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Printer Graphic Arts Edition incorporates a compact, 17-inch wide printer design, along with an amazing variety of technological innovations. Produce accurate, color-stable prints throughout the production process...from initial comps to client presentations to pre-press proofs. The printer comes with standard Epson ESC/P2 drivers, and PANTONE-licensed Postscript Language Level 3-compatible RIP by ColorBurst. ColorBurst allows users to send layouts to a Job List to print, reorder jobs and layouts, put layouts on hold, open layouts to edit, and build new layouts while printing.
The Pro 3880 is engineered with the all-new AccuPhoto HD2 technology, created from a collaboration between Epson and the Rochester Institute of Technology's Munsell Color Science Laboratory. It combines a complex mathematical architecture and advanced screening technology to provide outstanding image quality, ensuring precision placement of each individual ink droplet, resulting in dynamic looking photos with smoother color transitions, and better highlight - shadow detail.
With a maximum resolution of 2880 x 1440dpi, and an advanced MicroPiezo AMC™ print head, the Stylus Pro 3880 produces gallery-quality color and black-and-white output up to 17 x 22".
The Epson Stylus Pro 3880 includes Epson UltraChrome® with Vivid Magenta Ink Technology, known worldwide for professional printing applications. The printer's 9-ink set ink delivers an amazing color gamut with breathtaking blues and violets. Even more remarkable, the latest high performance, one-inch wide print head now incorporates an Auto-sharing Black Ink technology, allowing both Photo and Matte Black ink to be installed simultaneously.
Capable of handling virtually any type of cut-sheet media up to 17" wide, the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 incorporates a high-capacity paper feeder that accommodates sizes ranging from 4 x 6" up to 17 x 22". The printer also features four different ways to load media, including a front-loading, straight-through path capable of handling media up to 1.5 mm thick and a second, top-loading, single-sheet feeder optimized for fine art paper.

I purchased the printer because of several reasons- some good and a few very annoying. I had been using the Epson 2200 for several years and had been very satisfied with it although I wanted the capability of a larger print. When I ungraded to Snow Leopard, I could no longer generate a decent color balanced print with the 2200. Epson support provided no help and it became apparent after several calls that they did not intend to support this older printer on the new Mac OS.None of the suggested drivers worked! I bought the 3880 with the ColorBurst RIP bundled software and after a frustrating week of attempting to resolve a printer sharing problem, the ColorBurst support team came to the rescue with a fix. Epson once again from a support standpoint offered no solutions blaming it all on the Mac OS stating "no one else had such a problem". Not the case from all of the Forum chatter about the problem!
The printer itself was easy to set up, takes up remarkably little space for the print size and the colors are superb. The black and white printing capability is the most balanced and rich I have encountered short of film and a darkroom.I wish the printer could be used with roll paper for prints longer than 22 inches but since my output needs rarely exceed that I can live with the limitation. The best aspect of the 3880 is the room for both the "matte black" and "photo black" cartridges which makes the switch from luster paper to enhanced matte paper effortless. If I could make one single suggestion from the entire experience it would be that although Epson printers are excellent products (I own 4 of them) their support team members are often unwilling to work with you to resolve a problem, at times rude and lastly lack knowledge. They are however very good at blaming everyone else when you present them with a problem.

I am a professional graphic designer, and it was time to replace my old laser printer. The samples from the Epson 3880 were outstanding, and the brochure promised contract proof level color accuracy. I am very happy with the color proofs I am getting.
I am not happy that I can only print on Epson media. Using the high-quality laser stock I already have produces mediocre to horrible results. So I bought several hundred dollars worth of Epson paper. Problem is, the paper is all one-sided. I cannot print double-sided mock-ups.
I also discovered that the ColorBusrt RIP (that I paid extra for) creates some bizarre color shifting. Exporting to PDF and printing directly to the printer (bypassing the RIP) is giving me better color fidelity.

Great printer......use it mostly for separations to film for screen printing. I had to purchase Accurip software for an additional $495 because the Colorburst RIP that comes with the Graphic Arts addition does not print halftones. It thought it would being postscript level 3 software, but no! Having both drivers is great however. I just finished printing a run of 17 by 22 inch posters on 10 mil photo premium glossy paper through the Colorburst RIP. They printed quite fast and look amazing. I'll soon be outputting 17 by 22 inch film through the Accurip driver for imaging screens for over size T shirt prints. This printer has given me the ability to produce large format separations in house as well as print large format full color posters on a wide variety of readily available media.

Used for printing artwork. Great prints from 4x6 to 17x22. High capacity ink cartridges (9). Printer, Paper and Ink are expensive but what else is news?

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Inkjet Printer Graphic Arts Edition:
After owning epson 1140, 1200, R800, 1280, 2200 and 4000, this is a pleasure to use. No clogging so far, better ink usage and great B&W prints. Only complaint is the bundled Colorburst RIP. For [$], it is seriously crippled. Linearization requires UV corrected eye-one. Even if I am wiling to use another profile maker such as argyll, I can't use the RIP. Really really crippled. I am ok with it only supporting 3800 because it is bundled, but come-on, at least let me use it with third party papers, and create my own profiles and linearization using third party tools, and non-UV eye-one? Buy the non-GA version, save [$] and you will be much happier. Again, great printer.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Inkjet Printer Graphic Arts Edition:
At first I was a bit overwhelmed by the size of the printer and what I was afraid would be a complicated setup process, but it turned out to be completely pain-free. It integrated into my overall system seamlessly, was very straight-forward to set up and get working, and gave me perfect renditions of color with the first print. I am a fine art nature and wildlife photographer, so the printer is ideal for my realistic but vibrant color demands. My only caution is this: The 3880 is a professional printer, so take the time to do everything that a professional-grade printer requires before using it: buy a good monitor and printer calibration tool, make sure you use the correct printer profiles, and take the time to understand the nuances of high-grade printing. you will NOT be disappointed.

I'm a serious recreational photographer who has limited sales. I use the printer to produce enlargements. The printer was easy to set up and prints beautiful color and details. Colorburst dd not come with directions and is NOT easy to set up. My intial printing with Colorbust have been much worse than just using the Espson software without enhancement. The printer gets 5 stars and Colorbust zero. I wish I did not buy Colorbust!

Digging the printer, is a bit bigger then I had expected.. but love being able to print massive sheets. amazing for photo's and matte paper. I run a small design firm and love the look on clients faces when I can show them a mock-up of their print project. It has already paid itself off

The printer is excellent. The prints are better than most professional photo companies.
I would recommend getting the Imageprint software from Colorbyte to go along with it. This product produces incredible results and all of the profiles match up in Photoshop and InDesign perfectly.
It is a great purchase.
