The Acratech Universal 'L' Bracket is a practical alternative to dedicated 'L' brackets. Its design allows the weight of the camera to stay centered over the tripod during vertical or portrait shots and it attaches to your camera with an "Arca" type clamp so it is quickly removed for hand held shots.

Comments about Acratech Universal "L" Bracket:
I have used many "Arca" type "L" brackets, both custom and universal, and this one is the best. Unlike most, it allows the camera to have the open end in either side so as not to interfere with cable access or articulated viewing screens. Well made and light weight, the only "fault" I can find is it's a little pricy. But then, the "best" usually is.

Comments about Acratech Universal "L" Bracket:
Although these L-brackets are very helpful in speeding the rotation of your camera on platforms that don't themselves rotate 90 degrees (true for many tripod heads, ball heads, and special "sleds" like those on beauty dish strobes, etc., where the lens itself does not have a ring collar, they are an excessively overpriced accessory. This one is a good option in that it's less expensive yet still sturdily built. If you have used L brackets before then you'll find the one-page, single-sided exploded view of the bracket with a photo showing it attached to a camera sufficient. But it's minimal, and shows a reinforcing rib that I finally figured was for a different model than the one I bought. For the difference, I would look at the extended model, as the information sheet made me regret I bought the one I did. Seems like it would have made more sense to have put this in the pre-sales information on the web site instead of inside the product. In the end, it seems as if it will serve its purpose.

Comments about Acratech Universal "L" Bracket:
This tool allows you to switch quickly from landscape to portrate when connected to a ballhead clamp. It's very light, well handcrafted, easy to use. Seems a little bit complex to set up (plate under the camera, clamp on the bracket, then tighten into the clamp...)but after the first time everything is ok. Some doubt about the Acratech plate for Canon 5Dii: seems not to fit perfectly the camera (I mean parallelism of axies). It's not a real problem as you have great degrees of adjustement with your ballhead.

Comments about Acratech Universal "L" Bracket:
I am trying to use the L bracket with a Really Right Stuff lever quick release plate. One leg works just fine but there is unacceptable slippage on the other. I have ordered a Acratech ball head with quick release plate hoping this will work. Under any circumstance, the width of the plate differs on each leg.
I could recommend if it was machined better.

Comments about Acratech Universal "L" Bracket:
Useful if you switch or upgrade camera bodies a lot - eliminates having to have custom L Brackets for each separate camera body. Larger than other L Brackets when attached to the camera, but for the extra flexibility, its worth it. Requires compatible standard quick release plate for the specific camera.
