The 160GB iPod classic (Silver) from Apple is the stalwart anchor of the iPod line. Offering the most storage of any iPod, the hard drive-based classic puts up to 40,000 songs, 200 hours of video, or 25,000 photos into your pocket. The classic features a bright 2.5" LCD screen, which displays album artwork and song information when playing music. You'll be able to navigate through music using a standard playlist menu, or through the gorgeous Cover Flow system, which displays a virtual wall of your digital album covers on the iPod's color screen.
Navigation is achieved using the venerable Click Wheel interface, which allows you to scroll through music and playlists by rotating your finger across its smooth surface. Simply click one of the 5 controls -- the unlabeled center button, Play/Pause in the 6 o'clock position, Previous at 9 o'clock, Next at 3 o'clock, and Menu at 12 o'clock -- to work your way through the intuitive menu system. To turn the device off, simply hold play for a few seconds. A physical "Hold" switch is located on the top of the device, allowing you to lock the controls to prevent an accidental song change or volume adjustment.
The iPod works with Apple's iTunes software, included with every Mac and available as a free download for Windows, to manage your music library. In addition to syncing your music library between your computer and portable device, iTunes syncs your calendars, contacts, notes, and games.
Like most current iPods, the classic connects to a computer and other peripheral devices using the Dock connector. This opens it up for use with a world of peripherals, including speaker docks, Bluetooth headphone adapters, and more. It includes a Dock to USB cable, allowing you to sync and charge the device with your Mac or PC.
The integrated battery can provide up to 36 hours of audio playback, or 6 hours of video playback, on a single charge. You'll be able to charge the device to 80% capacity in as little as 2 hours, and to full capacity in only 4 hours.
The iPod classic isn't just a media player. If you delve into its "Extras" menu, you will find that it sports the aforementioned calendar, contact list, notes, and games. It ships free with 3 games -- Vortex, iQuiz, and Klondike solitaire -- with more games available for purchase in iTunes. You can also set the iPod's time zone and create custom alarms for yourself. A sleep timer is available, allowing you to automatically turn the iPod off after a certain amount of time has passed -- as little as 15 minutes or as much as 2 hours. You'll also be able to access a stopwatch function, perfect for timing steeping time for the perfect cup of tea, and a screen lock function to prevent unauthorized access.
The Settings menu allows you to control all aspects of your iPod's functionality. You'll be able to use it to control shuffle and repeat functions, customize what items appear on menus, and adjust playback speed of audio books, perfect for those times when you only have a few hours of time to finish listening to the audio version of Anna Karenina.
The Settings menu also allows you to adjust the playback EQ, set the date and time, and control whether or not the iPod makes an audible 'click' while scrolling. You can also adjust music sorting order, LCD brightness, and set a volume limit, ensuring that you don't accidentally blow out your eardrums by setting the volume too high.

I needed a portable player that could handle my uncompressed music collection. The iPod Classic was the best fit.
After organizing my music with i-tunes it synced without a hitch. I can go close to three days on a single charge since I listen to music. I select from my play list and go from there. The video part of the iPod has very good image quality if you don't mind the 2 inch screen.
I highly recommend first you read the manual to learn what it can do, you may need to go to Apple's website to download the manual and also recommend getting earphones with volume control. If you use the volume limiter, the sounds may be a little soft.
It is easy to navigate through the menu to make selections. The best feature I use is the sleep timer, I can go to sleep to some relaxing music and it will shut off at a preset time.
My downside of it are some of the extras like a stopwatch, games and voice recorder which I don't use or need. You do not get the full 160GB as advertised, but rather 148GB. There are only preset EQ settings and not a custom setting option so you will have to listen to the settings to find what will work best.
The reason for not giving it 5 stars because of price for such a simple and straight forward device as the iPod Classic and not getting 160GB.
Yet it is a fantastic choice if you want a player for music on the go.

I am not fully happy with this product, I am tempted to return if for a full refund because I am unhappy with the features it has. I had the iPod 5th generation in which broke on me for no reason and quit working on me. So I purchased this iPod classic because I did not want the other nano they have on the market. THe radio features and shuffle features were great but on the classic ipod are very poor. The only good thing about this product that is that you can store a lot of music on here but for using it it really is NOT my favorite music option to really use anymore.

Comments about Apple 160GB iPod classic (Silver, Current Model):
My old ipod is a few years old and was starting to freeze up and definitely didn't have enough capacity. Besides five times the storage, I immediately noticed how much more battery life the new one has. It's not too different otherwise, just the same classic ipod. I like the new silver look, but I worry about scratching up the surface compared to the hard clear coating on the old white one. But B&H got it to me within two days of ordering - really fast and without and problems!

The name says it all. This is my 3rd iPod. I have one permanently in my car, and this one I use for travel and so.
I will never buy any other digital music player. As they say "Once you go mac, you don't go back!!"

I transferred 600 classical CDs to iTunes, and from there to this 160GB iPod classic. Instead of shelves and shelves of CDs, I know have all my music on an object I can hold in my hand. I think that's awesome.

I bought one of these to replace my old 4th gen ipod and I couldn't be happier. The storage is large enough to hold all of my music twice over, and the color display is beautiful. I love being able to see the album artwork finally! So far there is nothing wrong with this product. It's better in every way to my old one.

I am older than most that buy this type of product. But being a dance teacher, I needed a new way to have music. The unit is great and very easy to operate. I do wish I had some way to hook it to my clothing while choreographing dance routines.

This Ipod replaces a 6 year old 40 GB B/W that finally died. We use this as a "jukebox" to play all of our music through our home stereo, car and portable radios.

I'm so happy that my huge music library can fit into the ipod classic! never worry about deleting songs:) There's a minor problem with the click wheel, sometimes it doesn't respond or it's a little bit slow. Other than that it's perfect. I'm using it all the time!

I purchases this iPod to replace an old 60 gb one that I had filled up. What is there not to love about an ipod classic. I'm able to carry my whole music and music video collectoon in one device. The menu could not be any simpler to use. The responce is faster that any other mp3 player on the market.
