The MXO2 LE with MAX (Desktop) from Matrox is a device designed to provide all the features of an I/O card in a sturdy, portable breakout box. It features both professional audio and video connectivity. The model is designed for use with PCs and Intel-based Mac Pro and Apple Xserve desktop systems.
This model features Matrox MAX, a technology that implements faster than real-time H.264 encoding for resolutions ranging from iPod to HD. It uses a dedicated hardware processor to accelerate the creation of H.264 files for Blu-ray, the web, and mobile devices. By using specialized hardware acceleration, jobs are finished more quickly and system resources are freed up for other tasks. This technology allows direct export to higher-quality H.264 Blu-ray compliant files from Compressor.
Along with broadcast-quality audio & video input and output, the MXO2 LE provides calibration controls that include blue-only. You also benefit from a wide variety of HD and SD workflows with Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro thanks to Matrox MXO2 LE's 10-bit hardware up/down/cross scaling engine and support for a wide variety of file-based formats and industry-standard codecs.
Note! A different host bus adapter is required for use with a laptop unit and may be purchased separately or as a part of a different MXO2 laptop solution.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 support for Mac OSX to be available in early November 2010.

Have used the AVID Mojo DX since It's inception. Workks great if all you use is AVID. Apples to apples the MXO does everything the Mojo DX does at one quarter the price. Not only with AVID but also all Adobe products. Plus, with the HDMI Monitor Calibration Tool and it's a homerun.

Comments about Matrox MXO2 LE with MAX (Desktop):
Honestly, this is a great interface. I would buy it again (and again..) and recommend it heartily.
The MAX really does a good job (assuming you use an encoding tool which can leverage it), the video (and audio) quality is excellent and the scaling is great.
With that said there are a few things to realize:
1. You can't use the MAX engine and the hardware I/O at the same time.
2. If you go to use the built-in scaling engine (say, to take a 1080i input and record it on a 720p timeline) the device doesn't account for the video delay in the audio, leaving the two roughly 300ms out of wack.
3. The onboard MAX engine is ever-so-slightly slower than having the CompressHD card sitting right on the PCIe bus.
All-in-all though, a great product with a ton of flexibility at a great price. Buy it.

This unit is Awesome! I purchased it to compliment my new 12 core MacPro. I have been waiting to buy one for some time now, and finally have the power to monitor HDV along with the power of faster than realtime H.264 encodes!!! Not sure what I will do with all my extra time?!?!?! Obviously there are many other Pro features as well.

Comments about Matrox MXO2 LE with MAX (Desktop):
Finally after many years of frustration - endless 'progress' bars - the Max feature of this Matrox O2 makes H264 compression within Apple's Compressor work. What used to take hours and give arguably poorer output than Mpeg StreamClip, can now be acheived in real time. For me this a breakthrough and an order of magnitude improvment. And that is just the 'add-on' feature of this remarkable box.
The fact that the O2 also gives i/o for every deck and camera that I have used in the past five years plus HDMI Output that can be calibrated is a hge value. I can honestly say that this product is breakthrough for HD & SD workflow.
